  1. 'Not time to drop the ball' - Bealepublished at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

Rangers manager Michael Beale tells Sportsound: "Our squad's looking quite strong in attacking positions at this moment in time. There's a lot of competition in certain areas so it's not time to drop the ball.

"Connor Goldson had a slight issue with a calf problem. Fashion Sakala was away because his wife had a baby. We've got a strong bench if needed.

"Partick Thistle are the team that are in the way, we need to move them out the way. It's important that we show respect to our hopes and dreams. It's very firmly trying to get to another final. We have to play to that importance."

  2. 'If Rangers have an off day, who knows?'published at 15:57 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall tells Sportsound: "Give the fans a performance they can be proud of. Obviously, that doesn't mean that we're going to win.

"Who knows? If Rangers have an off day and we play really well, who knows? it's football.

"We can't turnover the ball in dangerous areas against good teams. You can't give the ball away in your own half. We're under no illusions what it's going to be like. I don't expect Rangers to be slackening off in a cup tie.

"Hopefully, our fans go home very happy with how we perform, no matter what the result is."

Thistle gave Rangers a fright on their last Scottish Cup visit to Ibrox in 2008. Damon Gray had the visitors in front midway through the second half, only for Kris Boyd to hit back straight away to earn a replay, which went the way of the team in blue.

  5. Up and down campaign for Thistlepublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

It's been a streaky season for Partick Thistle, who recovered from a horrible run of five defeats in a row in October-November to claw themselves back into the promotion race, only to lose their past two at home to teams at the wrong end of the table. They sit fifth in the Championship, just six points off second place.

They have played Premiership opposition twice this season, earning a draw and penalty shootout bonus away to Kilmarnock in the group phase of the League Cup before going down 4-1 at Aberdeen in the quarter-finals.

  6. Beale's unbeaten runpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

Rangers are certainly enjoying life under Michael Beale, who has yet to lose a game since taking over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in December.

That's a run of 11 wins and one draw, including a League Cup semi-final success against Aberdeen and a narrow victory at St Johnstone in the previous round of this competition.

His team are strong favourites for more cup joy today.

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

For Thistle's last win at Ibrox we need to go all the way back to October 1981. The Jags actually beat Rangers twice that season but ended up getting relegated from the 10-team top flight.

George Clark opened the scoring and a fresh-faced chap called Maurice Johnston knocked in the second in a 2-0 win. I wonder whatever happened to him?

Partick Thistle have not beaten Rangers since 1993, a 3-0 win at Firhill.

Gerry Britton scored in that game and also netted at their prior meeting at Ibrox pictured below, a 3-1 win for the Ibrox side.

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

Today's managers have a good relationship, with Michael Beale disclosing he received a message of good luck from Ian McCall when taking on his first managerial post.

"He sent me a lovely letter when I got my job at QPR, which was a nice gesture," he said on Friday. "He showed a touch of class.

"He’s someone we’ve loaned players to, someone I know outside of football, and I wish him well."

Rangers and Partick Thistle have not met in a competitive match since a Scottish Premiership encounter at Firhill in 2018 - almost five years to the day.

Ibrox captain James Tavernier scored the second of the visitors' goals in a 2-0 win after Josh Windass' opener.

  12. Graham up front for Thistlepublished at 15:21 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

Thistle make three changes following last weekend's 1-0 loss to Cove Rangers.

Aaron Muirhead is brought in to bolster the defence, while veteran Brian Graham is back to lead the line and Scott Tiffoney will add some X-factor to the midfield area.

Captain Ross Docherty doesn't make it after a late fitness test, but is among the replacements.

Graham, 35, has a double role as manager of the women's team and they also have a Scottish Cup tie today at home to Hearts. That kicks off at 18:00, so he might have to forgo a shower and get straight into a taxi in his boots...

  13. Raskin & Hagi start for Rangerspublished at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers v Partick Thistle (16:00)

Janaury signing Nicolas Raskin makes his first Rangers start, while Ianis Hagi is in the first XI as he makes his way back from the ACL injury that kept him sidelined for a year.

There are seven changes in total from the 2-1 home win over Ross County last time, with Allan McGregor taking over from Jon McLaughlin in goals.

James Sands, Glen Kamara, Malik Tillman and Antonio Colak also come in as Michael Beale shuffles his pack.

John Lundstram is injured and Fashion Sakala is missing, while Connor Goldson, Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack get a rest on the bench.

Rangers continue their defence of the Scottish Cup at home to Partick Thistle.

The Championship side make the short trip across the River Clyde and will have a healthy contingent of 2500 fans cheering them on.

Rangers lifted the trophy for the 34th time after an extra-time win over Hearts last May, while Thistle have had their hands on the famous silverware just once - way back in 1921.
