  1. Weghorst 'will be happy'published at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2023

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Weghorst will be happy with his night, getting his first goal for Manchester United. You never want to wait long when you join a club to get it.

It was a great finish and that will give him confidence going forward.

  2. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Another change for United and 20-year-old Anthony Elanga gets a few minutes with Wout Weghorst, on a day when he has got his first goal for the club, the man coming off.

  3. Postpublished at 84 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

United substitute Facundo Pellistri gets a yellow card for a foul just to the side of the penalty area for a foul on Neco Williams.

The free-kick comes to nothing though.

  4. Forest need to 'lift atmosphere'published at 82 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It has been easy for United.

If Forest go and close down and try to force a mistake it will lift the atmosphere.

You have to give the fans something to shout about and at the moment they aren't doing that.

  5. Postpublished at 81 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

A reminder that away goals don't count (if it's level after both legs) so any two-goal lead for Forest after 90 minutes at Old Trafford would take us to extra time next Wednesday. Easier said than done.

Steve Cooper's side desperately need a goal here in the last 10 minutes or so to give themselves hope.

  6. Scouting missionpublished at 79 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is among those at the City Ground and Villa don't have any matches against either Forest or United coming up anytime soon so may be plotting a bid for someone on the pitch with a week left in the transfer window.

The upgrade in quality with Casemiro and Eriksen is massive and actually maybe a bargain when you consider its £30mil per player and will hopefully be there for another 3 or 4 years.

    Marc

When you have a 6 foot something striker, why are Man Utd playing ball to feet to him, rather than putting the ball into the danger area, need to learn to adapt their play with him in the squad, could be more goals if right cross was played

  8. Eriksen has 'done enough'published at 75 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Wes Morgan
Former Leicester City defender on BBC One

Eriksen always seems to find space on the ball and dictate the play.

I think Ten Hag thinks he's done enough to secure the win so he wants to protect him for the next game.

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Back at the City Ground and it's a double change for United with Christian Eriksen and Antony going off and Fred and Facundo Pellistri on.

It's bad news for Forest as Morgan Gibbs-White has picked up an injury and slowly limps off, with Renan Lodi also replaced.

  11. 'Now is the time'published at 21:27 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2023

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

In the first half Forest had a 15 or 20 minute spell where they caused problems.

Now is the time. If United go back to Old Trafford with a 2-0 lead then it's tie over, I do believe Forest need a goal in this game.

  12. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

United's Christian Eriksen swings in a cross from the corner of the penalty area, but it is just behind Wout Weghorst and the big Dutch striker can't get his head on it.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 64 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Jesse Lingard, who scored the winner for Manchester United in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the 2016 FA Cup final during his time with the Red Devils, is on for Forest.

Him and Emmanuel Dennis are on, replacing Sam Surridge and Gustavo Scarpa.

  14. 'Hit the target'published at 62 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

They've had moments, Forest, and that was another good one.

When it falls to Gibbs-White you're thinking 'hit the target', but he's really unlucky.

  15. CLOSE!published at 61 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Forest desperately need to score to give themselves any sort of chance in Manchester next week and Morgan Gibbs-White goes close for the hosts, but he can't hit the target.

  16. 'Forest need to weather the storm'published at 60 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Wes Morgan
Former Nottingham Forest defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's very much Manchester United at the moment.

Hennessey has been called into action a couple of times.

United are trying to finish the two ties in this game so the next goal is going to be crucial.

Forest need to weather the storm and try to get something on the counter-attack.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 59 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

With England manager Gareth Southgate in the stands, he has seen a wonder goal from Marcus Rashford and the striker is now given a rest as he comes off, with Alejandro Garnacho on.

Soon after Danilo is replaced by Jack Colback in the Forest midfield.

  18. HITS THE WOODWORK - Manchester Unitedpublished at 56 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Another chance for Manchester United. Christian Eriksen produces a lovely curled effort from the edge of the box, but it bounces back off the crossbar with Wayne Hennessey nowhere near it.

The ball falls to Marcus Rashford and his follow-up effort is straight at the Forest keeper.

  19. 'So much time' for United triopublished at 54 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Eriksen, Casemiro and Fernandes have had so much time on the ball in midfield.

I think Forest have missed Yates, he's tenacious and always puts a tackle in.

  20. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester United

Tyrell Malacia pulls back a cross from the byeline and it is met my Bruno Fernandes on the half-volley, but he can't steer it anywhere near the Forest goal.

At the other end Danilo has a go but the lack of power makes it easy for David de Gea.
