Amad Diallo beats Karl Darlow with the power of his spot-kick and Sunderland level in this topsy-turvy game.

The Hull goalkeeper reads where Diallo will send it, and gets a touch on it as he dives to his left.

But it's not enough as Diallo - on loan from Manchester United - makes it 3-3.

    Sunderland 2-3 Hull

Jack Clarke skips into the area on the left and Alfie Jones bundles him to the ground.

It's a clear penalty and Sunderland have the chance to restore parity from the spot.

    Sunderland 2-3 Hull

That goal to put Hull City ahead for the second time today very much came against the run of play.

The crazy way it was scored, however, is very much keeping with how this game has gone so far.

  6. goal

GOAL: Sunderland 2-3 Hull Citypublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

    Regan Slater (66 mins)

Hull are back ahead - but Trai Hume will not want to see replays of this one.

Somehow he fails to see the ball dead at the byeline, allowing Regan Slater to get around him.

Slater then drifts towards goal and fires past Anthony Patterson from a tight angle.

    Sunderland 2-2 Hull

Sunderland haven't got their set-pieces working yet, and they are no doubt ruing the fact.

Again a deep free-kick from the right is dealt with by Hull, with Lewie Coyle the man to get a decisive header on it before Karl Darlow claims the ball.

The Hull defender appears to have done some damage dealing with it as well.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 58 mins

    Sunderland 2-2 Hull

We have the first change of the day with Hull's Dimitrios Pelkas replaced by Greg Docherty.

    Sunderland 2-2 Hull

The set-pieces keep coming for Sunderland.

Hull fail to properly clear one from the left and the ball falls for Dan Neil at the top of the box.

His volley is a dipping one, but it flashes wide.

    Sunderland 2-2 Hull

Nope, Patrick Roberts tries to lift his free-kick to the back post.

He puts too much on it and it's easily plucked from the air by Karl Darlow. Not a hint of danger in that delivery.

    Sunderland 2-2 Hull

Amad Diallo is chopped down on the right edge of the box.

Sunderland may want to go direct for this... Patrick Roberts stands over it.

Sunderland have a free-kick in a dangerous position wide on the right.

It's swung into the mixer, but is easily defused.

The hosts finished the first half strong and are looking the most dangerous right now.

Less than a minute later, Joe Gelhardt blazes a chance a long way over the bar.

These two managers are just the coolest looking chaps in the land right now.

Hull boss Liam Rosenior stolls to the touchline to give a few instructions, while Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has hands in his pockets as he potters about.

I wonder how calm they were at the break after the thrills that were served up.

    HT: Sunderland 2-2 Hull

A reminder that while we are into our seventh hour of Championship coverage today, there is still a cherry on the cake to come when leaders Burnley face automatic promotion-chasing Middlesbrough.

Results earlier today means it could be a huge night for Vincent Kompany's Clarets, who can seal their return to the Premier League with victory.

    HT: Sunderland 2-2 Hull

Sunderland will want to make sure they stay in touch of the play-off spots today, while Hull know a victory is needed if they are to stand any chance of a top-six finish.

That is no doubt the recipe for a second-half thriller at the Stadium of Light.

I say thriller, having already been treated to some truly wonderful theatre already.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2023

The advantage lasted less than three minutes with Allahyar Sayyadmanesh restoring parity for the visitors.

    Sunderland 2-2 Hull

For the second time today Sunderland clatter the woodwork with a cross.

This time Luke O'Nien whips a dipping ball in and it hits the near post. The ball in looked more impatient than anything else.
