  2. 'We create the chances for Haaland, he does the rest'published at 19:57 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-4 Manchester City

Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne, speaking to BBC Sport, on reaching 100 Premier League assists: "I am a creative player and try to create as much as possible. We scored a lot of goals in the eight years we have been here, I have been blessed with the team-mates here. It is nice, maybe when I am done playing football it is something I will look back.

"Haaland's second goal you will never see me do that! You would get me to Southampton hospital if I do that!

"Haaland is happy here, he knows we create a lot of chances and he does the rest.

"Grealish has been playing exceptional and the difference now he has been having more goals and assists. He is exceptional."

  3. 'We will keep working hard'published at 19:55 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-4 Man City

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ruben Selles, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think until the second goal. We had a plan we knew what we wanted to do. We had an opportunity to go 1-0, we missed that. We have played who can make a difference. We tried to stay in the game as much as possible.

"We wanted to keep them in their own half. We wanted to make it difficult for them to arrive in our half. We tried to do our thing and I think it worked for a big part of the game.

"We went into the second half believing we could do something because of the standards we set in the first half but then the second goal came.

"They are working well and we are trying to show those connections. We need to continue working to get those last bits there for us. We keep the boys believing and keep working hard.

"Every game is big. We tried to win today."

  4. 'We were in the game for 60 minutes'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-4 Manchester City

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ruben Selles, talking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were in the game for around 60 minutes. We made a solid performance in the first half but the second goal let us down. The quality they have, if you drop, they can be very very dangerous. We came back with our goal but then the game was over after the penalty. We showed our identity in the first hour.

"The game plan was to apply pressure as high as possible and keep them in their half with some very clear triggers. It worked for a big part of the game but unfortunately we conceded just before half-time. We tried to break through the lines and that also worked in parts of the game.

"We knew it was a gigantic task when we took it on. We are performing and we are going to keep fighting for every point. We have enough goals in the side and we are going to go for it."

  5. 'Haaland is on Ronaldo and Messi's level'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-4 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. taking to BBC Match of the Day: "I give a lot of credit to Southampton. Their game plan was really, really good. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition when you're not at your level. We were fortunate to be ahead at half-time. We had more physicality in the second half. We found the second goal after we won a dual and after it was easy."

On Jack Grealish: "He has been really good. He had a big, big chance in the first minutes and it could have changed how we played in the first half, but sometimes you have to mature into the game and keep the focus. With the quality we have up front it can make the difference."

On Erling Haaland: "The second goal was amazing. It is not easy to pick the ball up in the sky and put it on the grass. His talent is really good. We need him. The first half was not our best level but he changed the game. As a top scorer we lived two incredible decades with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but he is on that level. He scores a lot of goals. I am very happy with 65 minutes after injury and he helped us again."

On Bernardo Silva and his energy when coming on: "He is fantastic and exceptional as a human being and football player. He is so important for us. He does that whether he plays 10 or 90 minutes."

On Arsenal: "I would like to be in the position Arsenal are in. I would love that. It is what it is. Now it's about Bayern Munich."

  6. 'This was the game for Haaland'published at 19:39 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-4 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "Southampton were incredible in the first half, really organised. We were a little sloppy, we were fortunate to score on the edge of the first half but the second half was much, much better.

"They kept fighting and were a good opponent for us. It was not easy, sometimes you have to give credit to the opponent. I have a respect for them."

On De Bruyne: "Kevin is playing at that level. He was involved in many things. He is exceptional. There are players who need to play at 40% but he is a guy who needs to play for every action at a high, high level.

"When one player has this 80-90% intensity and ability to see the passes he is more calm than the ones at 40%. He is an exceptional player."

On Haaland: "I think our bosses bought him for this type of game, we are uncomfortable and not playing at our best level but he gets the goal. The second you can't imagine at his height he has this ability. Exceptional goal."

  7. De Bruyne 'proud' to reach 100 assistspublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-4 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, talking to Sky Sports: "I was talking to James Ward-Prowse at the end, they always play good, they just sometimes miss a striker. For half an hour we had it tough, then we had chances and thankfully scored the goal. We played really well in the second half. The goal we conceded was soft, but we played really well.

"The play really good football, they press well and are compact. They are a good side."

On reaching 100 Premier League assists: "I saw it before the game. A lot of people were talking about it online. It is something you can't really miss. I just tried to create as much as possible. I could have had two or three more. If they score I get the assist. Of course I am proud. I am known for my creativity, there aren't many football players who have been there. Half of the side is mine and half of the side is the other. It is a proud moment but I have to go on."

On doing it 56 games quicker than Cesc Fabregas: "I don't compare. Cesc is an unbelievable footballer player. I don't compare myself to others. I just try and do the best I can do. People will talk about quicker. Everything is different, you play different positions and teams. We score a lot of goals!"

On Erling Haaland: "He scores a lot of goals. It is insane. He is there. If we create chances he is there. It is a good combination. He knows what I want to do and I know what he wants to do."

On whether he will watch Arsenal tomorrow: "To be fair I want to see my family a little bit. They are going on holiday for Easter so I'd prefer to see my family for a little bit before they go away. There won't be a lot of time to watch the game."
