  7. 'How will Rodgers' comments help the situation?'published at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2023

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said after Saturday's 2-2 draw against Brighton that his squad was low on quality and "short in many areas".

Former Foxes winger Matt Piper believes those comments might be an attempt by Rodgers to deflect attention away from him, with Leicester one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester's When You're Smiling podcast, Piper said: "It may be a diversion tactic from himself. You have to ask yourself why would he be saying it? Every time he says something you have got to question why he could and would be saying it.

"I just don’t see how it is going to help the situation we are in, the players he is talking about.

"Language is important and it’s not as balanced as it could be and I don’t see how it will help improve players and find that confidence they have clearly lost."

    Mohamed SalahImage source, Getty Images

BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Giulia Bould wonders if Liverpool made the right decision renewing Mohamed Salah's contract last summer.

The 30-year-old's new deal runs until 2025 but he has only scored seven Premier League goals this season.

Speaking on The Red Kop podcast, Bould said: "Those moments of Mo magic just aren't appearing anymore.

"It is all hindsight isn't it. I know there was a big clamour to get him signed up again on a long-term deal and obviously that happened.

"I just wonder was that a mistake in hindsight and should the money have gone somewhere else?

"It is easy to say now but if that is how he bows out of Liverpool wouldn't have been better to call it quits when his stock was fairly high and put the money back in?

"I don't think it is just him. There are is issues across many areas of the pitch right now."

  18. Navas to Forest is 'really intriguing idea'published at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2023

Nottm Forest v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

Transfer Daily podcast logoImage source, BBC Sport

A potential Nottingham Forest move for veteran Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas would be intriguing, says Daily Telegraph journalist Jim White.

The Paris St-Germain keeper is behind Gianluigi Donarumma at the club and, with Forest needing a new keeper to cover Dean Henderson's injury, White thinks he would be an astute signing.

"He's a three-time Champions League winner and he wants to be playing football," White told the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast. "I think it's a really intriguing idea.

"Henderson is out injured for a month and besides he's only on loan. Forest could do with a really experienced keeper to come in.

"I think it would work. He's a great shotstopper, an entertaining goalkeeper and I think he would enhance the league. He may be 36, but I definitely do not think he is too old for the Premier League."

Jordan Henderson - not sure he was as bad as people thought he was early on in his career. But can't imagine many saw a future Premier League/Champions League winning captain in him 10 years ago. Not even Sir Alex, who didn't sign him because he runs funny.

Got to be Hendo. Not a great start to his Liverpool career when we signed him from Sunderland. But now, he's Captain Fantastic. And you can tell in the team's performance when he's playing (minus this season so far).
