    Marcus Rashford (6 mins)

    This one does count!

Bruno Fernandes' cross is blocked in the box but it falls kindly for Marcus Rashford. He takes a touch to tee himself up then absolutely smashes it into the roof of the net.

What a finish, what a start and what a noise at Old Trafford.

The kind of early reaction Erik ten Hag was looking for.

Wout Weghorst puts it in for United but the flag is up for offside!

It's good build-up from United down the right but Fred is clearly offside when he curls it in for Weghorst, who chests it over the line.

Luke Shaw's curling cross is headed away and Fred can't keep it in play on the far side.

The Real Betis supporters are making a lot of noise to my right.

After beating Barcelona in the last round, Manchester United are strong favourites to get through to the last eight.

However, their European hopes have been ended by Spanish opposition in every season since they won the Europa League in 2017.

They have already been beaten by Real Sociedad at Old Trafford this season.

After Sunday's debacle, they cannot afford to lose again.

  11. 'We wanted to win but we didn't lose'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2023

    FT: Sporting Lisbon 2-2 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal defender William Saliba speaking to BT Sport: "Today it wasn't an easy game but we scored the first goal and then they brought it back to 1-1 and then made it 2-1.

"As always we never give up and we scored the second goal. We have a game back home and we will give everything to win.

"We conceded two goals and the most important thing is that we didn't lose and we have another game."

On playing with Jakub Kiwior for the first time: "It is his first game and he played well and we played well together but unfortunately we conceded two goals. We train a lot together because we change the pairs a lot in training."

On picking up a draw: "It is okay, we wanted to win here but we didn't lose and we have to focus on the next game and we are lucky to play at home. We will try to win again."

On Arsenal's mentality: "We know they can score but we know we can always come back and never give up. It is a good mentality from the team. It is always better to lead but when we don't we have to come back."

It's freezing in Manchester tonight and the players have just been warming up in a drizzle of snow.

Fair play to the fans who have come out tonight to support. It's a chilly one!

There's plenty of Real Betis fans who have travelled from Spain too.

  13. 'If they can do it, we can'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2023

Man Utd v Real Betis (20:00 GMT)

Manuel Pellegrini won three of his six meetings with United as City boss, including a 3-0 triumph at Old Trafford in 2014.

His Betis side, who are fifth in La Liga, topped their Europa League group, while United reached the last 16 by beating Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate in the play-off round.

United's last five European campaigns have ended with defeat to Spanish opposition - and they also lost to Real Sociedad in September in the group stage.

"I cannot know what they think but if Real Sociedad can do it, we can beat Manchester United also," said Pellegrini.

  14. Pogba dropped for Juvepublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2023

Juventus v SC Freiburg (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport reporter

Paul Pogba has been dropped for Juventus’ Europa League tie with Freiburg tonight for disciplinary reasons.

It is understood the former Manchester United midfielder was late for a team meeting on Wednesday and coach Max Allegri opted not to select Pogba in his squad.

It is the latest setback for the 29-year-old since he returned to the club from United last summer.

Pogba suffered a knee injury in pre-season but initially opted not to get an operation fearing it would rule him out of the World Cup.

In the end, Pogba needed surgery anyway and although he returned to the bench in January, he suffered another muscular problem that prevented him from making the first appearance of his second spell at Juve until 28 February.

He made his second substitute appearance in Sunday’s defeat at Roma.

Self-confessed Manchester City fan Manuel Pellegrini will lead his side out against United at Old Trafford tonight.

The 69-year-old Chilean spent three seasons in charge of City between 2013 and 2016 and he said he "could not believe" that United lost 7-0 to Liverpool on the weekend.

"It really was unbelievable. I missed six goals but I understood immediately what would happen," he said.

"Because of the rivalry [with Liverpool] and this amount of goals, I knew it would not be easy for them.

"But I was not very sad about what happened. I am a Man City fan as well."

It is good the way Erik ten Hag dealt with the Bruno Fernandes situation, saying everyone was at fault.

That gets everyone at the club pulling in the same direction.
