  1. 'Cancelo exit would be shock'published at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on the Football Daily

I am shocked about Joao Cancelo because Oleksandr Zinchenko was sold and the lack of options that Pep Guardiola has in those full-back areas.

I know Rico Lewis can play there and Kyle Waker. Does this mean Manchester City will be looking to bring a left-back in?

From the outside it looks like some sort of altercation or bust-up because why would Pep Guardiola risk that?

I had no suspicion that Joao Cancelo was unhappy at Manchester City or that Manchester City were unhappy with him.

Clearly we don't see everything on the outside. There are reasons. His game-time has been limited - especially since the World Cup.

There have been some reports, in particular one in the Daily Mail, suggesting some problems behind the scenes between Cancelo and Pep Guardiola and some of his team-mates related to his lack of selection.

We now understand this developed over the weekend. We have seen before from Guardiola that if a player is not happy and is not good for the dressing room atmosphere then very quickly they do something about it.

Mark: I don't think we need anybody but we do need all our players firing and as a team. There's something not quite right at City at the moment, but I'm sure Pep will have the boys working on getting it right.

Dave: Josko Gvardiol - adept as both a left-sided centre-half and left-back and would be with us for the next decade. Then Bellingham and Kvaratskhelia in the summer.

Dale: I don’t believe it will happen in January but I still believe we need an out-and-out left-back and that is about it for me.

David: Wait until the summer and get Bellingham.

Keith: No signings needed, it’s a squad full of quality players, two for every position. They now need to refocus and go on one of those winning runs to catch then pass Arsenal.

Aliyan: As long as we can get Moises Caicedo over the line, I'm happy. I'm worried about having no replacement for Partey for the second half of the season, because Elneny is just not good enough to sustain a title race.

Harry: Caicedo would be an amazing signing. A midfield pillar who will develop along with our other young talent like Saka, Martinelli, Saliba, Nketiah etc. But if we have to wait until the summer so be it. However, we have to sign a central defensive midfielder this transfer window. We don't have enough depth in that area to sustain a title challenge.

Glen: Why wait until the summer to go in for Declan Rice? Go for him now and get a deal done. If we delay he will end up at Chelsea or Manchester United. Why wait and give our opponents a chance to get stronger?

Richard: Despite the signings already completed in this window, Arsenal will have failed if the one glaring issue, a proper midfield back-up for Thomas Partey, isn't addressed. If Caicedo can't be acquired, then it must be one of Martin Zubimendi or turning Wolves heads for Ruben Neves. Even Youri Tielemans would help. It's like Douglas Luiz all over again.

Steve: No-one. Got the best team and depth already. Let everyone else scramble over purchases and spending their millions.

  6. Porro deal not concluded and is complicatedpublished at 08:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.

The on-off transfer finally reached a point that allowed Porro to fly into Luton in the early hours of this morning in order to have a medical as part of a transfer likely to cost around £42m.

Although it is being stressed the transfer is not concluded and the structure of it is complicated, it is anticipated it will be concluded before the 11pm deadline.

  7. WSL's bottom clubs chasing strikerspublished at 08:21 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport reporter

It's all about strikers in the WSL today and the clubs down the bottom are all in need of one.

In Liverpool's case, one of those they have held conversations over is Reading's Natasha Dowie.

Dowie, 34, spent three years at Liverpool between 2012-2015, winning two WSL titles with current manager Matt Beard.

She has struggled for regular game time at Reading, hampered by injuries, but is a proven goalscorer.

Whether Reading can afford to let her go is another question but if they can identify a target then it may open the door for Dowie to search for game time elsewhere, with Liverpool being an option.

Reading and Liverpool have also talked about the possibility of Reds midfielder Rachel Furness switching back to her former club but nothing has materialised yet.

Furness wants regular football and Liverpool are open to her leaving if a loan or a permanent move becomes available. Bristol City and Birmingham City have also enquired.

Seems that Everton have made no progress on signings in the time it took to appoint a manager. Precious days wasted in the club's worst ever season. Dyche should have been lined up in advance of Lampard's sacking so he could get straight to work, but again the board lacked the foresight to do this.

  9. Norwich close on Arsenal's Marquinhospublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Norwich are on the verge of signing Arsenal winger Marquinhos on loan for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old has had a medical and it is understood the deal should be announced this morning.

Marquinhos has made six appearances since joining the Gunners last summer but is expected to get more first-team experience in David Wagner’s promotion chasing squad.

  10. Fulham closing on Lukic, but doubts on Soarespublished at 08:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

Fulham are expected to sign Sasa Lukic from Torino today for around £8m.

The 26-year-old midfielder is a Serbian international.

However, there remains a question mark as to whether Cedric Soares joins him at Craven Cottage from Arsenal.

He was expected to sign a six-month deal last week but there is a stumbling block and unless there is a compromise over the wages for the Portuguese right back then the deal might not go through.

  11. Porro having Spurs medicalpublished at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Alex Howell
    Football reporter

Sporting Lisbon full back Pedro Porro has arrived in London for his medical before completing a 45m euro move to Tottenham.

Spurs currently have Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal who have been playing on the right hand side of their defence. They also have Djed Spence but he has found first team football hard to come by since joining the club in the summer.

Porro has been in good form for Sporting this season scoring three goals and providing 11 assists in 25 games.

Antonio Conte has already added Arnaut Danjuma to their squad in this transfer window and he signed on loan from Villareal until the end of the season.

Head over to the Spurs page to not miss any transfer news.

Arsenal's pursuit of Alessia Russo is worrying for United, the red devils need to get a deal done to tie her down to a long term deal, she is one of the many standout stars of our WSL title chasing team and it would be a real shame if the club let her depart for Arsenal.

  14. Russo and Arsenal's striker searchpublished at 07:58 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport reporter

Arsenal's world-record bid for Alessia Russo was rejected by Manchester United last night but it does not mean the deal is off.

The Gunners are desperate for a striker following season-ending injuries to Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema.

They could still up their bid and put pressure on United, who could risk losing Russo for free in the summer.

Arsenal's late move could be shrewd - United may be pressured into accepting the money, while the Gunners could beat their rivals to one of the country's most exciting talents.

But Arsenal have back-up options. They have also bid for Lyon's Signe Bruun. The French club are keen not to sell but again, might take a fee for a player who is likely to leave in the summer anyway.

Interestingly, Arsenal had enquired about Man City's Jess Park, currently on loan at Everton, earlier this month. There are suggestions they have even asked that question again in recent days.

  17. Moyes to decide on West Ham movepublished at 07:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Derby 0-2 West Ham

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

West Ham manager David Moyes said after last night's FA Cup win at Derby that he would decide this morning whether to make a late move into the transfer market.

Moyes' concern is that new signing Danny Ings and central defender Kurt Zouma are both injured and whilst he doesn't think either is too serious, he cannot be sure the pair will remain fit.

West Ham have already blocked Michail Antonio's departure, suggesting if Moyes does make a move, it will be for a centre-half.

He has previously been linked with Everton's Michael Keane.
