  1. 'The game should have been gone'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Man Utd 2-0 Everton

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire speaking to BT Sport: "The game should have been gone. The lads started the game on the front foot and we were disappointed to go in with it only 1-0 [at half-time]."

"We were aggressive and we had a game plan. We got in behind them many times. We didn't let them out of their half and that's the aim at Old Trafford. That's the aim we have every game we play."

  2. Given hopes for Newcastle 'fairytale'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Brentford v Newcastle (15:00 BST)

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given says it "would be fairytale stuff" if the Magpies qualify for the Champions League and admits his old club are in the driving seat for the top four.

"It's looking really good," he told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast. "They had the six-week blip where results dropped off but now I hope they can really push on.

"It would be fairytale stuff if they finish in the top four. They're in a brilliant position and their goal difference is so much better than Manchester United and Tottenham."

Newcastle made it four consecutive wins with a resounding 5-1 victory at West Ham on Wednesday and Given hailed manager Eddie Howe's decision-making.

"West Ham made individual errors but you can't take anything from Newcastle. The energy levels and workrate were phenomenal and Howe makes subs at the right time.

"Everything he is doing is absolutely perfect and the results are following."

  3. Can Spurs bounce back?published at 14:32 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Tottenham v Brighton (15:00 BST)

Cristian Stellini's interim stint in charge of Tottenham got off to a bad start as they conceded a last-minute equaliser against Everton on Monday.

They had an extra player for half an hour but couldn't make it count having gone 1-0 up through Harry Kane's penalty.

There was plenty of lingering issues from Antonio Conte's reign in the performance and Spurs will be under pressure to deliver at home today.

They take on an in-form Brighton side who are unbeaten in five league games and sit four points below them in the table.

Brighton have lost only one of their 15 matches in all competitions in 2023 too.

  4. Lampard returns to struggling Chelseapublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Wolves v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

It is a return for Frank Lampard as Chelsea boss until the end of the season and his first match back comes at the Molineux.

Chelsea take on a Wolves side battling relegation and who will be without captain Ruben Neves, serving a two-match suspension.

Lampard has a big task on his hands with Chelsea currently sitting 11th in the table having won just four of their past 20 Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Wolves have only managed one win and five points in their past seven league fixtures.

They are only a point above the relegation zone.

  5. 'Will Cooper last the season?'published at 14:30 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest (15:00 BST)

    Darren Fletcher
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

The thing that stood out for me with the statement that was released is it actually said 'Steve remains the manager now.'

It made no commitment to him being the manager until the end of the season and you wonder what the consequence would be if they were beaten, for arguments sake, against in-form Aston Villa this weekend.

  6. 'We still need to be more clinical'published at 14:29 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Man Utd 2-0 Everton

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay speaking to BT Sport: "Obviously it's nice to score. We could have scored three or four in the first half, We have to be more clincial, and I'm sure that's what the manager will say.

"I thought after the reaction against Brentford and the win on Wednesday, and [the result] last week at Newcastle, it was a good win.

"We wanted to play on the front foot and create chances and that's what we did."

Schwan: Man management of ETH of Maguire, he played him as he needs his captain to play & above all he need to cancel Everton danger in set-pieces & Bruno playing back to send balls behind Everton line. ETH is amazing how he adopt tactics based on opposition & players.
