Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic are two sides looking to hold on... but their stories could not be more different.

The Blades occupy the second and last of the automatic-promotion spots and will be looking to build a seven-point gap to third place after Luton drew Millwall in the early game today.

Wigan are in more of a hang-on-for-your-life cliff-hanger scenario, as they dangle five points adrift at the bottom of the table.

The Latics ended an eight-game winless run with victory against an out-of-sorts QPR side last time out, but can they produce their first win away from home in the league since October against the high-flying Blades?

That has probably finished Albion. It's a dejected team in green and yellow at this moment in time.

It's a big, big ask to get anything out of this game now.

You can make excuses about them losing players to injury but I think Rotherham have worked much harder this afternoon.

    Tariqe Fosu-Henry (76mins)

    That may well be that!

Brentford loanee Tariqe Fosu-Henry has found the net for the first time this season and what a time to do it.

The midfielder plays a one-two from his own corner and drives into the box before smashing a shot into the roof of the net.

Rotherham look set to leapfrog QPR into 18th and move five points clear of the bottom three - ahead of the 3pm kick-offs.

    QPR v Preston (15:00 BST)

Queens Park Rangers have been dropping like a stone, with eight defeats in nine outings leaving the Hoops just three points above the relegation zone.

A six-point deduction has seen Reading dragged into the mix at the bottom, but the R's need results fast.

Not even the return of Gareth Ainsworth has helped - with one win and five defeats since he was appointed boss - and the west Londoners have won just one of their past 11 games at home.

Preston travel to Loftus Road on the back of three wins in four and sit five points off the play-offs.

However, the Lilywhites have lost top scorer Ched Evans to "a serious medical condition" which was caused by "repeated high force contact".

Rotherham United 2-1 West Bromwich Albion

Home form could be crucial if Rotherham want to spend another season in the Championship.

They've picked up 26 points of their 41 at the New York Stadium and if they can hold on here, it will be a fourth home win in seven.

The Millers' last two stays in the second tier have lasted just one season.

The Baggies have 20 minutes plus stoppage time to respond.

Reading have been plunged into the relegation battle after being handed a six-point penalty by the EFL on Tuesday for failing to adhere to a business plan.

That deduction has seen the Royals drop two places in the table to 20th, and Paul Ince's men are now a solitary point above the bottom three.

The side are out of form, too, having gone six games without a win - although they have drawn their past two.

Royals fans will be desperate for an upturn against a Birmingham side who are virtually assured of a place in the second tier following a run of three wins in four.

  7. Still to come...published at 14:32 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

With one game already down and another almost done, there are still 10 to come and about another seven hours of Championship coverage to look forward to.

So let's quickly rattle through what is to come at 15:00 BST...

There is a huge battle between Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City in the ever intensifying race for the play-offs.

Sixth-placed Blackburn may have lost two on the spin coming into this one, but they have won their past four home games. Norwich are doing the chasing in seventh spot and will need to end a four-game winless run to close that four-point gap to Rovers.

With seven games remaining, many sides at the top and bottom are playing a games of high stakes.

Play-off chasing Watford, who are six points adrift of the top six, face a Huddersfield side that start the day in the relegation places on goal difference.

Cardiff City, the side that are just ahead of the Terriers, travel to second-from-bottom Blackpool in what pretty much defines a 'relegation six-pointer'.

For those that love a stat, play-off chasing Coventry head to Swansea today looking for their first win there since 1950. If they manage it, they will ensure they very much stay in the top-six picture.

    • Queens Park Rangers v Preston North End
    • Reading v Birmingham City
    • Sheffield United v Wigan Athletic

Rotherham United 2-1 West Bromwich Albion

The visitors are on the front foot after their triple change.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman drives a low cross from the right into Daryl Dike, but the striker fails to make a telling contact.

West Brom have scored just three goals in their past five matches and failed to score once in a match during that run.

They'll need that to change sharpish.

Millwall had the better of the chances. Luton were better in the second half but had to withstand some late pressure and it's hard-earned point for Rob Edwards' side.

It's a decent point. Luton would have settled for a point at kick-off and a point is what they've got.

West Brom coach Carlos Corberan has seen enough and makes an attacking triple change on the hour.

    Millwall 0-0 Luton

The two play-off challengers take a point each after a match of few clear chances.

Luton move up to third in the table, a point ahead of Middlesbrough, after extending their unbeaten run to eight Championship games.

Fifth-placed Millwall are now five clear of the chasing pack ahead of the rest of the day's fixtures - but the Lions have gone three games without a goal or a win.

This result means Burnley could be promoted to the Premier League in the evening kick-off.

A 90th-minute free-kick for Millwall just outside the box on the right, and George Saville's delivery is headed away by the first defender.

Then Jake Cooper goes down under pressure from Tom Lockyer while waiting for a ball lumped forward to drop down.

Referee Darren England says no penalty.

There will be four added minutes...

West Brom only have themselves to blame for falling behind after some ordinary defending at the set-piece.

They look to make instant amends as Brandon Thomas-Asante turns in the box and fires a shot goalward. But it's straight at Viktor Johansson.

Then it almost gets worse for the visitors as a Joshua Griffiths save denies Jordan Hugill his hat-trick.

The striker races onto Leo Hjelde's ball over the top and his volley forces the keeper into a strong save.

He's only got one league goal since joining the Hatters last season.

Millwall respond by bringing on Jamie Shackleton for Ryan Leonard after the midfielder picked up an injury.

Another set piece and another headed goal from Jordan Hugill!

Four minutes to go plus stoppages in south-east London.

Millwall have been pushing, with a corner pinging around in the Luton area and then claims of a penalty from home fans after some pushing from a long thrown.

Eventually a long ball forward by Ryan Leonard drifts out of play.

Jordan Hugill has had a free header once again to put Rotherham in the lead. Terrible defending from West Brom's point of view.

That's two free headers he's had for both goals - that's criminal.

Hugill must think it's his birthday.
