Alfie Doughty is another former Cardiff loanee in the Luton side tonight, of course.

Luton have won four of their last five league games, while Cardiff's last triumph was on Bonfire Night.

But you might not know it from what we have seen so far this evening.

It has been fairly even.

Cardiff threaten on the counter once more, with Sheyi Ojo striding into space before eventually running out of gas.

It's something Luton need to be aware of, though.

Cody Drameh gets in behind again. He has had a big impact so far - which will be no surprise to Cardiff.

We need to see more of that. Cardiff need be finishing off their attacking moves. That's one of the reasons why they haven't scored enough goals.

Callum Robinson sends in a dipping effort from 25 yards which bounces to safety off the bar.

Not the cleverest back pass from Jack Simpson, that.

His bouncing effort is hoofed into the stands by Ryan Allsop, who could not do much else.

A lack of organisation there from Cardiff City

Cardiff's travelling fans are making plenty of noise in the opening stages.

Fair play to them - they have not had a great deal to shout about so far this season.

The set-piece is taken short and leads to the first shooting chance of the game, bur Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu's wayward effort is blocked and Cardiff clear.

Luton have the first corner of the night.

Cody Drameh has an early touch against his old club, but the ball rolls harmlessly behind.

Then Elijah Adebayo gets on the ball but is bundled over by Mark McGuinness. That could be quite a tussle.

I don't think it's just getting a striker in for Cardiff, for me it's the creativity.

If they can bring in a physical presence with a bit of quality then of course that's going to help but the main job for the manager is getting them attacking better as a team.

Luton have been busy already today, having signed midfielder Marvelous Nakamba on loan from Aston Villa for the rest of the season.

He is Luton's third signing of the month.

Cardiff have not signed anyone in January - but are still hoping to get some business done.

Guinea international Sory Kaba is one of their targets.

It was only five months ago, yet much has changed since Luton last faced Cardiff.

When Luton went to Cardiff for the reverse fixture, Steve Morison was in the home dugout and Nathan Jones was the Hatters' boss.

Jones, of course, has since departed for Southampton, while Morison made way for Mark Hudson, only for the ex-Cardiff skipper to lose his job earlier this month.

Plenty of players remain, of course, with Luton hoping for a similar result tonight after goals from Luke Freeman and Gabriel Osho secured a 2-1 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium in August.

I don't think Lamouchi is an attack-minded coach so much.

I think if you looked at how Nottingham Forest played [under Lamouchi] it was all about being organised, difficult to beat and then they played on the counter attack.

I think that will suit Cardiff with the players that they have.

It has been a sorry season so far for Cardiff City, who are just three points above the Championship relegation zone having failed to win in nine league games.

The Bluebirds last week turned to Sabri Lamouchi as they look to pull clear of the bottom three, with the Frenchman aiming to replicate the reasonably successful spell he had at Nottingham Forest between 2019 and 2020.

Lamouchi is Cardiff's third full-time manager this season after Steve Morison and Mark Hudson, and he has work to do to revive a team who have scored the fewest goals in the second tier by some distance.

The good news for Cardiff is that their defensive record is pretty good, so it is going forward where Lamouchi must look to provide some inspiration.
