  1. 'No-one can handle' Rashford - Scholespublished at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

    Barcelona 2-2 Man Utd

Marcus Rashford wreaked havoc in a deadly second-half display for Manchester United in Barcelona in which he scored one goal and played a huge part in the other - and he is firmly on course for his best-ever season in football.

The England forward's goal took his total in a sensational season to 22 in all competitions, equalling his best return with plenty more games still left.

"He is virtually unplayable at the moment," said former United midfielder Paul Scholes on BT Sport.

"No-one can handle him. Wherever he is playing, left, right or down the middle, he just seems unplayable."

Erik ten Hag said Manchester United "have a lot of character and determination" after his side contested a thrilling first-leg draw at Barcelona to leave their Europa League play-off tie finely poised.

Having previously met in two Champions League finals - both of which Barca won - the sides are trying to reach those heady heights again.

This encounter at the Nou Camp in Europe's secondary competition was another step on that road back to the top.

Xavi's men grabbed the opener when Marcos Alonso headed in at the back post from Raphinha's corner, but United responded immediately through the in-form Marcus Rashford as he slipped in a finish at the near post.

They showed their resilience to turn the game around as Rashford's cross was then turned into his own net by Barcelona defender Jules Kounde.

But United were unable to hold on as ex-Leeds winger Raphinha's cross from wide on the right sailed all the way into the net.

  3. 'Unhappy Campers'published at 08:04 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

    The Daily Star

The Daily Star has concentrated on the fall-out from last night's 2-2 draw between Manchester United and Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

It reports that United manager Erik ten Hag was left frustrated after goalscorer Marcus Rashford was "denied a penalty" that could have given the Red Devils a slender advantage to take back to Old Trafford for the second leg of their Europa League knockout play-off.

  4. Uefa urged to block any Qatari bid for Man Utdpublished at 07:55 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

Uefa has been asked to block any Qatari-led takeover of Manchester United.

Qatar already owns French champions PSG through Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) which has links with the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) - the country’s sovereign wealth fund.

In a letter seen by the BBC, the human rights group Fair Square has written to Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin, copying in Premier League chief Richard Masters, “to highlight several issues of serious concern” after reports that “entities linked to the Qatari government are proposing a bid that would enable them to take a controlling stake in Manchester United”.

The letter continues, “In line with Uefa’s rules aimed at protecting the integrity of its competitions, we would urge Uefa to outline a clear public position prohibiting any takeover of this nature.

“No consortium of Qatari investors capable of such an acquisition would be able to convincingly demonstrate their independence from the Qatari state.”

Uefa rules prevent clubs with the same owners competing in the same European competition, so a Qatari bid would have to come from an alternative to QSI, but some believe all Qatari funds are distributed from a central source.
