  1. 'Hugely frustrating'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward, speaking to Sky Sports: "Hugely frustrating for us. We switched off for maybe 15 minutes in the first half and ultimately it's cost us. We've got to try to put this behind us and take some positives from the game.

"Maybe the penalty went against us which may sound strange to say. I felt we did more than enough to win the game rather than draw.

"Ultimately the penalty means nothing because they win 1-0. We've got to go again, put in some more hard work and try and convert those chances why they come to us."

On why things are how they currently are: "I don't know what we can put it down to. We've had a real lack of consistency in our games this year. Ultimately if you don't show that consistency and put the points on the board then you'll be at the wrong end. Thankfully we know we have the games there, the quality in the changing room and the characters available to get us out of this mess."

On if being three points away from relegation is a concern: "It's always a concern but we have to focus on the next game. Getting out of that situation is by winning games of football. More performances like that but taking our chances and I think we'll be OK."

James Ward-Prowse (106) passed Jason Dodd (105) as the player to record the most Premier League wins for Southampton.

He also broke Dodds' Premier League appearance record for the club today with 330.

Only four players have made more Premier League appearances for all clubs than Ward-Prowse since his debut in 2012.

  3. 'Home truths this week'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Southampton

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse to Sky Sports: "Huge result. It has been a tough couple of weeks with a few home truths. You saw a turning point in our season.

"I'd rather a free-kick [than a penalty], sometimes you score them, sometimes you don't. Fair play to the keeper, but three points is better than any goal you can score.

"Midweek [the FA Cup defeat by Grimsby] was never near the standard we should be producing. It is the sign of a good group that we can turn it around. We got let off the hook at times today."

This is Gavin Bazunu's third Premier League clean sheet of the season - and his second in the space of three games, having also denied Chelsea last month.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland keeper, who joined Southampton from Manchester City in the summer, is the youngest first choice keeper in the top flight.

He'll have tougher games than today mind, Leicester didn't even force him into a save.
