Elsewhere tonight, Plymouth take a break from their League One promotion challenge to try to reach the final of the Papa Johns Trophy.

Fellow League One club Cheltenham, currently 19th in the third tier, are their opponents at Home Park this evening.

Accrington host Bolton in the second semi-final on Wednesday, with the final at Wembley on Sunday, 2 April.

  2. Swans bring in three; Jagielka out for Stokepublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Swansea v Stoke (19:45 GMT)

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Blackburn was Swansea’s third in their last four games, but that victory came in their last home match, beating Blackpool 2-1.

Russell Martin makes three changes; Matty Sorinola, Ollie Cooper and Morgan Whittaker supplant Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton and Luke Cundle.

Swans striker Joel Piroe, who starts, has two goals in his three league appearances against Stoke, netting in this fixture last season.

Swansea starting XI: Fisher; Cabango, Wood, Darling, Sorinola, Allen, Grim, Manning, Cooper, Whittaker; Piroe.

Subs: Sondergaard, Naughton, Latibeaudiere, Walsh, Congreve, Ntcham, Cullen.

Stoke manager Alex Neil has warned that Swansea will make the pitch as wide as possible as they bid to hand his side a fourth successive away defeat following their 1-0 loss at Blackpool on Saturday, which has left the Potters 19th in the table.

The big news for Stoke tonight is that Phil Jagielka is out ill, but Ben Pearson, who missed that trip to the seaside with a calf issue, returns in place of Jordan Thompson.

The visitors haven’t been great in Wales recently, losing three and winning only one of their trips there - but each of their last four league victories in the country have been against their opponents tonight.

Stoke starting XI: Sarkic, Hoever, Sterling, Wilmot, Jagielka, Fox, Pearson, Laurent, Smallbone, Brown, Campbell, Gayle.

Subs: Bonham, Taylor, Adebambo, Thompson, Baker, Reddin, Lowe.

Here's a look at how things stand as we head into this evening's games.

Burnley already have a big lead which they will hope to stretch further with a win at Millwall, who themselves are right in the thick of the race for a play-off spot.

Watford beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 on Monday to move up to fifth, but they could be out of the top six by close of play this evening if results go against them.

  5. Three changes apiece in Lancashire derbypublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Blackburn v Blackpool (19:45 GMT)

Blackburn are seeking two home wins in four days thanks to Daniel Ayala's 89th-minute header for the only goal of the game against Swansea on Saturday, which drew them level with the top six.

Joe Rankin-Costello, Callum Brittain and Sammie Szmodics come in, replacing Hayden Carter, who drops to the bench, and injury victims Harry Pickering and Ben Brereton Diaz.

Blackpool might want to look out for Szmodics; he’s been involved in four goals in his four previous league appearances against them, with those three goals and one assist including a double in his final home league game for Peterborough in May 2022.

Blackburn starting XI: Pears, Rankin-Costello, Ayala, Hyam, Brittain, Buckley, Travis, Thomas, Szmodics, Dolan, Gallagher.

Subs: Hilton, Phillips, Carter, Morton, Garrett, Hedges, Vale.

Second-bottom Blackpool can give themselves a chance of escaping the relegation zone with victory tonight, so this would be an opportune moment for the visitors to end their three-game losing run on the road in the league.

Mick McCarthy, who has a long injury list, rests Lewis Fiorini and will have James Husband and Andy Lyons alongside him on the bench, with Dom Thompson and Jordan Gabriel the new starters alongside Charlie Patino, who's back from a one-game ban.

It’s been more than 45 years since Blackpool won at Blackburn, but that’s not as terrible a run as it sound; they’ve drawn four of their seven games at Ewood Park since a 2-1 win all the way back in September 1977.

Blackpool starting XI: Maxwell, Connolly, Gabriel, Yates, Dougall, Carey, Thompson, Rogers, Poveda, Patino, Nelson.

Subs: Grimshaw, Husband, Bowler, Lavery, Hamilton, Lyons, Garbutt.

    Breaking

You may have missed this one but earlier today, Gareth Ainsworth left League One club Wycombe to take charge of QPR in the Championship.

Ainsworth had been in charge of the Chairboys since 2012 and returns to Loftus Road after nearly seven years as a QPR player.

Colchester boss Matt Bloomfield is set to replace Ainsworth at Wycombe.

  7. Rotherham ring changes; Sunderland switch threepublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Rotherham v Sunderland (19:45 GMT)

Rotherham need at least a point to ensure they do not end this evening in the Championship relegation zone, and there’s good news for the Millers as key midfielder Ollie Rathbone is fit to help their bid to end a five-match winless run including two successive defeats, the most recent of which came against Coventry on Saturday.

On-loan Leeds defender Leo Hjelde joins the line-up at the expense of Cohen Bramall and Brentford loanee Tariqe Fosu also starts, while Hakeem Odoffin’s run of eight successive starts ends and Jamie Lindsay is back in the squad.

The hosts have won one of their last 12 league games against Sunderland, losing seven times along the way - although that victory was an emphatic one last season, winning 5-1 at the New York Stadium.

Rotherham starting XI: Johansson, Peltier, Hall, Humphreys, Hjelde; Coventry, Rathbone, Ferguson; Ogbene, Hugill, Fosu.

Subs: Vickers, Harding, Bramall, Kelly, Washington, Lindsay, Odoffin.

Sixth-placed Sunderland’s play-off hopes could end up flat as a pancake if their five-game unbeaten league run comes to a halt tonight, and Tony Mowbray follows through on his pre-game hints by making three changes.

At the back, Dennis Cirkin and Luke O'Nien replace Trai Hume and Aji Alese, while midfielder Alex Pritchard is promoted from the bench in place of Patrick Roberts.

This is Sunderland’s first league visit to Rotherham in the Championship since October 2004, when the Black Cats won 1-0 with a goal from Dean Whitehead.

Sunderland starting XI: Patterson, O'Nien, Ballard, Batth, Cirkin, Neil, Michut, Amad, Pritchard, Clarke; Gelhardt.

Subs: Bass, Roberts, Ba, Bennette, Hume, Ekwah, Alese.

    Norwich v Birmingham (19:45 GMT)

Carrow Road has not provided too many home comforts for the Canaries this season, with their victory over Hull on Valentine's Day ending a run of six league games without a win there - four of which were defeats.

They last won successive home games all the way back in September when Dean Smith was in charge. Their form has remained inconsistent under his successor David Wagner but they remain very much in the promotion-chasing pack.

The omens look good tonight at least, with opponents Birmingham City having lost on their last four visits to Norfolk. The Blues will be looking to put off-field issues to one side tonight after being hit with an EFL charge yesterday.

Having won two on the bounce, John Eustace's side have since lost their last two games - the second of which saw them throw away a lead at lowly Huddersfield - to leave them just seven points clear of the relegation places.

  9. Burnley eye chance to move 14 points clear at toppublished at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2023

    Millwall v Burnley (19:45 GMT)

The Clarets have the chance to go 14 points clear at the top of the Championship if they take all three points in the capital this evening.

We may only be in February but that would be a massive gap and it would take a huge downturn in form to prevent Vincent Kompany's men from gaining promotion back to the Premier League in May.

But standing in their way tonight are a highly-motivated Millwall side who are eyeing another big scalp after a brilliant 3-2 victory over second-placed Sheffield United on Saturday, thanks to Tom Bradshaw's hat-trick.

Unbeaten in 10 home games, the Lions have made The Den a fortress again and sitting outside the play-off spots on goal difference alone, they have their own promotion push to maintain.

Good evening! Hopefully by now you've eaten your fill of pancakes and are ready to settle in with us for the next few hours, where we will take you through tonight's five Championship fixtures.

Of course that won't be the first football to watch today - what, you didn't hear about the annual Royal Shrovetide Football match in Ashbourne?

The game, which dates back to 1667, sees thousands of players competing to move a ball to opposite ends of the town and it takes place over two days so we won't know the result of that until tomorrow I'm afraid!
