    Chance!

Eddie Nketiah runs in from the left, beating a couple of men before setting up Martin Odegaard for a shot the Dane lifts over the bar.

    Mikel Arteta has seen enough...

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

It is like trying to thread the eye of a needle at times for Arsenal, who are trying to get the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard into dangerous areas. If they're slightly off, the Everton players are on to them in a flash.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Almost a disaster at the back for Everton as an attempted clearance strikes Eddie Nketiah and sends the ball heading back towards the home goal.

Nketiah scurries after it, but it denied a chance to get in on goal by a sliding tackle from James Tarkowski.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal can't find a way through.

They take a short corner and set up a shooting chance from the edge of the box. This is blocked, as is a follow-up effort from Eddie Nketiah.

    Coolest man in the room.

An Everton cross to the back post is met by Oleksandr Zinchenko, who chests the ball back to Aaron Ramsdale.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

A sign of the work and commitment Everton are putting in to this...

Granit Xhaka is set up for a shot on the edge of the box but he is met by three diving home players to block.

  8. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Poor work from the officials. Dwight McNeil puts the ball behind under pressure from Ben White but they give Everton a goal kick.

  9. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

The two Arsenal wide players have had barely any joy this afternoon. Everton are doubling up on both to good effect, with Dwight McNeil and Alex Iwobi performing a great job in defence.

    Great save!

Idrissa Gueye hits a shot from the edge of the box and it takes a big deflection. Aaron Ramsdale is initially wrong-footed but readjusts to dive the right way and palm the ball away. Brilliant.

I predict Dyche will do a fantastic job getting Everton organised and keeping them up then will lose his job next year with the fans clamouring for 'expansive football'.

A very encouraging first 45 minutes for Everton under Sean Dyche. Can they complete the job?

Arsenal must surely improve? They need to be quicker and smarter on the ball. The Gunners have found ways to win this season. Can they do so again here?

Rob: Loving all this talk about Sean Dyche turning Everton round. Looking forward to more "Same old Everton" when they go 1-0 behind!!

James: Why are people already acting like one half of 0-0 football is enough to prove that Dyche is great and Lampard was bad? If I remember right Lampard had plenty of solid performances at the beginning of his tenure. Football fans have fickle memories.

Peter: Lots of love for Sean Dyche, with merit given that performance. But have they scored any goals yet?

  15. A midfield audition?published at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    Wolves v Liverpool (15:00 GMT)

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Molineux

While Chelsea brought in several players during the January transfer window to try and improve their chances of a top-four finish, just one came through the door at Liverpool - Cody Gakpo.

It is another forward for a team that is perhaps crying out for a freshening up in midfield, a position they've only signed one player in in the last four years.

Liverpool could come up against a midfielder today who has been strongly linked with a summer move to the Reds - Matheus Nunes.

Will he put in a performance to highlight just what Liverpool need?

  16. 'Potter has a good problem with Chelsea's new singings'published at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Fulham

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo on The Friday Football Social speaking about Chelsea's big money spending: "Nothing surprises me. Really it is a lot of money but I don't know what Chelsea needs but I remember my time when we were training and the new owner Roman Abramovich came in and the change was too big at the time.

"The new owners want to win a lot of trophies and they understand that the short way is to buy a lot of players.. I think Graham Potter has a good problem in terms of choosing the first eleven. The problem is to leave someone in the stands or on the bench. For a coach or a manager it's a good problem.

"I don't know the way that Graham Potter want to play but he needs time because a lot of players have come in and first of all you need to build a group. All of the start are coming and they all want to play in the first eleven but there is not space for all of them.

"You need time but Chelsea need results because it is a big club. For the Chelsea fans, I want to suggest for them to have patience. You have the materials but they need to build a group. For that, you need to time."

CM: Just Arsenal's luck to play Everton now. New manager bounce, Dyche factor turned on, away from home... not enjoying this one. Hope Arsenal aren't starting to get complacent or running out of steam! Come on boys, keep going!!

Anon: Arsenal clearly forgotten they're playing a Dyche team. Pedestrian and ponderous in possession plays into Everton's hands. Need some bravery!

Naim: We’re so lucky to be going into half time level. The performance has been awful. The only player who has been solid is Gabriel. Wake up Arsenal.

  18. 'Fernandez will grow at Chelsea'published at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Fulham

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo was on The Friday Football Social speaking about what to expect from new Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez: "First of all, I hope everything will be well for him. I knew Enzo at the beginning of his career because he played in River Plate and played in the reserves team and I spent my time in the River Plate Academy.

"A lot of things have happened for him in a short time. Chelsea is a really big club, his past was very hard and then very quickly everything happened but it is not normal to find a player come in the first team straight away.

"After joining River Plate, it was normal to wear this big shirt. After joining Benfica in Europe, he adapted very well. After coming to the national team in the first eleven at the World Cup, it was so natural for him and I hope he will grow at Chelsea but really we need to help him.

"He is 22 years old and maybe he will adapt quickly, I hope so but even if he never touches the ball in the next six months, don't worry, help him. He could adapt quickly but that is not normal, maybe it has become normal but he needs to adapt to the new life and a great big club. There is such high internal competition so it will not be easy."

Already we are seeing this Everton side show more desire and more character. Dyche has clearly said to the players "do it for the badge, do it for the fans, go and make a name for yourselves". Every match is a cup final from here on out.

Just what was required, a solid half from Everton where they actually created the better chances.

The fans protested before the game but are fully backing the boys on the pitch as they trot off with chants of "We love you Everton, we do" ringing round Goodison.
