  3. 'Full of pride, but disappointed as well'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    FT: Rangers 3-2 Partick Thistle

Partick Thistle boss Ian McCall tells BBC Sportsound: "The first thing I'll say about Malik Tillman is I hope he can stay in Scotland. He can play. He can really play.

"I don't think he knew what he was doing [for the second goal]. Mick [Beale] showed an awful lot of class, so did [James] Tavernier to do what they did. There's no blaming anyone.

"We're full of pride but full of disappointment as well. First half I thought we were terrific. The overriding emotion is we're proud of our players and our supporters were magnificent."

  4. 'I feel sorry for the officials' - Bealepublished at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    FT: Rangers 3-2 Partick Thistle

More from Rangers manager Michael Beale, who tells BBC Sportsound: "There were nice moments in the first half but we were disjointed. It was right to make the second-half changes.

"I asked the team to play forward a bit more. We needed to be a bit more direct. Being behind at half-time isn't ideal but the players found a way again."

On Partick Thistle's first-half penalty, Beale adds: "It's not a deliberate handball but it's the rule, I feel sorry for the officials. If they're applying what the rule is we need to look at that."

It was an issue for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, conceding the first goal too many times, and it's continued in Michael Beale's early reign.

But they managed to get the job done. They've been getting the results.

  6. 'It would've been unjust us winning a game in that way'published at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    FT: Rangers 3-2 Partick Thistle

Rangers manager Michael Beale says "there was a massive understanding" regarding his side's second goal.

"Malik [Tillman] gets injured, he didn't see the ball's been kicked out," the Ibrox boss tells Viaplay. "Naturally when he stands up, he thinks he's got to press.

"We scored, it's controversial, but this club is built on high standards and we want the best for the game. I made a lot of mistakes today in terms of team selection but that wasn't one of them.

"It was the right decision. I don't want that hanging around [Tillman's] head. I felt it would've been unjust us winning a game in that way."

I've never seen that type of thing live or been involved in it. There were about four Partick Thistle players standing around the centre circle looking to take that ball because they knew a free goal was coming.

  8. 'It was the right thing to let them score'published at 18:11 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    FT: Rangers 3-2 Partick Thistle

Rangers skipper James Tavernier tells Viaplay he is "disappointed" by his team's first-half showing.

"Second half, we were better and we're through to the next round which is the main thing," he says.

On the controversy surrounding Rangers' second goal, he explains: "I think that Malik didn't really know what was happening and responded to the throw in.

"We have high standards at Rangers Football Club. It was the right thing to let them score the goal. It was about carrying on after that.

"It wasn't to our standards today which was disappointing. We need to look back on it and improve going forward."

It was night and day from Rangers in the second half. They didn't hurt them anywhere near enough in the first half.

Tillman sprung into life after the break. Rangers showed their strength and depth in their squad.

    FT: Rangers 3-2 Partick Thistle

Okay, let's recap a crazy game now the dust has settled at Ibrox.

Thistle held a surprise lead at half-time after a Kevin Holt penalty, given for a monitor-reviewed handball against Antonio Colak.

The Rangers striker then nodded in an equaliser before James Tavernier's penalty was saved by Jamie Sneddon.

Malik Tillman stole the ball to score when Thistle intended to surrender possession by kicking it back up the park from a throw-in. That led to a major stooshie and Rangers boss Michael Beale signalling that his players should allow the Championship to level from the re-start.

After a quick handshake between the managers, play raged on and the winner came from a Rangers corner, with James Sands heading home - or was it an own goal? The replays are inconclusive...

It all added up to a classic cup tie, that's for sure.

Was it from a Rangers head though? James Sands is the closest home player but it looks like Connor McAvoy got the telling touch.

As I get my head round what's happened, I should tell you that Alfredo Morelos is getting ready to come on and Jamie Sneddon has been booked for time-wasting.

Sneddon made a good goal-line save to deny Antonio Colak a few moments ago and Colak is the man about to make way for Morelos.
