That was a tester. Keeper Gavin Bazunu pings a pass into Southampton full-back James Bree who is right on the touchline but he deals with the ball well and keeps the visitors moving forward.

Southampton play out from the back and work the ball nicely down the right until Romeo Lavia has his legs taken from under him by Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle's Brazilian midfielder was not going to be sold by a little dummy that time.

A triple change from the hosts. Joe Willock, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson make way for Allan Saint-Maximin, Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak.

Feels like there is a little bit of tension in St James' Park.

As I type that Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy are readied for action by the hosts.

I think Eddie Howe needs to make a change to add some energy and provide a lift.

If he leaves it too late and Southampton score then it's hard to get it back after that.

Much better from Newcastle as Dan Burn decides to go marauding down the right and then shifts the ball on to Joelinton.

    Saints stand firm though.

Chance for Newcastle here from the free-kick as Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar stand over the ball.

That's awful from Schar mind. Straight into the wall. I suspect the Swiss defender won't be on the next one.

Southampton boss Nathan Jones is fuming at something. He is barking out instructions to his team from his technical area and letting his players know exactly what he wants from them.

It'll be interesting to see how Newcastle adapt to Southampton's changes.

It shouldn't be a big panic but will Eddie Howe react or think his team is good enough?

He'll have stressed the importance of not switching off at the start of this second half.

Southampton getting their foot on the ball in the early parts of the second half. Newcastle will not want to let them dictate things for too long.

People can calm down. Newcastle have won. There's absolutely zero chance Saints win this. Worst team in the league. Worst manager. Completely lucked our way to this semi final. Never has a team more underservedly made it this far.

    Gavin from Southampton.

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been on the St James' Park pitch at half time to bid farewell ahead of completing his move to Nottingham Forest.

Looks like Southampton have made a couple of changes at the break.

Romain Perraud and Romeo Lavia are on for Lyanco and Carlos Alcaraz.

He'd know all about that. A hero in these parts, the former Newcastle winger was very much the sort of guy you'd want if you were going on the attack.

Southampton didn't know what had hit them in the first 20 minutes.

Just one tiny slip up gives Che Adams a chance and hands Southampton hope.

Everything started to become a bit more subdued and Nathan Jones will be asking his players to make the most of it.

I think that red card might have been to a member of staff. It didn't look like it was one of the substitutes.
