  6. 'I'm disappointed with everything'published at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Man Utd 6-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Matt Beard, speaking to BBC One: "I'm disappointed with everything, to be honest. Our ball retention - if you can't keep the ball then you're going to put yourself under pressure. United had more desire to get on the end of crosses, to recover, to break. For me that's not a Matt Beard team, that's not the Liverpool team we built the foundation on.

"We've had a tough week this week but you can't go out and put in performances like that. We shouldn't be conceding six goals at this level of football, not with the team that we've got.

On what needs to change next week when they face Chelsea: "We just need to get back to basics and get the basics right. I can't remember us stringing together more than two or three passes today. If you look at the second and third it was our turnovers or clearances which weren't cleared which put us under pressure. That was the story of the game for us.

"I think there's a good example of Melissa Lawley breaking at the end and seven Manchester United players have ran past my player to get back and recover and she's running there on her own.

"That was the difference between the two teams. I'll have to put the finger on why it was like that today. I don't know why because this is a bit fixture and we shouldn't be getting beaten by that scoreline.

"There's a lot of work to do and we need to use today's frustration, anger and channel that into next week to make sure we give a better account of ourselves. If you don't get the basics right then the top teams punish you. That's top-level football."

    Leicester 3-0 Brighton

An excellent double save from Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig to deny Maisie Symonds pulling a goal back for the visitors. It's been an impressive debut from Leitzig who will have to be on her best form for the rest of the season if Leicester are to avoid relegation.

Brighton are still probing, looking to find a way through. Lee Geum-min lays the ball back to Julia Zigiotti but she can only shoot straight at Janina Leitzig.

  9. 'We've got lots more to achieve'published at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Man Utd 6-0 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner speaking to BBC One: "Believe it or not, I am very happy with the results. The elements of that performance, we expected to be a bit more rusty. Credit to the players and the way they took the game to Liverpool - we were totally dominant.

"Liverpool are a very good team and the scoreline is what it is. The girls have done enough today to get the rustiness out of them and expect more as we start to build more in this new year.

"They said we never had the squad depth last year. We had great players and lots of young talent, but didn't have the experience we need. To bring those players on, they are good enough to start for us. That's the reality and how competitive it is.

"It's a real credit to the whole group and that's what we are designing are. We are not happy to stay still. We got lots more to achieve so I said before the game there's 13 cup finals in the league and now we are down to 12. We've done what we needed to do for the first one.

"It's a good result for us. That was a really competitive game. We need to look after ourselves and what we can do. I want to give a special mention to our fans because I am asking every game to give their energy that they always give us. It was for the fans today that can't be here. We are here to do it for you."

    Leicester 3-0 Brighton

Free-kick to Brighton 30 yards out and it is nudged forward to Julia Zigiotti and it is well over the top.

They soon have another shooting effort from range and Danielle Carter's effort is better and on target but Janina Leitzig, on course for a clean sheet on her Leicester debut, shows good handling to save and hold on to it.

I thought [Nikita Parris] impacted the game down the left-hand side. It is not her more natural side, but she was able to use her pace. She cut in quite a lot which made it difficult for the defenders to defend the right side.

  14. 'We showed our quality'published at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Man Utd 6-0 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Manchester United forward Nikita Parris speaking to BBC One: "It was a great performance. We showed our quality on the ball. We showed how much quality we have got and it was a great win, 6-0 you can't complain.

"It says a lot about the ambition and where we want to go as a club. We knew about the recruitment we would do, but the team we have got now - the energy, enthusiasm, youthfulness and experience - will make us have a good run."

It's a really big win and a professional performance from Man United. Once they got their early goal, they really kicked on from that.

They will be just as happy coming away with a clean sheet as scoring six goals, but this title race could come down to goal difference.

  19. goal

GOAL - Leicester 2-0 Brightonpublished at 48 mins

    Sam Tierney

Leicester double their lead. A free-kick from deep is swung into the box, it is headed down by Aileen Whelan and Sam Tierney gets there and is able to bundle the ball past Megan Walsh.

    Delight for the hosts.

    FT: Man United 6-0 Liverpool

Ella Toone's two assists in this game take her total to seven this season, eclipsing any United player in the WSL.

United, who are currently applauding their supporters, have scored in each of their past 12 top-flight games, walloping in 35 goals on that net-rippling run.
