  2. Today's actionpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

As games to kick off a bumper Saturday of Premier League action go, Villa v Newcastle is pretty decent. Especially Unai Emery's current Villa against Eddie Howe's present Newcastle.

It is, though, only the first of seven games we have to bring you today. That septet of matches showcase the jostling for European places and a relegation battle before concluding with an important clash for one title-chasing side and another with a debutant boss desperately looking for salvation.

It all gets under way at 12:30 BST, so do what you need to do before then and then settle down for another football rollercoaster ride.

In the Premier League form table, no side has taken more points from the last five games than Newcastle.

The Magpies are only one of three teams to have taken more than Villa in that time (the other two are both challenging for the title).

If you'd asked either at the start of the season if they had European qualification aspirations they would likely have told you it would be very nice but to stop getting ahead of yourself.

    But here we are.

This lunchtime, they meet at Villa Park. They've not dropped a point between them in eight games. Something has to give.
