    That didn't take long!

Bukayo Saka drives into space and finds Martin Odegaard. He slips it through the middle and it bounces off Virgil van Dijk, into Gabriel Martinelli, who pokes it past Alisson.

It's a scrambling effort but Martinelli's touch was timed to perfection. What a start for the league leaders!

It’s pretty hectic in that midfield. There’s no space at all.

Both teams have been organised and I can see by the body language of the players they are all on it.

  3. 'We aren't clear of the relegation zone'published at 16:37 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 1-5 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson to the BBC: "Sam Johnstone made some very good saves and that is to his great credit because he hasn't played a lot of matches. There is no doubt the fast start from Leeds, their aggression, it looked as if it would be a very tough afternoon but we did get through at period. At half-time the players sorted things out and we were much better in the second half.

"This was a good day. They won't be good days forever. If I was a younger, less cynical person I might be enjoying it more than I am because have an eye that we aren't clear of the relegation zone. I have to make certain the good things we did today we reproduce.

"In the second half we dominated in terms of the physical and running. It was a very, very encouraging performance. It is very hard in this league to win two in a row. We will congratulate ourselves on that but I hope the players understand you can't just relax and enjoy this until you are out of the mire."

Jordan Henderson's cross comes to Mohamed Salah on the edge of the box but he can't get a shot off.

Cody Gakpo then cuts in from the left but his curling effort is always sailing over.

  5. 'The worst moment since my arrival'published at 16:36 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 1-5 Crystal Palace

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Javi Gracia, speaking to BBC Sport: "We did a very good first half where we had the chance to kill the game if we took the chances we had. Of course conceding the goal before half-time changed the game and after 1-1 we didn't start at the same level as the first. Then the game was really tough for us. Palace has very good players to play with spaces and they killed us.

"The second half is the worst moment from my arrival because in the rest of the games, and today in the first half, we have competed always."

  8. 'Not a magic wand situation'published at 16:33 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 1-5 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson told Sky Sports: "The second half was very good in every respect. We had to weather a storm in the first half. We were struggling to come to terms with it. We got that equaliser which was worth its weight in gold.

“The second half was a different performance. We had a lot of control. The quality of players we have profited from the spaces opening in front of us. Leeds are an attacking side and players can’t be in two places at once.

"At half-time we were able to talk together and make it clear we needed more aggression. Leeds were more aggressive in the first half. We were being pegged back by that type of play. The players happily accepted it and did it in the second half. We earned the right to play some of that football.

"If I had to single out someone who doesn’t a lot of praise it would be Jordan Ayew. His work-rate helped us enormously. It put out a marker."

On what has changed since his arrival: "All you can do as a coach is give people the confidence to do the things you can see in training and not be affected by the noise outside and that things aren’t going your way. It’s not a magic wand type of situation.

"These players were good before I came to the club and they’re showing it again.

"It’s a perfect start. The training has been fantastic, the sun has been shining. It’s nice to be back. Everything couldn’t be better so far but I know there are different types of days ahead and one day I’ll be answering very different questions [after bad results]. I have to enjoy these moments as they won’t last forever."

This game is the one. This is the one that could start to make people believe Arsenal will win the league, because there are still doubters.

This could be a defining moment in Arsenal's pursuit of the Premier League title.

Anfield has brought them so many moments of misery in recent years that if they come away from here with a point - or in the ideal scenario three - today the Gunners will have every right to believe they are on course to become Premier League champions for the first time since 2003-04.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to Sky Sports: "We will have to be at our best, be strongly competitive and good in both boxes.

"We know the dynamism and competition that is required when you play here. It's true that we haven't won here [for a while] so that's an opportunity.

"There is a long game for sure so there will be opportunities to change personnel."

Liverpool have won their last six home meetings with Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Gunners last won a league match at Anfield in 2012 when current manager Mikel Arteta was in the team.

This is the ninth time Arsenal have faced Liverpool in the Premier League while top of the league (W3, D3, L2), with the previous eight games producing a total of 33 goals.

  19. 'The second half was very bad'published at 16:17 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 1-5 Crystal Palace

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Javi Gracia to Sky Sports: "It's unbelievable after that first half we had to finish like that. We dominated the first half and created many chances. We could have finished the game.

"After we conceded before half-time everything changed. We started very bad in the second half and didn't perform as well."

On what he said at half-time: "We had to improve the things we did. We needed to defend the set-pieces better. Keep going the same way because the first-half performance was good. The goalkeeper did very good saves. To keep going because we did many things well.

"When we conceded the second goal, Palace played really well with the spaces. They have very good players to run, to counter and to defend. Palace were really tough for us.

"We have to be really disappointed because the second half was very bad, the result as well is difficult to accept. It's only a game. We try to keep a positive mentality for the next game.

"There's only one way, to work hard and try to understand why we conceded this result today and to try to come back as soon as possible to all the things we've been doing well.

"We try to work hard this week to prepare for the next game. I'd like to give the fans a better performance and result."

It's all going very well for Arsenal so far this season and they are aiming to win an eighth Premier League game in a row.

They are currently on the longest winning streak by a top-flight club this season and have won their last three away from home.

Arsenal have a great record on the road this season too, picking up 14 wins (three more than any other Premier League side) and keeping nine clean sheets.
