Spurs v Man City (16:30 GMT)

Spurs are in danger of losing three consecutive top-flight home games for the first time since September 2008.

They could also equal a club record by going three consecutive home league fixtures without scoring, a sequence they last recorded in December 2008.

Manchester City have yet to score or pick up a point at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They have lost all four of their league and cup games without scoring since Spurs 'moved'.

City have suffered 27 Premier League defeats against Spurs, their joint-highest figure against a particular opponent.

  3. 'We take the points and we move on'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Leeds

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, speaking to Sky Sports: "I was disappointed with our football today. I thought we could play better than that. And, first half was not a good version of ourselves, second half defensively I thought we were excellent.

"Obviously the outcome is the most important thing and to win, but my job is to look a bit deeper than that and look at how we get better, because it’s probably the first time we’ve not played well and got something. We’ve played a lot better and lost games this year so in a way maybe the lads deserved that today.

"But I’ve got to look a bit deeper into the performance and got to do a little bit better. But at the same time we’re on a good run and it takes all sorts to be on a good run.

"We take the points and we move on."

On goalscorer Brennan Johnson: "Fantastic player, we know he’s got qualities and is a great finisher. The guys didn’t get loads of service at the top end of the pitch but, sometimes you just need one moment, so obviously him and Keylor in our goal in the first half were brilliant with the save so some big individual moments for sure."

On beating a relegation rival: "We’re not looking at it like that, we’re just looking at ourselves and I think it’s still a little but early to be worried about others, that time will come of course. We’re just thinking about ourselves, the next game, picking up points, we’re thinking about how we get better.

"We’re building and identity, we’re building a team, we’ve been doing that from the summer so step-by-step."

That City line-up is really strange. Can't work out what formation they are going to play. If I was a Spurs fan I'd be encouraged with that.

Is Conte's antagonism because he is desperate to push the club forward? That's a generous take on it. Or is it just he's a guy who is frustrated and has been at clubs that he perceives to be bigger and with greater chances of success?

He realises he is not going to win the league at Spurs because of the way the Premier League is and the balance of finances and he will check out in the summer.

A lot of us are struggling to read which one of those it is. If you were asking me what my instinct is at the moment, I would be surprised if Conte is still at the club in the summer.

I just don't get the impression that he he seems to have found a connection with his players, or the fan base, or the board.

He may have fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola before joining Bayern Munich on loan but it is still strange to think Joao Cancelo isn't with City anymore.

He had played every Premier League game for City since 19 February until being left out on 31 December.

  8. Porro's first City game?published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

Spurs v Man City (16:30 GMT)

Pedro Porro was a Manchester City player from August 2019 until last May - and today he could play in his first City game... for Spurs.

The Spain right-back spent all three seasons out on loan and Sporting Lisbon activated a buyout clause to sign him last summer.

He joined Spurs on deadline day on loan, with an obligation to buy for 45m euros (£40m).

City will get £10m of that because of the sell-on clause they negotiated.

Assistant boss Cristian Stellini said: “He is young but has great experience. He played in a similar system to how we play and he is available. We were impressed by his performance against us and he is a great technical player."

    He's on the bench.

  9. Sutton's predictionpublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

Spurs v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    SuttonImage source, .

I know Joao Cancelo has not been at his best this season but I still think his departure on loan to Bayern Munich is a massive loss to Manchester City.

Cancelo has been integral to City's success in the past couple of seasons but something has clearly gone on that meant Pep Guardiola was willing to let him leave and they have not replaced him either.

It's a huge call, especially with City playing catch-up to Arsenal in the title race, but it would be typical of what we have seen from them under Pep if they responded with a win here.

Spurs might still think it is a good time to play them, and it was a boost for them that Son Heung-min got back among the goals against Preston in the FA Cup last weekend.

But with boss Antonio Conte likely to be absent after surgery, I am going with another City victory to go with their comeback to beat Tottenham at Etihad Stadium last month.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-3

  10. 'Has Haaland actually made Man City a better team?'published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

Tottenham v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    Adam Crafton
Reporter for The Athletic, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live

As stupid as it sounds, Man City didn't sign Haaland because they needed goals. Their goal record of the last few years, in two of the last three seasons, 99 and 102 in the Premier League alone so Man City have not had a problem scoring goals.

What they have had is forward players, whether it was Gabriel Jesus or Foden playing as a false nine or Sterling that would contribute to that system, which is so important to Guardiola. I think Haaland will get there, I don't think they won't think he is a complete success.

I think there is a fair question, although his individual record is sensational this season, has he actually made Man City a better team or a harder team to play against. You are probably thinking of different things when you play City but whether they are necessarily better.

We won't really know until March/April where we judge City when they are in the latter stages of the Champions League and the Premier League title race.

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams to BBC Sport: "What a debut [for Keylor Navas], massive, massive saves. He kept us in it and we're thankful for him.

"What a career he has had and what a career he is having. It's not easy making your Premier League debut against Leeds.

"The start of the season was tough, no one knew each other it was hard to get the chemistry on and off the pitch. Now we're gelling together and the results are coming."

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham assistant Cristian Stellini, speaking to Sky Sports about the absence of boss Antonio Conte: "He is well, he is recovering at home. We are sad because he is not with us so he will watching the game at home.

"He was involved up until this morning. We do not have a special communication so me and Ryan (Mason, first team coach) and all the staff are in charge.

"We are ready to play. We spoke about the team and he (Conte) left me the decision because I managed the training.

"We have to play with courage and be aggressive. There is extra responsibility (in Conte's absence). Every player together with me and Ryan has to take extra responsibility. It has not been easy but I am excited."

  13. 'We will miss Conte'published at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

Tottenham v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris says the players will miss boss Antonio Conte but the team is ready to face Manchester City in his absence.

Conte is recovering at home after having surgery to remove his gallbladder.

"We have had a full week to prepare for game," the former France keeper tells Sky Sports. "We will miss our manager but the coaching staff have prepared us for the game. I think at the moment he is at home.

"It is up to us to make a good performance. There were a lot of positive things especially in the first half (against Manchester City on 19 January).

"In the second half there were a lot of things to work on and we will try to correct a couple of things, especially in or around the box. We will try to be stronger than we were. It's a great game to enjoy in front of our fans."

Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte misses today's game because he is recovering in Italy from emergency surgery to remove his gallblader.

    Assistant Cristian Stellini takes charge.

"Immediately when he was recovered enough, he called me and started talking about training and the next game," said Stellini. "Last week, he had a problem, we thought it would heal and not that it was a problem like this.

"He was so sad about this but it was not difficult surgery and the most important thing was that it went well."

Leeds played nice attractive football but they were lacking that killer instinct and that could be their downfall come the end of the season, not putting the ball in the back of the net.

Credit Forest, it wasn't their best performance but they dug in and defended excellently. They bought in a lot of players, people questioned that but Steve Cooper has turned these players around and Forest have a great chance.

Forest won't get sucked in, the way they are playing at the moment, they will be fine come the end of the season.

  18. Foden feels 'really, really bad'published at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2023

Pep Guardiola tells Sky Sports that Phil Foden is not involved after feeling "really, really bad" overnight.

The Manchester City boss adds: "He was there at the hotel. He felt unwell all night - really, really bad."

Guardiola says the decision not to start Kevin de Bruyne is tactical.

On the chance to cut the lead at the top after Arsenal's defeat at Everton on Saturday: "I am more focused on today than yesterday. Nothing has changed. We have to do our job."

Now it's time to start looking higher up the table... as we build up to the next game.

Manchester City could move to within just two points of leaders Arsenal today if they win.

And with both Premier League meetings against the Gunners to come, they would be fancying themselves for more glory.

A Spurs win would take them to within a point of the Champions League places.
