  • Burnley 12 points clear at top of Championship but held to draw by Millwall

  • Wins for Rotherham, Blackburn, Norwich and Stoke in second tier

  1. CLOSE!published at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Swansea 1-2 Stoke

Stoke almost claim a two-goal cushion via an outrageous effort!

Whether you could call this a genuine attempt on goal is dubious, but Jordan Thompson's cross from near the corner flag on the left loops high into the Swansea sky and nearly dips in under the crossbar. Andy Fisher tips it over.

Before then, on-loan Wolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic had been busy for Stoke, punching Ryan Manning's corner away and collecting a Matthew Sorinola cross from the right that took a deceptive deflection.

    Ryan Hardie (63 mins)

The home side not behind for long in the Papa John’s Trophy semi-final.

Ryan Hardie has 14 goals in all competitions this season and he’s come off the bench to level the tie.

He picks up a floated ball on the left-hand side of the area, cuts back on his right foot and clips a curling finish over the goalkeeper.

Home Park is rattling. This means a lot to them.

    Joe AllenImage source, Getty Images

Joe Allen, who set up an opening goal that must feel a dimension away for Swansea fans now, makes way for the hosts - Liam Walsh replaces him.

Allen had just had a shot blocked from just outside the penalty area. Swansea have less than 20 minutes to avoid a fourth defeat in five games.

  4. CLOSE!published at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Blackburn 1-0 Blackpool

A warning for Blackpool: Sammie Szmodics picks up a pass from Sorba Thomas and sees his shot saved by Chris Maxwell.

Szmodics has three goals in his last four appearances against these opponents. In the mood for more, you suspect.

  5. goal

GOAL: Plymouth 0-1 Cheltenhampublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Alfie May (49 mins)

The visitors had their goalkeeper Luke Southwood to thank for going in level at the break.

Plymouth also had a goal ruled out for offside.

But now the visitors lead through Alfie May!

Plymouth fail to clear an innocuous ball forward, it falls for Cheltenham and May is played in on the right side of the area and it’s a superb low finish across the goalkeeper.

  6. CLOSE!published at 21:13 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Norwich 2-1 Birmingham

    Off the line!

Norwich are inches away from a third goal!

Birmingham goalkeeper John Ruddy is beaten to Adam Idah's headed through ball by Kenny McLean and his shot is heading over the line but Kevin Long just manages to stretch and poke a leg out to clear the ball away before it crosses the whitewash.

  7. goal

GOAL - Rotherham 2-1 Sunderlandpublished at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Joe Gelhardt

Joe Gelhardt had the ball in the net with a confident finish that was ruled offside just before Rotherham made it two. Now he has a legitimate goal!

Luke O'Nien hangs a cross in from the right and the Leeds prospect heads in.

Gelhardt grabs the ball and runs back towards the halfway line with a stern look on his face. Textbook stuff.

A goal in League One as well with Adam Mayor giving Morecambe the lead at home to Port Vale.

A big goal for struggling Morecambe.

Still 0-0 between Fleetwood and Cambridge.

    Millwall 0-1 Burnley

    Vincent KompanyImage source, PA Media

It took Vincent Kompany's side a while to get going but Burnley are moving through the gears now and come close to doubling their lead as Josh Brownhill's shot cannons back off the post.

What do Millwall have in way of a response? A point here should see them into the play-off spots.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Blackburn 1-0 Blackpool

Sorba Thomas has a shot blocked for Blackburn. Blackpool boss Mick McCarthy decides he's seen enough, swapping Morgan Rogers and Kenny Dougall for substitutes CJ Hamilton and Josh Bowler.

Stockport have broken the barricades at Rochdale.

Will Collar opened the scoring from the penalty spot and has scored a second just two minutes later.

Played into the right side of the area, he fires a right-foot shot and beats the goalkeeper at the near post.

12 goals for the season now for Collar.

The other three games still 0-0.

  12. goal

GOAL - Rotherham 2-0 Sunderlandpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Shane Ferguson (56 mins)

Rotherham make it two straight after Sunderland have a goal disallowed!

It doesn't get much harsher than this if you're an away fan on a Tuesday night in February: Dan Neil swings a perfect cross from the right on to the run of on-loan Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt in front of the Rotherham goal, who converts but is adjudged to have been offside in what looks like a marginal call.

Perhaps capitalising on Sunderland being somewhat rattled by that, Rotherham break through Tariqe Fosu. The Brentford loanee splits the visiting defence with a low diagonal pass from the right to left channel beyond the halfway line, feeding Shane Ferguson.

The Northern Ireland international still has plenty to do, as they say, but he canters towards the penalty area and drills a deadly finish into the far corner of the net!

    Rotherham 1-0 Sunderland

This has been a nervy start to the half for the home fans, although Ollie Rathbone's just forced a save from Anthony Patterson with a shot.

Before then, Luke O'Nien sent a strike awry for the Black Cats and Alex Pritchard narrowly failed to connect with a cross.

Sunderland are five unbeaten in the league and pushing to keep that positive run going.

  14. goal

GOAL: Norwich 2-1 Birminghampublished at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Maxime Colin (53 mins)

    Out of nowhere!

Blues halve the deficit through Maxime Colin's left-footed strike from just outside the box.

Norwich had been absolutely cruising but will have to be careful they don't drop points from a game they had been dominating.

They don't have a great home record this season - do Birmingham sniff an unlikely opportunity?

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Blackburn 1-0 Blackpool

Tyrhys Dolan wants a penalty and receives a yellow card for diving.

Not the start to the second half the scorer would have wanted. That never looked like a persuasive call for a spot-kick.

  17. goal

    Ashley Barnes (51 mins)

The league leaders are in front!

It's only taken them six second-half minutes to go in front through Ashley Barnes, who smashes in from close range after Millwall failed to clear from inside the box.

It's a striker's goal as the ball pings around in the penalty area, eventually dropping kindly for Barnes to hammer it into the net.

Burnley have a 14-point lead at the top of the Championship as it stands.

  18. Postpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Norwich 2-0 Birmingham

It was a completely dominant first half from Norwich and Birmingham could have been even further behind.

Blues boss John Eustace would not have been happy with it and he's reacted by hooking Juninho Bacuna at the break to send on striker Lukas Jutkiewicz.

    Stoke 1-2 Swansea

Stoke have the first half-chance of the second half as a free-kick from the left bounces dangerously in front of a line of players in front of goal.

None of them can apply a decisive touch and Swansea goalkeeper Andy Fisher gathers.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Blackburn 1-0 Blackpool

Daniel Ayala was Blackburn's hero with the only goal of the game at Ewood Park against Swansea on Saturday.

Unfortunately for Ayala, he's been forced out of this one through injury at the break. Hayden Carter, who some felt was a little unfortunate not to start tonight, has replaced him.
