When you get that early goal you want to keep the opposition under pressure. To do that you have to be really precise in possession and not give easy possession away and that didn't happen and that is how Real Betis got back into the game.

There's no denying who finished the half stronger.

40.8% of the action was in the Manchester United third in the last 15 minutes, with Betis hitting the post in the process.

But Erik ten Hag's side had some huge chances earlier on and could easily have been 3-0 up before Ayoze Perez's excellent equaliser.

That goal from Betis was their first shot on target but it has changed the momentum slightly at Old Trafford.

Will those missed chances prove costly for United or can they produce more in the second half?

Real Betis have not come here to sit back, they have come to score goals. They have had a couple of opportunities that have primarily come from Manchester United errors.

Manchester United will be okay at half-time, they could have capitalised on a fast start and gone on to score more but Betis responded well.

David de Gea is yet to sign a Manchester United contract extension, even though his current one expires at the end of the season.

It has been repeatedly stressed it will get done but moments like that will not convince anyone the former Spain international is good enough with the ball at his feet to deliver what Erik ten Hag demands.

Diogo Dalot's cross takes a deflection, making it awkward for Claudio Bravo, who has already committed to a punch and it's clumsy.

Marcus Rashford controls it and tries to switch it but Betis intercept.

Manchester United have got away by a lick of paint. David de Gea keeps rolling passes and Real Betis are set up for it.

Ayoze Perez is trying to find a teammate and in doing so the ball is deflected right across the line as everyone stops and watches it hit the post.

My word. United have been let-off the hook.

David de Gea passes it straight to Juanmi. It comes to Ayoze Perez and his flick bounces off the post and misses a team-mate following up at the back post by inches!

Almost a brilliant assist from Marcus Rashford. He makes a smart run in behind, beats the defender for pace and pulls it back to Antony.

There's a crucial challenge from the centre-back before Claudio Bravo gathers it in. Rashford looked offside too.

Betis are controlling possession at the moment, frustrating United a little as they slow the tempo down.

Ayoze Perez can't keep the ball in play on the far side as the corner comes to nothing.

United try route one at the other end, sending it long for Anthony to chase.

I said earlier Manchester United needed a second and that is why.

Erik ten Hag stood on the touchline with his arms crossed, looking like he was seething at Real Betis' equaliser.

This game could have been over now. Instead, United need to recover in somewhat more coherent fashion than they managed at Liverpool.

Casemiro is penalised for climbing as he jumps over Ayoze Perez to win a header.

Betis won't rush the free-kick. Skipper Joaquin is stood over it.

That is a brilliant strike from Ayoze Perez, a sensational half-volley. We have seen some great strikes for Leicester but that will be right up there.

I said Real Betis wasn't going away, and when they get into a good position the ball is clipped out to Perez who takes one touch with his chest the second is a half-volley and it goes in off the post.

The Spanish fans are dancing in the snow.

There was a defeaning silence from the other half of the stadium when that went in.
