  2. 'Bonkers passage of play'published at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2023

    Rangers 2-2 Partick Thistle

    Martin Dowden

    Scottish football eh?

Absolutely bonkers scenes here at Ibrox and on balance it feels like the right outcome.

Malik Tillman perhaps didn’t appreciate Thistle’s intent to hand back possession when he stole the ball and scored.

It was clearly Michael Beale’s call to allow Scott Tiffoney to walk through and equalise, albeit it was clear not everyone in blue agreed.

Allan McGregor never made it easy for him. I think the right thing has been done. Rangers still have 20 minutes to find a winner.

    Scott Tiffoney

Yes, that's what's happening as Scott Tiffoney is allowed to saunter forward unopposed to knock in an equaliser.

Well, unopposed until he gets to goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who doesn't look best pleased at his manager's decision.

    Extraordinary.

    What's happening now?

It looks very much like Michael Beale is instructing his players to allow Thistle to score an equaliser from kick-off.

    Malik Tillman

    Wow, that's a controversial moment.

Kevin Holt shapes to knock the ball back to Rangers from a throw-in after an injury to Malik Tillman had led to the home side knocking it out midway in the Thistle half. But Tillman gets back up and nips in to steal the ball before sprinting away to round the keeper and score.

    All hell breaks loose!

A change up front for Thistle, with Anton Dowds taking over from Brian Graham.

No excuse for the veteran striker missing his second job as women's team manager now. He's got 35 minutes to get to the cup tie with Hearts...

James Tavernier goes down the middle and Jamie Sneddon stands tall to push the ball away. Smart goalkeeping.

Was the contact outside the box? It does look that way, but the VAR check is complete and James Tavernier steps up.

Ryan Kent has a pop at goal and there are loud cries for a penalty from the stands as it cannons off the elbow off Lee Hodson. The ex-Ibrox defender was just outside the box and play goes on as Kemar Roofe sends a tame header into the arms of Jamie Sneddon.

    Martin Dowden

The half-time changes and likely rollicking has delivered exactly the response that Rangers needed.

It is now pretty much one way traffic with the home side showing far more urgency and intent.

Thistle’s job is the same as it was at kick-off. Hang in and hope for a big chance.

They’ve managed that once already and have had one or two excellent efforts, Brian Graham’s long ranger the latest reminder of their threat.
