The ball from Kevin de Bruyne is incredible. It kind of hits Ake on the head, but the ball is perfect and you can't defend that.

    Nathan Ake (Manchester City)

Manchester City win a corner on the left and they take it short with Kevin de Bruyne quickly getting it back from Cole Palmer.

De Bruyne, with the better angle and with Liverpool off guard, swings in a delightful cross to the back post, Nathan Ake has peeled off around the back, unmarked, and heads past Caoimhin Kelleher. City go ahead, for the third time tonight. Can they hang on to the lead this time?

I think that's a clever move by Liverpool, having a good head in there to make sure they don't go behind.

Manchester City's options on the bench include Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, while Liverpool have just made their third change - Harvey Elliott off, England midfielder and club captain Jordan Henderson on for the Reds.

So we're back in the position we were at the break - with penalties on the cards if there are no more goals. But there's plenty of time for more goals and drama before then.

Pep Guardiola came storming toward the dug-out when Salah's equaliser hit the net.

He will surely want to know why Laporte was left one-on-one with Darwin Nunez after Manchester City's players got sucked in by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Once the contest was reduced to speed, there was only going to be one winner.

The pace from Darwin Nunez was unbelievable, the finish is the easiest thing, but the best thing is the pass from Oxlade-Chamberlain. Incredible.

  8. goal

GOAL - Manchester City 2-2 Liverpoolpublished at 48 mins

    Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

What a game! You hope no-one missed the start of the second half as you'd have missed two goals.

Mohamed Salah equalises for Liverpool within a minute of Riyad Mahrez's goal for Manchester City. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is heavily involved just after coming on.

It was his pass that released Darwin Nunez, with his pull-back met and converted by Salah.

It's a a beautiful ball from Rodri, Mahrez comes in off the right and takes it on his left foot. He's done it for years and years, don't let him come back inside onto his left foot.

    Riyad Mahrez

Must've been an inspired team talk as City score and regain the lead with two minutes of the restart.

Riyad Mahrez collects a pass into the penalty area, cuts inside on to his left foot and shoots into the bottom corner.

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is coming on for goalscorer Fabio Carvalho as Liverpool make their second change after a forced one with James Milner off and Nat Phillips on at the end of the first half.

That saw Joe Gomez move to right-back, with Phillips partnering Joel Matip in the middle of the back four.

Fabinho is also on for Liverpool, in place of Stefan Bajcetic.

Adam Smale: Two minutes of injury time? Ridiculous. We were getting that much added on for throw ins a couple of weeks ago.

Ed O'Toole: Man City have been brilliant first half. Liverpool totally overwhelmed. But still in the game. Anyone betting on Salah getting a wonder goal in the second half despite being anonymous first half.

We have the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw coming up later on after this match has finished.

We may well get to see a penalty shoot out before then - not the first penalty shootout we would've seen this week.

It's been a great game. There have been some bits where it's been a bit ugly and they've given the ball away cheaply, but I think that's because both teams have come to win this game and nobody is sitting back.

City have probably edged it in regards to quality, but Liverpool have possibly had the better chances thinking about it.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2022

And that's the half. A very, very enjoyable half. One goal apiece. Erling Haaland scoring after 10 minutes, Fabio Carvalho equalising 10 minutes later.

    Nicely set up.

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Cole Palmer cuts in from the left flank and gets into the Liverpool penalty area but the composure isn't there and the finish is over the bar.

As has often happened tonight, it's straight down the other end and Liverpool win a free-kick. It falls to Darwin Nunez, coming in at the back post, and what a chance. He should hit the target, but again, in a good position, can only send it wide.

We have two minutes of injury time. Rodri has a go for City but doesn't hit the target, shooting low and wide.

That's where you need a cool head. He might be offside looking at the replay, but that's what you want more of from Darwin Nunez.

  20. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

Darwin Nunez with a chance for Liverpool, he shoots across goal after breaking the City offside trap but doesn't get his angles correct and the effort is wide. A really good watch this match.

Remember, if it's level at 90 minutes it's straight to penalties.
