Forest Green relegated to League Two

    BBC West Sport

Ian Burchnall was brought in to take charge, a coach cut from the same cloth as Edwards - young, up-and-coming and forward-thinking.

But the club's transfer policy lacked strategy and of seven of the 10 players brought in made fewer than 12 appearances.

The squad was also decimated by injuries the first half of the season and since they fell to the bottom of the table in mid-November they have not moved.

Burchnall was eventually let go at the end of January after only five wins in 28 games, with Vince admitting they had not done enough to support his inexperience.

Forest Green relegated to League Two

Forest Green's first foray into League One has been more of a nightmare than the fairytale the Gloucestershire club dreamed it might be.

Owner Dale Vince hoped it would be the stepping stone to eventually progressing up to the Championship.

Instead, the club have been relegated straight back to the fourth tier at the first time of asking.

As one of the smallest clubs in the division, survival was always going to be tough - yet the seeds of Rovers' fate were probably sown last summer when they secured that historic promotion.

Head coach Rob Edwards left unexpectedly for Watford, key players such as Ebou Adams, Kane Wilson and Nicky Cadden all departed - and director of football Richard Hughes also had one foot out of the door, before eventually leaving in September.

While Leyton Orient are on the cusp of League One as it stands, one side who are definitely going to swap places with them are Forest Green Rovers.

This is the story behind their slip out of the division in 2022-23.

Let's take a second's breather, and we'll bring you some headlines from across the EFL.

    Stand by...

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Stoke 1-2 West Brom

Jayson Molumby's second-half double turns this one around for West Bromwich Albion, who had earlier trailed to a Jacob Brown header.

The game was heavily delayed after injuries to Stoke defender Ben Wilmot and West Brom striker Daryl Dike.

Ben Pearson's sending-off late on was a further fly in the ointment for Alex Neil's Potters.

  9. RED CARD - Pearson (Stoke)published at 17:07 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Stoke 1-2 West Brom

This afternoon has totally collapsed for Stoke, who led a lead slip and are now set to finish with 10 men, after Ben Pearson is dismissed for a second bookable offence.

  10. Postpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Stoke 1-2 West Brom

Seven minutes of added time in a game delayed by numerous injuries in the first-half.

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Blackpool 1-0 Wigan

Blackpool take the spoils from this battle of the scrappers at the bottom of the Championship, as an early goal from Jerry Yates condemns Wigan to defeat.

It gives the Seasiders a chance to reduce the gap on the teams above them outside the bottom three, but for the Latics, the outlook is especially gloomy.

They're eight points behind Cardiff in 21st and have an inferior goal difference to everyone in the mix.

  12. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Blackpool 1-0 Wigan

    Can't fault Wigan's effort.

James McClean can only rap his shot into the side-netting though, while Josh Magennis' header sails over.

All the while, the Latics are on course for defeat though. Gutting for their survival hopes.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Swansea 1-0 Huddersfield

Ryan Manning's goal secures all three points for the Swans, who are comfortable in mid-table.

Huddersfield's mini-revival is halted as they must keep looking over their shoulders.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Rotherham 0-2 Luton

Big win for Rob Edwards' Luton, who go back up to third and make it 10 unbeaten on the spin with victory over Rotherham.

Goals from Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow are enough to deliver the points, and a crucial win.

It's the first time they've gone on such a run since May 1982, when David Pleat's side featuring Brian Stein, Ricky Hill and Raddy Antic won the Division Two title.

That might be beyond them, but promotion certainly isn't.

Rotherham's loss keeps them looking over their shoulders just, but there's a few teams still worse off.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Sunderland 2-1 Birmingham

That's a huge win for Sunderland as they stay in the play-off picture.

They did it the hard way, having to come from behind after George Hall's opener for Birmingham, but goals from Trai Hume and Amad Diallo in either half, gave them the three points.

They're now one point behind sixth-placed Coventry.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Millwall 2-0 Preston

Millwall take all three points in the battle of the play-off chasers.

A goal in each half from Tom Bradshaw and Zian Flemming sees the Lions cement their place in fifth.

    Preston drop to eighth.

  17. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Watford 2-0 Bristol City

Watford seal victory against Bristol City and the busy hunt for a play-off spot heats up in the Championship.

Harry Cornick's own goal and Joao Pedro's goal ensures the Hornets take the three points.

  18. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    QPR 0-3 Coventry

Huge result for Coventry in West London.

Two for Viktor Gyokeres and one from Gustavo Hamer has Coventry in the top six ahead of the Blackburn game later this evening.

Another horrendous afternoon for QPR and Gareth Ainsworth.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Reading 0-0 Burnley

Burnley already had the champagne on ice regards the Championship title this afternoon after Middlesbrough's win earlier and that will certainly have melted by the time they get back to Lancashire, after this stalemate with a game Reading.

Noel Hunt's side came up with a real display of courage against the leaders, but get just a point.

Results elsewhere have largely gone their way as it stands with defeats for Cardiff and Huddersfield, so it's a positive afternoon for the Royals.
