We have been looking at some classic European ties between Manchester United and Barcelona in today's live page, ahead of tonight's Europa League play-off at the Nou Camp.

Paul Scholes winner that sent United to the 2008 Champions League final was a big highlight, but that was followed by a couple of disappointing defeats in the 2009 and 2011 finals.

Barca emulated United's achievement of a decade earlier in claiming the 2009 treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League, becoming the first Spanish club in history to do so.

Barca were arguably even more dominant when the two sides met in the showpiece at Wembley two years later as Messi produced a masterclass, scoring one goal and setting up another for David Villa. United lost 3-1, with Wayne Rooney's goal - cancelling out Pedro's opener - their only shot on target as Barcelona mustered 12.

According to Opta stats, external, Manchester United have only once before won six games consecutively in European competition - they won their first six games in the 1965-66 European Cup season.

Erik ten Hag's side go into this evening's Europa League knockout play-off at Barcelona having won each of their last five matches in Europe.

Do you think they will equal their record with a sixth win? Thumbs up if you do, down if you don't...

  4. Cooper 'not paying too much attention' to title racepublished at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Nottm Forest v Man City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

Steve Cooper on if City will end the season as champions: "Obviously them and Arsenal have been brilliant this year and a couple of others are still behind them. I can't say I'm paying too much attention to that end of league."

Can Forest beat them?: "All we’ve done since Fulham is what it takes to put a plan together for City. How it’ll end up I'm not sure, but am sure we’re coming up against an incredible team. We’re looking forward to it, embrace the challenge but realistic to know we have to be perfect in our game – but why not?"

  5. 'It's a challenge we have to embrace'published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Nottm Forest v Man City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

Steve Cooper on the off-field issues at Man City: "What we always do is prepare for a team to be at their best. It’s not that easy to predict a City line-up, but fairly straightforward to predict the City style and level they play at.

I'm not too sure of other stuff, we just plan for a team to be at their best and build our work around that. When at their best, they’re really good, more than that but I repeat it’s a challenge we have to embrace, to believe in ourselves. We’ve got good players, we had a disappointing result at Fulham but on the whole doing OK and we have to aim to keep that going."

  6. 'This is what the club longed for'published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Nottm Forest v Man City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper on his plans for dealing with Erling Haaland and Manchester City: "One word - difficult. He's one of the best number nines in the world and has made a seamless transition to English football, with the way he has played and the goals he has scored.

"There is no point hiding from it - we are up against one of the best strikers in world.

"These are the games we wanted when searched for promotion. We wanted to come up against the best teams and the best players. We wanted to not just test ourselves but to show we can do our best as well.

"So we are looking forward to the game. We’re at the City Ground. Whatever team City play they’re incredible all over pitch so we’ll have to be perfect, but this is what the club longed for."

  7. Cooper 'expecting' PL permission to add Cook to squadpublished at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Nottm Forest v Man City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

More team news from Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper: "It's about focusing on players that are available and will be featuring.

"Moussa Niakhate is closer to returning, not to full training yet but hopefully next week. That will be a positive step as he's been out for a while, but he will have to play some games before he is ready for Premier League action.

"We have applied through Premier League rules to bring Steve Cook into the 25-man squad, which we're hoping will be fine. I am expecting that to happen with circumstances we find ourselves in."

  8. 'McKenna out for six weeks, Boly for three months'published at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Nottm Forest v Man City (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper, speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League match at home to leaders Manchester City, started with a disappointing injury news update: "Scott McKenna is going to be out for six weeks, more or less. That’s a blow. Willy Boly is looking longer than three months.

"Not news we were hoping for. Obviously we were concerned when they walked off early at Fulham.

"What the scans showed was not great for either of them.

"They are ruled out for a while, which adds to out injury list but is something we have to get on with."

A final one from Sean Dyche on Everton fan protests: "They are trying to get their point across, but they've backed me, the staff and players.

Tony Hibbert. It is impossible to imagine him in anything other than an Everton shirt. A pitch invasion was a fitting tribute when he scored his first goal in his own testimonial against AEK Athens in 2012. 'If Hibbo scores we riot' indeed.

Some 328 career appearances, one goal. Cult hero status.

We asked regular contributors for their club's unlikely cult hero. Read the piece in full here.

  17. 'I'm bringing in a different format'published at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Everton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Everton

Sean Dyche on why his side have a better record against teams at the top of the Premier League than the bottom: "As I said, we are trying to bring a different format that I think is correct. I know the derby has other importance, but if you look at those two games [a 1-0 win against Arsenal and 2-0 defeat to Liverpool] and say we took three points, most people would say 'okay, that is a reasonable start'.

"Two performances against two good sides, not that much in it. I thought we created enough against Arsenal at home, but it is not as easy away from home."

  18. 'Certain results are more helpful'published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Everton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche on the importance of this game: "The most important league game is at the end of the season. Certain results are more helpful, but you can't underestimate the strength of beating Arsenal.

"It changes the feel, rewards the fans for their part. There is a lot going on, and yet they parked it and went to the stadium ready to back the side."

  19. 'We take every opponent seriously'published at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Everton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche on Leeds, who visit Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday: "I saw them at Nottingham Forest and I thought they were the better side but didn't win; that can happen.

"We take every opponent seriously, our players do, but we'll put a lot of thought into our performance.

"We want to open up enough to be productive whilst staying tight enough to look after yourself."

  20. 'We are exploring possibilities'published at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2023

Everton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Everton

Everton boss Sean Dyche on whether Everton need to learn lessons from recruitment problems: "I came in here with open eyes, it will be a challenge. There's no point masking that. The striker department has fewer options than we would like.

"I'm trying to align a situation that is better going forward. That takes time. The main focus is to fast-track the side into winning games. That is really important, but we are exploring possibilities."
