  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 70 mins

    Man Utd 3-1 Real Betis

Ooft. Betis get away with one and maybe so has Bruno Fernandes.

Claudio Bravo has to slide in to stop Fernandes pouncing on a poor pass back.

The goalkeeper gets there first and Fernandes catches him late, high on his shin. He is shown a yellow but there were appeals for a red.

Fernandes certainly had every right to go for it.

United are playing with confidence now. Lisandro Martinez skilfully cuts inside two players and there's shouts to "shooooooot" when Casemiro has it in the middle.

Fred does eventually but it's easy for Claudio Bravo.

It is really good play down that right-hand side. Antony plays a wonderful one-two with Bruno Fernandes and when you get into that position you feel you have to finish.

But if he could have looked to his left, he had Marcus Rashford, Fred and Wout Weghorst to square it to and that would have made it even more special.

On comes Jadon Sancho as Marcus Rashford has done his job, grabbing another goal.

Luke Shaw is replaced by Tyrell Malacia too.

  5. CLOSE!published at 64 mins

    Man Utd 3-1 Real Betis

This would have been a stunning goal.

It's the best passage of play by a mile. United move it up the right with smooth, one-touch passing before Antony is slipped in.

He has two players to his left but as Claudio Bravo runs off his line, he tries to chip him and lifts it over the bar.

    A huge miss.

Bruno Fernandes put his hands to his ears as he ran away to celebrate that goal as if to say 'what is it you are saying about me?'.

Fernandes copped most of the flak for the 7-0 defeat at Liverpool, with some arguing he should have the captaincy taken away from him.

Erik ten Hag dismissed that yesterday and now Fernandes has a goal and - from the reaction of the home supporters - has the fans onside as well.

Antony, again, cuts onto his left and drills it towards goal. It's just in front of Fred and Claudio Bravo gathers it in.

Betis haven't learned. Antony has been doing that all night and that's how his goal came about.

  9. 'Very simple but so effective'published at 21:19 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2023

Very simple from Manchester United, but so effective. The outswinger from Luke Shaw is delivered and Bruno Fernandes makes a simple run completely unmarked and it is a free header.

It is right at the goalkeeper and it might be power that beats Claudio Bravo in the end who could perhaps get his hands up quicker.

    Man Utd 3-1 Real Betis

Real Betis' playmaker Sergio Canales is on. He is returning from a hamstring injury otherwise he would definitely have started tonight.

He was ready to come on at 2-1 so his job has been made harder by that Bruno Fernandes goal.

    Bruno Fernandes (58 mins)

A big goal from the captain to make amends for his performance on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes peels off the defender and flicks a powerful header past Claudio Bravo from a corner.

The home fans chant "Bruno, Bruno, Bruno" as he celebrates in the corner.

Bruno Fernandes whips a great ball in from the right but Wout Weghorst can't get there.

    Man Utd 2-1 Real Betis

Casemiro and Fred link-up nicely but Marcus Rashford loses his balance near the touchline. He is frustrated but Erik ten Hag applauds encouragingly.

Wout Weghorst then goes in the book for retaliating when he's penalised. A bit of bite about United now.

Alright maybe I was wrong about Antony. Beautiful finish from the lad. I was hoping he was just taking his time to settle in and I've been disappointed at times but that was a stunner.

That is Antony's seventh goal for Manchester United.

The last four have all come in cup competitions, most recently against Barcelona here a fortnight ago.

It was a super strike too. See if United can build on it this time.

It is a terrific goal, it really is. We want more from Antony because he can frustrate and delight in equal measures within a game.

Sometimes he can be sloppy but when he does it right, it is out of the top drawer.

    Antony (51 mins)

    What a finish!

Bruno Fernandes lays it off to Antony on the right. He cuts onto his left foot and curls it perfectly into the far corner.

A lovely goal from Antony, who hasn't been great up to this point but has delivered when it matters.

Betis push high-up, putting pressure on United's backline and David de Gea, but United bring it out nicely.
