Krystian Bielik, on loan from Derby, becomes the second player to open his account for Birmingham tonight.

Hannibal Mejbri's opener was his first goal for the club too.

Another set-piece. It was a great delivery from Hannibal but it was too easy for Bielik.

It was a good header but he was under no real pressure.

Button came for it and got nowhere near it.

It's a wonderful delivery from Hannibal Mejbri towards the far post - just in that little corridor of uncertainty between goalkeeper and defenders.

David Button is again unconvincing as he comes off his line and fails to reach it - and Krystian Bielik outjumps a couple of defenders to nod home.

A fine crowd of 17,781 at St Andrew's tonight, bolstered by 2,244 travelling supporters, who made the long, long journey from Sandwell.

Already signs that Blues are going to sit back a bit more this half.

Not sure that's the best approach given how impressive they were on the front foot in the first period.

Albion need to show more intensity, get the ball forward quicker and they need Daryl Dike to get in the box at every opportunity.

But Birmingham have been very well organised and have made it difficult for Albion to get through.

Conor Townsend has his name and number back on his shirt after the half-time break following that head wound in the first half.

Another stoppage early in the second period as Baggies defender Erik Pieters goes down with what appears a knee issue.

He landed awkwardly in winning a header but looks like he will be able to continue after some treatment.

Blues showed energy and intensity in abundance in the first half. It was a really good half.

The challenge is to replicate that in the second half. I would expect Albion to change things and target the wide areas where they started to pose Blues problems.

If Carlos Corberan thought that Midlands derbies weren't much to get too hot and flustered about based on last Friday night's meeting with Coventry City, he might be having a quick rethink tonight.

There are derbies - and there are Blues derbies, especially at a fired-up St Andrew's.

Blues are clearly in the mood, Hannibal's in the mood - and Albion have got a job on here.

The Baggies will have to be better after the break, if they are to get anything from this. A first effort on target would certainly be a start!

Every chance that West Bromwich Albion will drop out of the play-off places this weekend if they lose tonight, given there are four teams within two points of them.

Birmingham, meanwhile, will open up a 10-point gap to the bottom three and climb to 16th should they hold out for all three points.

Well, not quite how Carlos Corberan would have envisaged his first 45 minutes since signing that new long-term contract with West Brom in midweek.

The Baggies trail - and deservedly so on the balance of play.

A goalkeeping mistake or a piece of inspired invention? Depends on your viewpoint - but Hannibal Mejbri's cheeky free-kick is the difference between the sides at the break at St Andrew's.

Darnell Furlong and Hannibal Mejbri tussle on the touchline.

Okay Yokuslu and Auston Trusty then have a bit of handbags as they pile in to support their respective team-mates. Bookings for both.

And in retaliation for that, Hannibal Mejbri wins a goal kick and throws the ball into the crowd as he's pushed over by Daryl Dike, just to waste a few more seconds.

    Birmingham 1-0 West Brom

Four minutes to be added on to the end of this first half after those couple of head injuries earlier.

There will probably be more than that as Darnell Furlong goes down just off the pitch, then rolls back on to it in a classic piece of footballer cunning.

Important intervention from Blues' Krystian Bielik to stop Jed Wallace reaching a Marc Albrighton cross.

Birmingham have defended very well when required.

Hannibal Mejbri whips in a very dangerous free-kick but it's straight at David Button who does well to hold on.
