I was 7 years old the last time Newcastle won a trophy, I still have match programme from the 1976 final and the heartbreak of the geordie Denis Tueart scoring the winning goal for Man City - tonight is a biiiiiiig night!

I knew Saints lost the second i saw the starting 11. No point even playing. No chance Saints win this match. Nathan Jones will go down as one of the worst Premier League appointments.

Callum Wilson is very calm as he tries to play on the shoulder and that's the problem Southampton have right now.
They have three at the back but need to play high up the pitch and that's leaving big space in behind.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton (Agg 2-0)
Southampton are all over the place at the back which given they have five players back there most of the time is some going.
One long straight ball down the right almost puts Miguel Almiron in but Saints keeper Gavin Bazunu just gets to the ball first.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton (Agg 2-0)
Southampton really need to dig in here. They are in danger of being completely swept aside.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton (Agg 2-0)
Southampton are really struggling in the middle of the park. Joelinton robs his fellow Brazilian, Lyanco and drives into the Saints' penalty area but his shot deflects over.

Dennis Ethan: The Magpies might just spoil the party for United at Wembley
Andrew Priestley: Eddie Howe has done some job at Newcastle United in the last 12 months.

Another chance for Newcastle to load players into the Southampton penalty area but this time Kieran Trippier wildly overhits hit delivery from the left.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton (Agg 2-0)
Almost Newcastle and Sean Longstaff's second of the night. Bruno Guimaraes plays a lovely reverse pass to find him but his left-foot shot flashes wide.

It's a dream scenario as they go two goals up and a local lad scores the goal. They are already within touching distance of that final.
I said moments ago they look comfortable coming down the right-hand side and when Trippier is on ball he just sees everything play out in front of him.
That was a brilliantly worked goal.
Sean Longstaff
The decibel level inside this place has just rocketed.
Bruno Guimaraes starts the move, weaving past a couple of Saints midfielders to play in Kieran Trippier.
The England full-back races forward down the right and turns the ball inside to Sean Longstaff, who drills an effort into the bottom left corner.

One thing to take into consideration is the possibility of Newcastle being overexcited.
I'm sure Eddie Howe will have told them to play at a good pace but not to get carried away.
Newcastle 0-0 Southampton
A couple of sloppy passes in midfield from Southampton gifts Newcastle the ball in their territory.

Re anon 19:54: think you’ve forgotten this just isn’t a one season wonder. Newcastle been on the rise since the takeover and the run to the end of last season was just as good. Bring on next season and we will continue to rise

An early Joelinton burst has the home fans off their feet but Kyle Walker-Peters whips the ball off the Newcastle midfielder and sets off on a marauding run of his own before the move breaks down.

Don't get me wrong, Newcastle are doing amazing. But I'll be surprised if they continue to repeat for the next few season. Or even next season. Similar to Leicester's title winning season. Where are they now?
