    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

The free-kick is a disappointment. Hull come away through centre-half Jacob Greaves, channelling Bobby Moore, Franz Beckenbauer...

He's cool, calm, collected. He's put it out for a throw.

    It started well, anyway.

    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

Plenty of width being offered and utilised by Blackburn but they can't make the final moment stick.

Hull break, it's a throughball for Harry Vaughan to chase, but the youngster is muscled out.

Wants a free-kick and gets nowt.

Lewie Coyle then sends Sammie Szmodics sprawling with a robust challenge and it's a Blackburn free-kick outside the box.

    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

Blackburn look for a crossfielder which sets Ben Brereton Diaz away down the left, but Lewie Coyle blocks his shot, and the second attempt wins a corner.

The set-piece is poor, and Hull play out from the back.

    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

Hull get a chance, as Regan Slater snaffles a loose ball and passes to the lively Ozan Tufan.

Tufan sets off toward goal but as he pulls the trigger, he can only drag it wastefully wide.

    Poor finish.

Something Blackburn are renowned for is keeping possession in the back third.

Hull won't come out that easy, they're just going to sit back. You've got to move forward with the ball.

    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

Blackburn get in behind, Sam Gallagher prods the ball into the channel for Lewis Travis.

He chases it, composes himself and centres, but Sean McLoughlin dives in and cuts it out.

    Blackburn 0-0 Hull

Enterprising start from Blackburn, who are snapping the ball about with one-touch, sharp football.

It's responded to by an enthusiastic press from Hull.

Bodes well for a decent night's work.

Huge credit to the Hull fans for schlepping across to this game, by the way.

Any trip over the Pennines along the M62 is fraught with road closures late on, so let's hope their journey home isn't a stressful and slow one...

It must burn Rovers fans to see their fierce rivals Burnley at the top of the Championship, but at least their side have a chance to join them in the top flight next season.

One of the key factors in that is their impressive home form. Only the Clarets with 51 points have picked up more at home this season than Rovers' 40.

Hull haven't won in their last seven away matches by contrast, so it could be a tricky one for the Tigers. Albeit, they drew 4-4 in a thriller at Sunderland last time out on their travels.

Having won 19 but lost 16 in the Championship overall this campaign, Blackburn are not a team for your pools coupon.

You would imagine Hull City's project under Liam Rosenior should continue beyond this season barring a severe tail-off in form.

In a season where optimism has flourished thanks to enthusiastic ownership by Acun Ilicali, results didn't go their way under Shota Arveladze but Rosenior has restored faith from fans and there is a positive stance.

Last Monday's home win over promotion-chasing Millwall highlighted the potential which exists at the MKM Stadium these days, and Rosenior admits his eyes are on the future but not in a token way.

"When I'm speaking about building for next season, it's more the style," Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside.

"I'm not going to throw young players in for the sake of it, I'm going to pick my strongest team for every single game."

Jon Dahl Tomasson's Blackburn have dipped off form-wise at just the wrong time as the Championship season edges towards its climax.

Three defeats followed by a draw on Easter Monday have seen Rovers drop out of the top six as it stands after Coventry's win at QPR this afternoon.

However, the Dane is enjoying working with his squad and the challenge of battling for promotion.

"There's a lot of games, a lot of important games," Tomasson told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I think the league is great. I'm enjoying every minute. It makes me confident for the future and a bright future for Rovers."

With the dust settled on the 15:00 BST kick-offs in the Championship and the rest of the EFL, attentions now turn to the late game of the day.

    Championship relegation battle

    Championship bottom-10

Rotherham's home loss to Luton means they still could yet be dragged into the mire.

Defeats for Huddersfield, QPR and Cardiff mean the bottom-half has not been affected by movements, while Reading's draw with leaders Burnley and Blackpool's win over bottom side Wigan offer some faint hope.

    Championship promotion race

    Championship top 10

Burnley add a point to their tally but hopes of beating Reading's 106-point record are up - they can only equal it with five straight wins.

Sheffield United keep a welcome buffer over Luton with their lunchtime win over Cardiff, telling as the Hatters saw off Rotherham this afternoon.

Big win for Millwall keeps them in the hunt, Blackburn are still to play, taking on Hull tonight, but are temporarily as it stands unseated from the top-six by Coventry.

Sunderland aren't out of it either, after their 2-1 home win over Birmingham.

  19. Leyton Orient not quite therepublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    #bbcefl

Leyton Orient are almost up, but not quite. Here's why.

They now have 84 points. Only Stevenage, Northampton and Bradford can obtain more points than that.

But Northampton and Bradford have to play each other. If that was a draw, the maximum the Cobblers and Bantams could get is 84 points - the same as the Os.

However, both sides have a worse goal difference than Orient as things stand, so it will take a very unlikely set of results to deny them promotion.

  20. Ferguson fails to turn ship aroundpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

Forest Green relegated to League Two

    Sophie Hurcom
    BBC West Sport

Duncan Ferguson, another first-time coach at this level, was surprisingly appointed with the nigh-on impossible job of turning things around.

He won just one of his first 10 games in charge and by early April the talk was subtly shifting towards thinking ahead to the next campaign.

Remarkably, though, this is the first relegation in Forest Green's history since the 1954-55 season - and their only relegation since 1889 - putting them on a par with the likes of Arsenal and Everton.

The challenge for Forest Green now will be to learn valuable lessons from this season and lay a more stable foundation so that if or when they move back up to League One, they'll be in a much better position to actually stay there.
