    Brahim Diaz

Just what Tottenham did not want to happen!

Cristian Romero is not strong enough in an aerial challenge with Theo Hernandez, who is then able to fire an angled shot at goal. Fraser Forster saves and then almost pulls off some heroics, with a brilliant save to parry Brahim Diaz's follow-up.

Unfortunately for the Spurs keeper and his team, Diaz gets a second bite, diving in to head home.

    Roof off.

Spurs are gifted a corner but they waste it, taking it short for Dejan Kulusevski to thread a pass into the box and straight out for a goal kick.

Slight concern for Tottenham is that Leao is one of those players who is either invincible or invisible. He's got a mood on tonight, he looks like he really wants to show up.

It's one of the best atmospheres in football I've ever seen. I've been part of and played in the Milan derby and I've never seen anything like it. The Milan fans are incredible, they're going to give Milan amazing, amazing support tonight and really be that 12th man on the pitch.

Those Spurs players will be in for a difficult night, there's no doubt about that.

  11. Giroud looking to hurt Spurspublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

AC Milan v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

Olivier Giroud would love to get one over on Spurs tonight, what with his Arsenal and Chelsea connections.

He has been directly involved in six goals for AC Milan in the Champions League (four goals and two assists) – the last player with more in a single campaign in the competition for the Rossoneri was Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2011-12 (9 – five goals and four assists).

In all competitions, Giroud has scored four times in 18 appearances against Spurs.

  12. 'Lack of clarity about Conte's future is causing instability'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

AC Milan v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

There are different nationalities in that Tottenham dressing room, a number of them have played in Italy and I just didn't understand why Conte was trying to make the point about the team lacking resilience because he has had enough time to instil that quality into the players and then he talked about wanting stability.

The lack of clarity about his future is actually causing the greater instability for Tottenham. I was speaking to a number of Spurs fans on the plane. They don't think he will be there next season and neither do I. Indeed, I think if they were to go out of the Champions League, that might be brought forward.

If there is a lack of stability at Tottenham, it's regarding the manager's future and a lack of clarity.

  13. Milan back in the last 16published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

AC Milan v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

AC Milan will be playing their first match in the knockout stages of the Champions League since the 2013-14 season tonight.

In that previous tie they were beaten 1-5 on aggregate by Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16. The Italian side have failed to score in nine of their last 14 matches in the knockout stages of the competition.

Spurs manager Antonio Conte has won eight of his last nine games as a manager against AC Milan (L1), between 2013 and 2021.

Indeed, he has seen his side win and keep a clean sheet in each of his last three trips to face the Rossoneri away from home (2-0 in 2014, 2-0 in 2019 and 3-0 in 2021 – all in Serie A).

  15. 'I don't like Conte's attitude'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

AC Milan v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't like that attitude that you have to be obsessively focused all the time. I think it's got negative connotations as well for players because I think there's a lot of players that like to go out and be relaxed, who want to be comfortable, who don't want to put themselves under pressure all the time from having only one thought.

I think some players, they play much better when they have other things in their life and they're not always worrying about it.

If you're always worrying about football, and things go wrong, it just takes over your life.

I think you can get the intensity without being completely obsessed, and if that's the difference between the English and the Italian, I'll have the English every time.

  16. Spurs on toppublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

AC Milan v Tottenham (20:0 GMT)

Overall, this will be the fifth competitive meeting between AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur, with the English side unbeaten across each of the previous four (W2 D2).

Spurs have played at the San Siro on three previous occasions in the Champions League, with their one victory coming against AC Milan (two defeats v Internazionale).

60% of their goals there have been scored by Gareth Bale (3/5), whose hat-trick in October 2010 versus Inter is one of only two instances of a visiting player scoring a hat-trick at the ground (also Rivaldo for Barcelona in 2000).

  17. 'Winning mentality takes time to build'published at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

AC Milan v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

    Asmir Begovic
Everton goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Conte has repeatedly said his project at Tottenham is going to take time. He talks about multiple transfer windows to try and transform that squad into what he wants it to be.

At the same time you still have to try and work with the players you've got and develop them.

I worked with him at Chelsea, he's a very intense coach. He talks about football 24/7 and that's exactly the way it is. It's obviously something that has given him success over so many years at every single club that he has been at.

That's what he wants to create at Tottenham, it's going to take time. When he took over at Chelsea, the squad was in a pretty good position in terms of player, winners and serial winners and he added his bit and made us into champions again.

At Tottenham it will take a little bit more time and there's nothing wrong with that. Winning mentality takes time to build.

Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Bayern Munich have the highest win percentage (86.5%) and the most total victories (32) of any team in the Champions League. Indeed, despite playing 37 matches in the competition during this period, no team have lost fewer games than them (2).
