Mikel Arteta on competing with Pep Guardiola

Despite having to go up against his friend Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta is relishing how Arsenal are competing with City for trophies.

"I always hoped that was going to be the case one day and it's happening this season," he said.

"That's not going to change any friendship, the moments that we have, how important he is in my life, how important he is in my profession.

"We're both willing to win and defend our clubs in any way and that's always been the case since day one.

"I would prefer to do it with someone else to be fair."

Peter: Re Andy 19:29 Arsenal don’t play again for 8 days. No need to rest anyone. This indicates a lack of ambition.

Edwin Makokha: The lineup from Manchester City is clear the priority is FA Cup. Guardiola knows something to do with the Premier League that ordinary mortals may not know.

A bit of transfer news for you today.

Brighton have rejected a £60m bid from Arsenal for 21-year-old Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Premier League leaders are keen to strengthen their squad after Mohamed Elneny picked up an injury in training that could mean a lengthy lay-off.

Arsenal already have a small squad and manager Mikel Arteta does not want to jeopardise his team's title challenge through a lack of numbers.

Earlier this month, Arsenal signed Leandro Trossard from Albion for £21m and so they do not have a financial reason to sell Caicedo.

Arsenal and Manchester City take a break from battling it out for the Premier League title, so they can battle it out for the FA Cup instead.

After tonight (unless they draw...) only one will have dreams of a league and cup double.

Pep Guardiola: 'Mikel Arteta wouldn't celebrate goals against Arsenal'

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said Arsenal's Mikel Arteta had "a great, massive influence" on him and helped him become a better manager.

Arteta was Guardiola's assistant at City before taking the Arsenal job.

The Gunners lead the Premier League, with reigning champions City second.

"I had the feeling, we knew it when he was here, (about his ability for City," said Guardiola.

"I don't know my part on him but his influence on me was great, massive, so important in becoming a better manager.

"If I had left, Mikel would be here and he would be the best, absolutely.

"I know he went to 'his' club, the team he dreams of. He's a supporter, for the fact he played there, he was a captain there. He loves the club.

"I remember when we were together here, when we scored goals, he'd jump a lot and celebrate - except against one team, Arsenal."

This is a brilliant tie to get the fourth round started and it is going to be interesting to see how both managers approach it, because they meet again in the Premier League in the middle of February.

City boss Pep Guardiola always selects strong teams in the domestic cups, but we don't know how big Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will go, given his side's position at the top of the table.

The FA Cup clearly won't be Arteta's priority, but his side have got so much momentum at the moment while City are still not at their fluid best.

I am sure it will be all smiles between the pair of them beforehand, because Arteta was one of Guardiola's assistants at City before taking the Gunners job, but this is going to be a fiercely fought contest - which I think City will edge.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

It is all mind games for me. If Arsenal lose, Mikel Arteta can come out and say "well we didn't have our strongest team out there".

It is a big game for Manchester City. They need to beat Arsenal.

Arsenal, well I don't think they played a third-round game. I certainly can't remember it.

The internet says they beat Oxford 3-0 but that doesn't sound likely.

Oh by the way, did I mention that I'm an Oxford United fan?

Only 11 of the 20 Premier League made it through the third round.

At least two more top flight clubs will go out this weekend.

That is because Manchester City-Arsenal and Brighton-Liverpool meet in all-Premier League ties.

So at least seven of the 16 teams in the fifth round will be Football League or non-league.
