Something very wrong with the set up for Newcastle. Not sure why Gordon is in midfield and not Longstaff. They’re by passing our press but surely Howe would have predicted that. I think he’s been out thought. Something fundamentally wrong. Need to keep it one nil until half time. Another two one victory like last week :)

Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
A completely one-sided half, in Villa's favour. They've been excellent.
That it is only 1-0, though, provide hope for Newcastle and plants just that bit of doubt in home minds - 'we really should have put this to bed'.

The last 10, 15 minutes have calmed down and that suits Newcastle.
Both teams are waiting for half time. I'm fascinated to see what Eddie Howe changes.

Re. Jonny at 13:11 - fair to say that teams have been doing that to Newcastle pretty often this season. Not a lot wrong with Villa right now.

Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
There will be two added minutes at the end of this half.
Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Bruno Guimaraes is set up for a shot he curls tamely wide.
The flag goes up soon after, though, with Kieran Trippier having run offside ahead of supplying a low cross.
Newcastle need a big rethink at the break.
Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Big shouts for handball as John McGinn's attempted cross is blocked by Kieran Trippier. It did hit the Newcastle defender's arm, but they were purposefully down by his sides, with his hands behind his back.
The referee rightly waves away the appeals.
Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Sven Botman with a very necessary interception. He sticks out a boot to stop a pass from Emi Buendia setting Ollie Watkins in behind the Newcastle defence.

Prince: Villa has a right to go all out on Newcastle. Emery declined this Newcastle job before Howe was picked. He has a lot to prove. Remember.
Jonny: Come on Newcastle. We're making this very average (albeit in form) Villa side look way better than they actually are
Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
It is not working for Newcastle.
They get hold of the ball for a bit but Anthony Gordon ruins it by drifting offside on the left ahead of receiving the ball.

This is giving me nostalgic vibes of the team when we were managed by MON. Emery definitely the best manager since those days. Can see Villa seeing this through

Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Alexander Isak thinks he should have a free-kick after a coming together with Ezri Konsa near halfway. The referee disagrees.

The one thing u don't want to be doing is missing your opportunities, as Newcastle will punish u sooner, if not later... take it from a Man Utd fan!

Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Nick Pope does really well to leave his area and head away with Jacob Ramse charging to connect with the ball. The keeper takes a clattering for his trouble.
It sets up a Newcastle counter that ends with Joelinton firing a shot that is blocked and Bruno Guimaraes catching Emi Buendia.

Newcastle have been really smart with thier transfers under new ownership, but I will never understand the hype that surrounded Gordon.

Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
As I've already suggested, though. Don't go ruling Newcastle out yet. Not one bit. They put in a pretty poor first-half showing at Brentford last weekend, but turned that one around.
Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Newcastle are struggling to get a kick. They're second to so many 50/50 challenges.
Aston Villa 1-0 Newcastle
Certainly is, Rachel. And it's not just the setup and ability on the ball either. They're quicker to every ball. They're outmuscling and working a side who love to put a shift in.

Rachel T: The transformation of Villa is truly remarkable
Prince Gyimah: Unai Emery has really transformed this Villa side. It's interesting how Gerrard couldn't do much with these lots.
