Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch told ITV:

"Willie (Gnonto) has been playing at a high level for a while now, but to have Patrick Bamford looking fit and scoring goals, that is a very positive sign for us.

"We feel we have some weapons now.

"Gnonto is exceeding our expectations, he's doing really well.

"He's always about trying to do more and to do better... another really good performance from him.

"He's clever. The finish for the first goal is amazing. The potential is big.

"I knew we were going to be confident and it was good to see tonight."

More from Patrick Bamford, with the Leeds striker speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:

On Wilfried Gnonto's performance: "Wilfried Gnonto is a fantastic kid. He's really humble and down to earth and that just makes all the players warm to him. He's just getting better and better with each game. Everyone with that first goal was just like "wow!"

"Very similar to Di Canio. I am old enough to remember him, I'm not sure Willie is but he will probably see a lot of comparisons on social media.

"He came in probably as a prospect for the future. It has surprised the whole club but he has been with the Italian first team for a few games now so we knew he had that potential if you like. He is showing that now on a game to game basis which is good.

On his own performance: "I wouldn't say I'm fully fit because it takes a few games to get up to speed. That will take some games but in terms of how my body feels, it's a lot better now. It's on the way forward and I think it will just keep improving week on week."

  10. 'When you score one they always seem to come'published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2023

    FT: Leeds 5-2 Cardiff

Patrick Bamford is the next player to talk with broadcasters ITV.

"It was good to be back playing and get myself some more minutes, when you score one they always seem to come, I knew that would be the case all season.

"It's tough, the longer you are out the harder it is to comeback.

"It's been frustrating, hopefully the operation has sorted out the problems I've had."

  11. 'Di Canio's goal was better'published at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2023

    FT: Leeds 5-2 Cardiff

Leeds' man of the match Wilfried Gnonto has been speaking with ITV.

“I have not scored before with my first touch I think this is the first time. We wanted to start the game well and we did it. We did a great match," he said.

“We had a lot of chances, we could have scored even more, but we take the positives.

“I remember the Paolo Di Canio goal, I think his was better!

“We wanted to win in front of our fans. We tried our best and wanted to show what we could do.

“We need to continue that on Sunday.”

It's a lovely penalty there. The goalkeeper has gone early. Callum Robinson has come on and got two goals. I didn't see him getting two goals back when Cardiff were 5-0 down.

    Leeds 5-1 Cardiff

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Illan Meslier's night will be ruined by not keeping a clean sheet. Goalkeepers are a different breed. He'll be happy with the performance and the way that his team has performed going forward and I'm sure he saw a real opportunity to add to his few clean sheets.

He has had nothing to do all night and there was nothing he could do with that goal. He will go home very disappointed because clean sheets do matter to you.

One of the best moves form Cardiff in this game. Well done to Sheyi Ojo for swinging his leg at it. Gets a decent cross in, some luck with a deflection, nice header.

A little bit of a consolation but scarcely more than that.
