    Spurs 1-0 Man City

Pep Guardiola has only lost five times at two away grounds - the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Anfield.

Not bad considering Spurs' stadium hasn't even been open for three years.

  3. 'I think Kane needs to win medals'published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    Spurs 1-0 Man City

Former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega believes the time is right for Harry Kane to leave Spurs.

He told Sportsworld on BBC World Service: “He can actually walk away from Spurs now without any question and go to a potentially better platform where they can actually win medals.

"The player is a legend and he can do that anywhere else, but I think now he needs to win medals and then he’ll be a complete player by the end of his career.

"If I was (Spurs charman) Daniel Levy I think it’s the best time now to sell him and really cash in and rebuild. Harry Kane is today, but we need to look for a future Harry Kane.”

  4. 'City are lesser team with Haaland in'published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher: "Manchester City now, not because of Erling Haaland, we can see they’re a different team but, they’ve scored exactly the same amount of goals.

"He’s scored 25 Premier League goals, but Manchester City as a team have still scored the same amount of goals, but they’ve conceded more goals. It’s far easier to counter-attack them as well, so they’re a different team and a lesser team with Erling Haaland in the team, but it’s not his fault.

"We’re not seeing the full package of what this player can do because of the team he has gone to."

  5. 'He’s got this tremendous gift'published at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness on Harry Kane breaking Spurs' record: "I think stats will dictate how his legacy is looked at. He’s already up there with other guys. For me Alan Shearer was the best English striker and, personally because I’ve worked with him, I still think that if Harry passes it [his Premier League record].

"Harry said about five years ago he saw himself more as a Glenn Hoddle-type player and I thought that’s strange given he’s an out-and-out goalscorer.

"You can see what he’s thinking and you can see why he said it, because he’s got this tremendous gift – he sees a picture and he’s a lovely striker of the ball, he delivers what he sees.

"He’s just a really great footballer."

  7. 'It is not easy play them'published at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Match of the Day: "We started really well, they didn't cross halfway, or just once and we concede a goal, like happened two weeks ago. A well organised team, physical, we can't expect to create a lot of chances. When we lose balls in transitions it is more difficult.

"It was good, we created chances and it was difficult. Most of the time to come here, we are not able to win the game - it is not easy to play them and these type of games we have to try and do the situation. The intention is there."

On his team getting fouled lots: "How many years have I been doing this [interviews]? How many times has the referee been here? "

An opportunity missed? "Those are big adjectives. It is football, they [Arsenal] drop and there was a good opportunity but we knew how difficult it was in this stadium."

On Harry Kane: "Big congratulations, he deserves it, he is an exceptional player - on behalf of Manchester City I congratulate him."

That first Harry Kane goal back in 2011 was a 4-0 win at Shamrock Rovers in a game that saw Spurs knocked out of the Europa League anyway.

Our match report of the time said: "Both sides traded half-chances as the game became stretched in the final 10 minutes, most notably when Iago Falque hit the post from long range, before 18-year-old striker Kane spun his marker in the final minute of the match to score his first goal for the north London club."

  9. 'The perfect night'published at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's all-time top scorer Harry Kane, speaking to BBC MOTD: "My first ever Spurs goal was against Shamrock Rovers a long, long time ago, away from home. Special memories to score the first one and now to be here on 267.

“When you look at the names who have been here, to overtake Jimmy Greaves – one of the greatest to play the game – I'm extremely grateful.

"The years go by so quick so I try to take it all in. Not sure I’ve done that yet but my friends and family were here so it was a special time to do it."

On breaking the record in a win: "We were playing one of the best teams in the league, a really important game. As a striker you always dream about scoring winners so it was just the perfect night. But my focus will be on Leicester before you know it."

On reaching 200 Premier League goals: "I’m feeling good. I saw Alan [Shearer, record Premier League scorer] earlier in the week. I’m sure he’ll be watching but not sure if he’ll be happy or not! I’ve got plenty of goals to come, I’m feeling good.

"Alan has set the record to beat. I’ll see if I can beat it.”

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham assistant manager Cristian Stellini, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Absolutely a great performance for all the team and all the staff. We knew it was a tough week without Antonio. Everyone forced themselves to another level. We are happy for them, for the club, for Harry and for Antonio as well.

"Antonio is far from us and he is not very well at the moment. He had to stay away from the game and stay calm but I’ve just spoken to him and he is very happy."

On Harry Kane: "An incredible achievement. He is 30, he has time to do many things. He has the skills to score again, again and again. When you look at him you can feel football in every moment in his life."

On Spurs' record v Man City: "Extraordinary [to beat City five times at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium]. They are a big beast. When you beat Man City you have to cover all the space, we defended very well and did that."

On Emerson Royal: "We have seen him play great games. Against City last season it was similar. Today he was a good player and he used to be better when you are winning. He has to improve in other situations but today he was perfect."

On communication with Antonio Conte: "I couldn’t speak with him but we had some messages from him in the game, they arrived a bit later but we had to take responsibility."

On being unbeaten as Conte's stand-in: “My record is safe today and we have to continue. But I want Antonio back.”

  12. 'We are not thinking about being champions'published at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "We started really well, as usually happens against Tottenham home and away, but after we made a mistake they punished us - 1-0 down it is different, we had chances, and of course when we lose balls in transition with Kulusevski and Son, it is not easy. We dropped three points."

Did your players follow the plan? "Most of the time, yeah, But it is not easy when 10 players defend, and sit back a little bit more than in the Etihad two weeks ago. We played good, started well and missed maybe the last pass, to shoot."

On bringing on Kevin de Bruyne: "I wanted him for the last pass, to find between the lines, he can make one of these actions and that was the reason."

On City's poor record at Spurs: "Sooner or later it is going to change, but it is strange we haven't scored one goal, we have missed penalties in the past. To find an explanation is not easy.

"We found the positions, made good balls to the channels, but missed the last action up front.

"We are not in the position to think about being champions, just the next game, Aston Villa, we will prepare well and play our game as best as possible.

"Tottenham has a fantastic team and squad and they punish you. They have a lot of quality up front and don't need much with transitions, set pieces, give a lot of credit to them."

  14. 'Harry Kane has football in his DNA'published at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham assistant manager Cristian Stellini, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a tough week and we have to give a great compliment to all the players and the staff. It was a tough week because we lost Antonio [Conte] this week, hopefully he'll be back next week. He'll be back happy now.

"I spoke to him on the phone just now and he said congratulations to the team and especially Harry.

"The key was the capacity to suffer when City has the ball. We know when we play against this team we have to suffer because they have the ball a lot but we moved well in the defensive situation and defended the goal in a brilliant way.

"We knew very well that in that game (at City) we lost our key - our capacity to suffer. We lost that last time, we spoke about that situation and that we had to be angry, motivated.

"To reach our target, we have to suffer more, to fight. When you are winning against City, they can play with great pace. You have to be strong and we controlled the space very well."

On Harry Kane's landmark goal: "Harry Kane, in his DNA, he has football. He understands football in every moment. He can play in any position. He is a GOAT in this league, in this sport. He is a great example."

On being in charge for the game: "I enjoyed it. Today my responsibility, the staff and my responsibility was very high. It's not easy without the gaffer all week but we did very well."

Erling Haaland failed to have a single attempt on goal in a game for Manchester City for the first time.

This was the second occasion he failed to have a touch in the opposition box as a City player (also vs Borussia Dortmund in October).

Could this season be the end of Klopp and Pep? Both of them seem to have lost their touch.

Cristian Stellini has taken charge of Spurs twice this season - once for an Antonio Conte touchline ban and today because Conte has had surgery.

    And he's won both.

Huge games too - the win in Marseille which got them into the Champions League knockout stages, and now beating the English champions.

It just didn't quite happen for City. Hugo Lloris hadn't been overly extended in the game. Erling Haaland looks dejected and its hard to blame him, he hasn't had a chance to change the game today.

The most frustrating thing is that the goal was completely avoidable.

  19. 'Absolutely sensational'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    FT: Spurs 1-0 Man City

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards on Harry Kane breaking the Spurs record: "I have a lot of admiration for him, he’s a top striker. And, I think that’s why he’s always been linked away from Spurs when they’ve not been winning things.

"Fair play to him staying at Spurs, overtaking that record, absolutely sensational. Even when they’re not playing well he still finds a way, top top notch."

Chris: Another Pep overthinking disaster class leaving De Bruyne out.

Rich: Thanks Pep for tinkering again and doing your mate Arteta a favour!

Mark: Not sure why Man City sold Sterling, Jesus, Zinchenko and Cancelo. It's weakened their squad so much. Can't see them winning anything this season.
