Thanks for your company today on what was a weather-hit EFL Saturday.

Norwich kicked things off with a bang as they raced into a 3-0 lead at Coventry before eventually claiming a 4-2 victory in the day's early kick off in the Championship.

There was a vital 4-0 home win for struggling Stoke against Reading but bottom side Wigan lost again, to Luton this time, and are winless in seven under Kolo Toure.

In League One the top two both claimed home wins as Plymouth saw off Cheltenham and Sheffield Wednesday edged Fleetwood.

Only three games survived the freeze in League Two but they were all biggies.

Second-placed Stevenage beat table-topping Leyton Orient and bottom side Gillingham claimed a second successive win over Colchester and Hartlepool beat Rochdale to leapfrog Dale and send them into the the bottom two.

We'll be back tomorrow at 11:45 GMT for a mouth-watering derby between Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Hope you can join us then. Cheers!

Without kicking a ball on Saturday, the Championship's top two - Burnley and Sheffield United - feel like the day's big winners after Watford and Blackburn were both held to 1-1 draws this afternoon.

There's a 13-point gap separating the Blades from the third-placed Hornets.

Norwich are back into the top six after winning at Coventry at lunchtime.

Middlesbrough travel to Sunderland on Sunday.

    • Swaggering Stevenage, who have a game in hand, reduced Leyton Orient’s lead at the top to two points after goals by Jamie Reid, Jordan Roberts and Luke Norris gave them a 3-0 home victory in a tussle between the top two, with a first-half red card for Idris El Mizouni’s increasing Orient's misery.
    • Gillingham are off the bottom after David Tutonda and Tom Nichols secured their 2-0 win at Colchester, who are four points clear of danger in 19th after their three-match winning run came to an end.
    • Rochdale had Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Sam Graham sent off and are now bottom after losing 2-0 at Hartlepool, allowing their hosts to move two points clear of the second-bottom Gills thanks to goals by Josh Umerah and Jack Hamilton.

    • Ipswich, in third, are seven points shy of the Owls after their sequence of three straight draws came to an end in unwanted style with a 2-1 defeat at Oxford, who rose to 10th thanks to Cameron Brannagan’s 83rd-minute winner.
    • New Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho has had a first game in charge to remember, guiding his side to a first win in 11 games with a 2-0 victory at home to Exeter through goals by Marlon Pack and Joe Morrell.
    • Derby’s fifth successive win in all competitions moved them three points clear of fifth-placed Bolton, with goals by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Hourihane handing the Rams victory against the Trotters at Pride Park.
    • Quick starters Barnsley have established a five-point cushion over seventh-placed Peterborough after goals inside the opening 19 minutes by James Norwood, Jack Aitchison and Jordan Williams gave them victory over Accrington, who remain a point above the drop zone.
    • The heaviest win of the day went to Shrewsbury, who soared into the top half of the table with the help of goals in either half by Luke Leahy in a 5-1 romp that left Cambridge a point from safety.
    • Visitors MK Dons came from behind to move out of the bottom four by beating bottom side Forest Green, Mohamed Eisa scoring twice after Myles Peart-Harris’ opener for the hosts, who are four points from escaping the drop zone.

We've reached full-time across the country.

Let's take a look at the headlines from the 15:00 GMT action.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Birmingham 1-2 Preston North End

Preston secure their eighth win of the season over a lacklustre Birmingham side.

Early goals from Ryan Ledson and Alan Browne inside the games opening 15 minutes were enough to seal the win.

Birmingham got one back in the games closing minutes but rarely threatened their opponents.

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Stoke 4-0 Reading

Not even the swirling fog that was creeping over the Bet365 Stadium could rescue Reading from a clinical Stoke who were on a mission today.

The Potters were all over the visitors from the opening whistle with two goals in either half.

    They move up to midtable.

Reading will bundle on to the team bus for a disappointing long journey home.

    Watford 1-1 Rotherham

Watford celebrate their equaliserImage source, PA m

Watford's run of successive wins comes to an end as Rotherham take a point back from Vicarage Road after an entertaining encounter.

Watford remain third but are 13 points behind second-placed Sheffield United.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    QPR 1-1 Swansea

QPR will be kicking themselves as they spurned so many chances to double the advantage after going ahead through Jamal Lowe's fine strike on his home debut, against his former employers.

In the end Jay Fulton made them pay with the equaliser nine minutes from time and the visitors might have snatched it late-on.

A point which does neither team many favours as the play-off race continues to be run at a furious pace.

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Cardiff 0-1 Millwall

Millwall cling on to secure a very useful three points in South Wales and ensure they are right in the fight for the play-offs in an incredibly tight table.

Tom Bradshaw netted the only goal in the first half and the visitors could have had another were it not for city keeper Ryan Allsop.

As for the Bluebirds it's another defeat and now nine games without a win in the Championship dating back to November, they remain fourth-bottom.

  12. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Bristol City 1-1 Blackburn

Blackburn's bid to go an entire season without drawing a match comes to an end at the 28th attempt.

Bradley Dack gave the fourth-placed side the lead but Antoine Semenyo levelled for the hosts.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Wigan 0-2 Luton

Luton return to winning ways with a fourth win in five Championship matches to remain firmly in the play-off picture.

Harry Cornick pounced on some slack defending from home debutant Steven Caulker to give the Hatters a first-half lead and then played-in Elijah Adebayo to double the lead after the turnaround.

It's an eighth away win in 14 games on the road for Rob Edwards’ side while the Latics are winless in seven games under Kolo Toure and rooted to the foot of the table, four points from safety.

  14. Postpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Watford 1-1 Rotherham

No goalkeeper had saved more shots in the Championship than Rotherham's Viktor Johansson this season before today and I dare say that remains the case now.

The excellent Swede comes up with a double stop to keep the scores level.

  15. Postpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Cardiff 0-1 Millwall

Callum Robinson with a chance for the hosts to snatch a dramatic equaliser but he fires the wrong side of the upright.

  16. Postpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    QPR 1-1 Swansea

Ball in the net. 92nd minute. It's Oliver Ntcham of Swansea City, but the flag is up. Breathe again QPR fans.

  17. Postpublished at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Cardiff 0-1 Millwall

Another seven minutes for the Lions to get through in South Wales.

  18. Postpublished at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Bristol City 1-1 Blackburn

Bristol City have the ball in the net but it wont count as the assistant has their flag up.

We're into six minutes of time added on.

  19. Postpublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Wigan 0-2 Luton

Just the five added minutes for Luton to negotiate at the DW. Looks like a fourth win in five for the Hatters while the hosts remain rock bottom and winless in seven games under Kolo Toure.

Kieron Fallows: I seriously fear for the future of Birmingham in both short and long term the way we're going. Club is in ruins off the pitch as it has been for God knows how long. Players need to take responsibility. And in a way, I'm scared.
