  1. 'Casemiro knows about the big games'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We talked about big games and big occasions. Casemiro knows all about them and he's popped up with a big goal.

The delivery from Luke Shaw is what makes this.

    The goal stands!

Some Man Utd players had moved a bit early, but not Casemiro, who was onside.

It was a superb header. Glanced way beyond any save Loris Karius could muster.

    Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

It is Casemiro heading in superbly from a whipped Luke Shaw free-kick, but did the Brazilian midfielder move a fraction early.

    Manchester United strike first!

Or do they? This could be offside...

  5. Ten Hag and Howe keep their counselpublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Wembley Stadium

There was no mass team-talk for either side that some managers might have called during that break in play.

Erik ten Hag briefly spoke to Wout Weghorst and Antony, whilst Dan Burn came over for a drink but other than that, Erik ten Hag and Eddie Howe kept their thoughts to their respective coaching teams.

In fairness, they are two of the less demonstrable Premier League managers.

    A proper chance!

Sean Longstaff's low ball from the right runs right across the face of goal and is collected by Allan Saint-Maximin. He shows lovely footwork to beat a man to get a sight of goal but his angled shot is blocked by the palm of David de Gea.

Well, we've had 30 minutes of stop-start football. It's cagey. Cagier than watching the Rock and Con Air back to back.

Lisandro Martinez requires patching up after being the man challenging Fabian Schar for that header.

Schar is also down, but after a bit of treatment, both are grand to crack on.

That gives the TV chance to pick out Sir Alex Ferguson in the crowd, followed soon after by an absolute unit of a Toon fan, shirtless and showing the 'NUFC' tattooed across his vast stomach. And is that a mullet he's sporting? Strong.

  9. 'Schar should score'published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Schar should score. He sees the man but turns his back as he goes into the challenge. If he goes in full pelt with his head then that's a goal.

Kieran Tripper really does know how to whip a dangerous ball in to the box.

Miguel Almiron sets him up and the right-back duly delivers, sending in a ball that Fabian Schar meets under pressure to head over.

  11. 'Man Utd have a foothold in the game'published at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Ben Mee
Brentford defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle have started the brighter, they'll be fresher after the week off but Manchester United have got a bit of a foothold in the game now.

They've probably had the better chances.

It's a very even contest this.

It hasn't been the prettiest to watch, mind.

  13. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Now this is a worrying moment for Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes is down and in need of some treatment.

He tips a bottle of water over his head and gingerly moves to the touchline before returning. Not sure there is a player Newcastle would want to lose less than the midfielder.

  14. 'We want Glazers Out'published at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Wembley Stadium

The first audible 'We Want Glazers Out' chant from the Manchester United supporters.

The press box is further away from the Manchester United supporters than the executive area that each club's dignitaries are in, so Avram Glazer will have heard that.

The Glazer family are still to decide whether to sell the Old Trafford club or merely accept a fresh source of revenue to redevelop the stadium.

  15. Karius settling downpublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

Loris Karius has had the chance to make two very comfortable saves to ease his way into this Wembley final. Good chance to settle the nerves and he is certainly receiving great encouragement from the Newcastle supporters.

Antony is limping now. He looks to be holding his groin. Not what Man Utd want to see so early in the game.

He has been the most advanced and attack-minded player for his side so far.

Poor start by Utd but if they can keep Newcastle from scoring early, they have a chance with so many games changers!

    Kay from Switzerland

There has been an awful lot of nonsense talked about the value of the League Cup mostly from supporters of teams that have underperformed this year. However, we have 2 top 5 teams in the final, a passionate crowd and a good start to the match. Of course winning the league cup matters

Wrong choice! Casemiro doesn't err often, but he does here, sending a pass to the left that is cut out when going to his right to the unmarked Antony would have been better.

  19. Brilliant Casemiropublished at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Wembley Stadium

That was a superb crossfield pass from Casemiro to fellow Brazilian Antony.

I think we all know Casemiro was a good player because of what he won at Real Madrid.

But maybe we didn't know the full extent of his talents because he was playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos amongst others.

He has been sensational this season.

  20. 'Newcastle dominating midfield'published at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle are dominating the midfield positions. They are picking up second balls and running past Manchester United midfielders.
