  1. 'Somehow they won the game'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Fulham

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton winger Solly March on dominating the game against Fulham but still losing: "It's a tough one to take. You can't win games by playing well, you have to put the ball in the back of the net and unfortunately we didn't do that.

"I thought we deserved something from the game.

"I don't think they came to win the game but somehow they did. That's football, unfortunately. We have to take it on the chin and bounce back.

"We're confident we can win games and if we still play like that we will win a lot more than we draw or lose."

  2. 'A difficult period for us all'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Graham Potter, speaking to Match of the Day: "The first half was below par from us. Credit to Southampton, they mixed the game up well. For different reasons we weren't at the level we should have been in the first half.

"In the second half our response was really good. You have to put those chances away. The scoreline isn’t good enough for us, we’re disappointed with that. James Ward-Prowse is elite at what he does.

"We got into some really good opportunities and at the level we’re playing at, you have to score them. We had that in the week against Dortmund, but the first half was probably a reflection of us returning from the Champions League, the changes we had to make and a lack of fluidity."

On Cesar Azpilicueta's injury: "It was a bad moment for us. He’s conscious in hospital. He’s been speaking. We’re monitoring him and making sure he’s okay."

On being booed by Chelsea fans: "The results aren’t what we want. You can completely understand the supporters’ frustration. Our job is to keep working and keep trying to improve the team in what is a difficult period for us all."

  3. 'This is a team of winners'published at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Fulham

    Southampton

Interim Southampton boss Ruben Selles, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we could do it, we prepared the whole week to do it. I thought we were ready and we looked composed, we looked how we wanted to look. We wanted to be proud of everything we did today and I think we can be proud.

"We have a fantastic group of players. We have been working well to prepare for the game and to win it. They were brilliant in every single minute.

"We are proud, we are winners in the way we need to present ourselves. We are Premier League players and we are a Premier League team.

"We deserved to win the game. We don't need to look at Leeds or Everton or anyone around us, we just look at ourselves. We know what we are doing. It is about us and how well we can perform every game."

On whether he wants the job permanently: "I would like the job permanently. It is not a secret. I don't think about that, I prepare the team."

  4. 'We need to do better'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

FT: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker speaking to MOTD: "We've dropped two points here. The chances we had in front of goal we need to be better, the calibre of players we've got up front we should be scoring them and putting them away. But that's not blaming anyone, if the strikers aren't getting the luck or hitting the target us as a defensive unit need to hang onto the 1-0 victory and secure the three points."

Difficult to criticise performance? "I don't think it is, we know as lads that's not acceptable. That's not me being down beat but we've set such high standards over the last few years that it should be four or five nil, game done and we move onto the next game. Fair play to Forest they've hung on and managed to snatch the draw at the end and that's what they've planned to do and they've gone and done it."

On defence of goal: "We're just a bit late, each one of us pressing or jumping or moving to close the ball down is a bit late and in this league you get punished for that.

"The hard work we did on Wednesday, it hasn't gone to waste, but this is a blow because you put that good shift in on Wednesday and play a game that we're not used to with the low percent of possession so to come here and drop two points is not ideal but hopefully there's a few twists and turns in our direction and now and we can go and be up there or there abouts to go and win this Premier League."

  5. 'We work together and fight together'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

    Southampton

Interim Southampton boss Ruben Selles, speaking to BBC Sport: "We saw a team that works together and fights together and it is how we need to play from now for every single minute. When we perform at our best we can beat anybody. I feel that from now the teams we face are going to have to be at their best to beat us.

"We saved a goal at Stamford Bridge and leading 1-0 that means something, it has to mean something and we celebrate them.

"Let's see what happens. We got the result, the boys are together. We will see how to beat Leeds next week."

On wanting the job permanently: "I have been clear not just this time and last time also. It is natural but not for me to make the decision. I am here for the club and the fans."

On Cesar Azpilicueta's injury: "I asked how he was. It looked pretty bad live. We wish a quick recovery for him and hopefully it is nothing to worry about."

  6. 'Can't believe how we didn't score'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 1-0 Southampton

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Graham Potter, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought first half we were below par. We got punished at the end by James Ward-Prowse, he is elite at that. Our level of performance in the first half was not great. Credit to Southampton they mixed their game up well.

"Second half we pushed and pushed but we had goalscoring opportunities that we need to score. It is the story of where we are at at the moment.

"We should do better than we did in the first half and I take responsibility for that. In the second half we had some good chances to score and I can't quite believe how we didn't."

On César Azpilicueta's injury: "He is conscious, he is in hospital. We are monitoring and are very concerned for him but he is in the best place for him with the hospital. It was a horrible incident. I think he was unconscious at one point so it was worrying for everyone. It was accidental but still it was a kick in the face and you can see how bad it was."

  10. Silva not thinking about Europepublished at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a tough game against a very good side, the way they play and the way they are dominant. They did against us what they have been doing against all the teams in this league.

"We improved in the second half, in the first half we were not at our best. We made changes and we improved.

"Overall it wasn't our best performance but we showed the resilience, the desire and the belief until the last minute to keep the clean sheet and win the game.

"They created more chances than us but we have lost some games where we have been the better team."

On scorer Manor Solomon: "He deserves all the credit, a great finish from him. It was another great moment for him. Everyone expected him to cut inside and finish with the right foot but he did the opposite.

"He's getting better and better and better and deserves all the good things because 2022 was so difficult for him on and off the pitch. He's helping us scoring goals and is loving the Premier League. He is ready to help us."

On Fulham rising to sixth and the prospect of European football next season: "Of course I congratulate the boys but my focus is on them to recover and prepare them better for the next game because we have to do better with the ball. All my focus is making them better."

  11. 'Premier League refereeing is very bad'published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Fulham

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi on why he was sent off, speaking to Sky Sports: "Because I told the referee that this week we had a meeting with his boss (Howard Webb) and I lost time and lost time in my work and my job because I think the level of refereeing in the Premier League is very bad.

"To progress we have to be with a different attitude. The referee today wasn’t in good attitude. But it’s not a problem, I didn’t say any bad words but I told him my opinion.

"I lost time. I lost time in my work to prepare my team. It was the last time I will have a meeting.

"I’m not angry because we played a fantastic game. This is our way, we have to follow it. We had many chances to score, we suffered nothing but we know very well how football can be and there are these type of games where you have a lot of chances to score but in the end you lose the game.

"I’m not frustrated but it’s my opinion about the referee.

"When I speak about referees I speak about in terms of attitude. He was not very clear in his attitude.

"I don’t want to explain more but I wanted to explain my red card."

  12. 'Goals in this for Newcastle'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    HT: Newcastle 0-2 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live at St James' Park

Newcastle haven't parked the bus and thought damage limitation. If I was Eddie Howe, I'd be saying at half-time 'put it in the box'. They have won every header. It has been a very good game.

There are goals in this for Newcastle, but Liverpool have looked very, very dangerous on the counter-attack.

  13. 'We played with a big frustration'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Wolves 0-1 Bournemouth

    Wolves

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui to BBC MOTD:

"I think that we had a good first half but that is not good enough. And after this we have to overcome the opponents with our play but don't lose and suffer a goal.

"With their only shot inside the box they score. But this is football, we have to accept this. After they scored we played with a big frustration. This is a pity for me because in these moments we have to be calm and play football. We forgot this a little bit.

"We thought a lot about the score, when you do this you are closer to losing the match. It is a pity, we've lost an important match for us. But, I repeat the same mantra. It's going to be a long race for all and we have to be ready.

"Today we are sad but tomorrow we have to start preparing for the next match.

"The only shot they had was for their goal. Don't lose the match [we have to be] able to arrive at the end with a clean sheet, it's very important for us.

"We need more calm in the last moments. We need to play football and make the pitch big. It's frustration for us but we have to overcome this and tomorrow we balance and prepare for the next match.

"I hate to lose, I am sad. But we continue, it's going to be a very long race for a lot of teams."

  14. 'We competed well against Brentford'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Brentford 1-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It feels like a defeat of course, the frustration to concede that goal at the end. The last kick of the game but again, it was really tough, really difficult. We managed to control all the set pieces, long balls, second balls and at the end to concede a goal like that, it's disappointing. We shouldn't concede a goal like that.

"We didn't create a lot, both teams didn't create a lot of chances. Of course when you score that first goal with 15 minutes to go, we were defending well. All the crosses and second balls were for us. At the end, the decision making wasn't good, we didn't defend well in that situation and then we are leaving with a bit of disappointment.

On a substitute coming on and scoring: "I think all the credit goes to the players because of course Ebs [Eberechi Eze] is always disappointed when he doesn't start but the way he came on and the quality that he brings when he came off from the bench was good, this is what the team needed.

On the match ending in a draw again: We are really close to Brentford. I think the difference is the number of goals they've been scoring and winning games but every time that we face them it was quite a touch one, a challenging one, we make it really difficult for them. You can see the quality that they have and how strong they are at home. Today I am pleased because we competed well against them and it was unlucky for us to concede that goal at the end."

  15. 'Unbeaten run gives constant confidence'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Brentford 1-1 Crystal Palace

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

On the ball into the box from Bryan Mbeumo: "I was thinking 'please let it be a good cross' and we have enough players in the box. It was a good cross and what a header from Vitaly Janelt. I think it shows, that goal, the ending shows the mentality, spirit and energy from this team and these players."

"On a day where we don't hit our highest level, I was disappointed with that. This is the Premier League, the margins are fine. They showed one top moment from [Michael] Olise, a ball in and a good header from Eze. We kept going and we had a very offensive formation in the end. It gave us a well-deserved point, it was clearly a well deserved point. We did a bit more than them, they defended low in many situations but we couldn't find the opening but the offensive formation helped."

On keeping the unbeaten run going: "The feeling of course when you have a late equaliser, the emotion running through your body is crazy in many ways so in that way it feels like a game we have won but I still have mixed emotions because we only got a point.

"But a point when you equalise late and the team is not working 100% and we continue this unbeaten run gives us constant confidence which is good.

"Big thing that we can keep this unbeaten run going and bring the energy going forward so that helps, definitely."

On Vitaly Janelt scoring ahead of Ivan Toney: "Definitely, I think he just wanted to make sure it got into the back of the net which it did. "

Newcastle have played some good stuff. Liverpool have scored two great goals but in general play they have given the ball away in awful areas. If this was still 11 v 11 you would still fancy Newcastle to get something. I wouldn't say Liverpool are dominating.
