    Arsenal 1-1 Man City

The City argument there will be to wonder what Ederson was supposed to do in those circumstances other than to stand his ground? Arsenal will say that although Nketiah got his shot away he was certainly taken out.

Great composure from Bukayo Saka, cool as you like.

I think Arsenal are deservedly level, and the penalty was the correct decision.

    Game on.

    Bukayo Saka

No mistake! Bukayo Saka coolly rolls the ball home as Ederson dives the wrong way.

City will argue against that penalty decision all night long, but the facts are these - Arsenal are level and are back top of the league as it stands.

I think it's the right decision. It's a clever run from Eddie Nketiah and Ederson commits to the challenge, he does bring him down.

  5. PENALTY TO ARSENALpublished at 39 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

Confusion everywhere! But Arsenal have a penalty!

Eddie Nketiah gets in and sends a shot on target, which Nathan Ake slides in to clear off the line.

Nketiah is clobbered by Ederson after getting the shot off and it appears as though this is the offence that has prompted the spot to pointed at by the ref.

City are furious. But Arsenal have a huge chance to level this up!

What is going on? 36 minutes into the game, 1-0 up and time wasting?

  7. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

This is a debate for another time, but timewasting in the Premier League feels to get worse and worse season on season.

There are some teams in the division who's entire game-plan appears to be largely built around it.

I wouldn't say City were one of them, but they're using the tactic here.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 37 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

The referee has warned City and now he takes further measures.

    Ederson is booked for timewasting.

  9. 'Ramsdale reassures Tomiyasu'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2023

Manchester City fans’ roars were drowned out by Arsenal support - the Emirates crowd followed Aaron Ramsdale’s lead in the seconds after the goal.

The Arsenal goalkeeper instantly went to Takehiro Tomiyasu to reassure him and the capacity crowd here bellowed in support of the Japanese international.

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

One stand out player for Manchester City has been Nathan Ake in his individual performances, he's started pretty well in this game but as a defensive unit they're not quite the same. They don't have the same type of possession, though.

As a whole they have changed a lot as a team and that's effected them defensively.

  11. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

This is all going very much to City's liking.

They lead through their one chance and they are very much under Arsenal's skin.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 34 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

Walker comes back on to the field of play without receiving permission. The Arsenal players are raging and the City man gets a yellow.

    Temperatures are definitely rising.

Now it is Pep's turn to dish out some instructions to his players as Kyle Walker gets some treatment.

The City defender is going to be OK to carry on.

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

And now Kyle Walker falls heavily after an aerial challenge with Gabriel Martinelli. The winger leant into the defender. It is a clear free-kick. But this home crowd are wound up now, probably still bitter about that VAR decision against Brentford too.

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

There's frustration ringing around this ground now.

The home fans feel City are taking too long on every goal-kick.

Anthony Taylor has a word with Ilkay Gundogan. He is the ref, though, he has the power to do more about it.

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Emirates Stadium

Several Arsenal players, led by captain Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko, went straight over to Takehiro Tomiyasu after that mistake to offer instant support and consolation.

Tomiyasu, understandably, looked crestfallen but that is a sign of the tight bond among this Arsenal side.

  17. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

Well, Arsenal's response has been good.

They fashion another really good opening, moving the ball at pace across the box, left to right. Martin Odegaard puts in Bukayo Saka, who has a sight of goal but opts to take another touch that carries him into a tighter angle and allows the City defence to rally and crowd him out.

  18. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

It will be double galling for Arsenal that the goal came so soon after Eddie Nketiah's missed header.

It was pretty much City's first attempt at goal.

Steve: Not many could take that as De Bruyne did.

Robin: Tomiyasu could've kicked it out for a throw in...but the philosophy of Arteta's play, dictates him to pass it back towards to keeper to retain possession. Dangerous, high risk and costly.

  20. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Man City

Takehiro Tomiyasu is out and looking to make amends.

He gets into the box to meet a cross from the left but volleys his effort over the bar.

    Decent chance.
