    • Everton have scored in each of their past nine Premier League games against Manchester United. They have never scored in 10 consecutive league games against the Red Devils, while it's also Man Utd's longest current run without a clean sheet against a Premier League opponent.
    • After failing to win six consecutive Premier League games in the Saturday 12.30 kick-off slot last season (D2 L4), Manchester United have won all three such games so far this term, most recently beating Manchester City 2-1 in January.
    • Everton have won just two of their past 31 Premier League away games (D9 L20), picking up 2-1 wins at Leicester (May 2022) and Southampton (October 2022). The Toffees have also kept just two clean sheets in this run, goalless draws against Watford (May 2022) and Fulham (October 2022).

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking pre-match about Bruno Fernandes' deeper role: "Yeah, and [he played there] against Newcastle and against Fulham. We are missing Casemiro, we are missing Eriksen so we have to sort out things to have a great balance in the middle and I think Bruno is doing a good job there.

On Eriksen's return: "It is a very big boost. The midfield often decides the game so we missed him, we are happy he is back and hopefully he is in form.

On dealing with Ellis Sims: "Yes, but we know what he is. We have seen him. It's a lively striker and definitely a great intensity. The manager is doing a great job. They are really strong and in survival mode so we have to play the best to get the best result we can."

Everton will end today back in the relegation zone if they lose and Nottingham Forest avoid defeat given Leicester and Bournemouth are playing each other and one of them will have more than 27 points at the end of the day.

However, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has noticed an upward trend in results since Sean Dyche's arrival as manager.

"They have shown a clear improvement in their results and performances in recent weeks," the Dutchman says in his programme notes.

"The fact they have battled to take five points from games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham shows we will have no option but to fight for every single ball this afternoon."

I think goals is a problem. I think they're a long way behind City and Arsenal at the top of the table goals-wise, and I think there's players there to score goals. We know how well Marcus has done this year, I think he can get 20-25 [Premier League] goals hopefully this season.

But you look at the others, you think Jadon [Sancho], you think Antony and Garnacho. You've got to try and get them up to 10-15 goals if you're going to have a team that can challenge for a league title.

When I was playing, the four strikers you're looking at getting between 70 and 80 goals between them. If Marcus is doing that on his own and the others aren't chipping in it's very difficult. You've got Martial as well who I think if he's fit, which is a very big if because the lad can't stay fit, I think you've got 20-25 goals in him as well if he can play a full season.

I do think [Ten Hag] will go into the transfer market and he also needs to try and get more out of his wide players.

  5. How Ronaldo 'might have rubbed off' on Rashfordpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Man Utd v Everton (12:30 BST)

Marcus Rashford's incredible form for Manchester United could be one positive of Cristiano Ronaldo's ill-fated second spell at the club, argues ex-England full-back Stephen Warnock.

Rashford scored to see off Brentford on Wednesday night and Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast that training alongside Ronaldo might have inspired the United top goalscorer.

"Ronaldo might have rubbed off on him," said Warnock. "Rashford will have seen what hard work and dedication can lead to but then it's down to him to do it so huge credit to him for wanting to get better.

"Once Ronaldo was moved out, Rashford became the main man and a lot can crumble having that weight and expectation on their shoulders. He's embraced it."

Beyond Ronaldo, Warnock also praised boss Erik ten Hag and his staff for their influence on Rashford.

"The manager and his staff have created the right atmosphere," he said. "They have worked with him physically and mentally, and he has come on leaps and bounds."

    • Since the Premier League returned after the World Cup, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has more Premier League goals than any other player (11). Indeed, it’s more than three teams have managed in that time – Crystal Palace (9), Bournemouth (9) and Southampton (10).
    • Across Europe’s top-five leagues in all competitions, only Erling Haaland (42) and Kylian Mbappe (31) have scored more goals this season than Man Rashford (28).
    • In all competitions, Rashford has scored 19 goals at Old Trafford this season for United, the most by a Red Devils player on home soil since 2011-12 (Wayne Rooney, also 19 goals).
    • Rashford has scored 10 winning goals in the Premier League this season, the most by a United player in a season since Wayne Rooney in 2009-10 (also 10).

This is Harry Maguire's first Premier League start since Manchester United's 12 February win at Leeds.

Maguire was overlooked in favour of Victor Lindelof when United manager Erik ten Hag brought on a central defensive reinforcement against Brentford on Wednesday.

There are doubts over Maguire remaining at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season but for now, the England man has a significant role to play.

  15. All going onpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

It's rare that you have eight top-flight games on a Saturday but that's what we have in store today.

Once that encounter at Old Trafford is taken care of, there are six matches at 3pm. Yes, SIX.

We wrap things up with a trip to St Mary's, where Manchester City are the visitors.

In another rarity, all eight of Saturday's games have some importance to one of the three races - title, top four and relegation - currently ongoing in the Premier League. There's not a duff clash amongst them.

  16. First up...published at 11:23 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Man Utd v Everton (12:30 BST)

Our lunchtime game in the Premier League sees Everton travel to Manchester United.

For the Toffees, it is all about scraping enough points to stay up. I suspect they'd snap your hand off for a point if offered.

As for the Red Devils, they're looking to nab a top-four spot that isn't looking quite as secure as it did a few weeks ago. They got back on track midweek with a win over Brentford, but prior to that they'd gone three games without a win or a goal.

  17. Glad to be back?published at 11:19 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Judging by the reaction, Chelsea fans seem pretty happy with Lampard's return. How much of that is relief at no longer having poor Graham Potter as boss, though? They definitely didn't like him. But they do like Frank.

Now, I'm not going to be waxing lyrical about the genius of Frank Lampard. This isn't BT. Besides, I suspect that might have plenty of fans scoffing, not least of all at Everton, who he left in a somewhat precarious position earlier this campaign.

He can do the Toffees a big favour this afternoon, though. The first game of his return sees them visit Wolves - one of Everton's rivals in the vast battle at the bottom of the Premier League.

We'll get to that in due course. Before then, Everton themselves are in action. And they have a pretty big task on their hands.

What are Chelsea doing re-appointing Frank Lampard as manager?!

    Frank LampardImage source, Getty Images

But no, seriously, they do need someone in to steady the ship.

Someone who knows the club, fans, some of the players and the stadium too, apparently. Lampard certainly knows his way around Stamford Bridge, although he won't be there today. What he will be doing is trying to mop up after the muddled thinking that left the Blues having to sack a manager for the second time this season.
