Wonderful finish, Kevin de Bruyne switched on, anticipates Takehiro Tomiyasu and the back pass to Aaron Ramsdale.

It was a big call, Tomiyasu over Ben White.

De Bruyne spots it early, he gambles and he just has to stay composed and lift the ball over Ramsdale and he does it to perfection. Ramsdale not to blame it's a wonderful finish. He's barely had a kick but the kick he has had - clinical as you like.

That goal sucked the noise out of this ground for a second. There was utter, horrified silence from the home fans.

And then the away end clocked the finish and erupted.

Arsenal need to shake themselves off quickly and get back on it, especially Tomiyasu.

    Kevin de Bruyne

    BREAKTHROUGH!

It is a fine, fine finish from Kevin de Bruyne, but a gift from Arsenal.

Jack Grealish's pressure on Takehiro Tomiyasu forces the defender to play a back pass that is too weak. De Bruyne nips in and curls a finish past the onrushing Aaron Ramsdale and inside the post.

    First blood to the champions.

Big opportunity for Arsenal, the first big opportunity of the game.

The ball comes out to Oleksandr Zinchenko and he feeds in a brilliant ball with pace, Eddie Nketiah glanced the header wide and I think he's got to go back across the goal keeper there.

  5. 'Silva playing fascinating role'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2023

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    Rob Schofield
    BBC Radio 5 Live

    Bernardo Silva’s role is fascinating.

Playing at left-back when Manchester City are out of position but he clearly has the licence to take up a deep midfield position when his side have structured possession.

The system asks so much of him, especially considering Martin Odegaard has started to drift over to join Bukayo Saka on the right to create an overload of their own.

Big chance! The best of the game so far!

Arsenal charge forward and after Gabriel Martinelli fails to make anything happen, Oleksandr Zinchenko whips in a cross that Eddie Nketiah rises but heads wide.

The forward is better than that.

This certainly hasn't caught fire yet in the way we maybe all hoped it would. It feels a bit flat inside the ground. Nerves perhaps amongst the home fans?

Aaron Ramsdale needs to tend to some boot issues, so Mikel Arteta takes the chance to get his players together to animatedly drill some instructions into them.

To most forwards this is a decent chance. To Erling Haaland, it is a really, really good one. He nips in behind Takehiro Tomiyasu at the back post to meet Riyad Mahrez's chipped ball but can only poke a tame shot across the face of goal.

Matty AFC: That's never a penalty. But it's also never a free kick! If Ake is going to be brave enough to head a ball at thigh height then he's got to accept he's putting himself in danger. Got to play on from that situation!

  11. Jorginho in the actionpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2023

    Arsenal 0-0 Man City

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal new boy Jorginho bears a heavy weight of responsibility tonight in the absence of key midfield man Thomas Partey but he has already made a couple of neat interventions and is trying to direct traffic in midfield, giving out the instructions.

He's vastly experienced on the big occasion so he could be invaluable to Arsenal tonight.

Well, we've had 15 minutes and neither keeper has had a proper save to make yet.

It takes some serious strength to hold off Erling Haaland in full flight.

William Saliba is a big lad but he has to just let the Norwegian have his way and be grateful his pass after gathering possession is a poor one.

Arsenal fans want a penalty as Nathan Ake dives in to head away from Eddie Nketiah in the box - a challenge that sends the forward to the turf.

A free-kick goes City's way, though, with Nketiah's boot making contact with Ake's head.

There are gaps there for both sides to exploit.

Arsenal cut out a pass in midfield and set up Eddie Nketiah for a shot that is blocked by Ruben Dias.

Lazy lunge from Bernardo Silva, he's started the game brightly but he's got to remember he's playing against Bukayo Saka who one v one in terms of twisting and turning out of situations is one of the best in the business - you have to be really careful.

Bernardo Silva breaks through midfield and carries the ball to near the edge of the Arsenal box but his pass put wide is cut out.

That is twice now City have been able to carry the ball into a dangerous area only to mess it up with a poor pass.

This is a foul on Saka by Bernardo Silva on halfway.

Silva has a heck of a job on keeping the Arsenal winger quiet.

Granit Xhaka tracks back well and rescues Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka was robbed off possession via a sliding tackle. It's a fair challenge, despite Mikel Arteta losing it on the touchline.

Jack Grealish carries the ball to the edge of the box but his pass towards Riyad Mahrez in the box is cut out by Xhaka's intervention.

Here's the first look at Erling Haaland. He drives down the left, beats two men and then feeds in Riyad Mahrez. His pull-back is poor, though, and cut out and cleared.
