It is absolutely throwing it down here now.

I thought fourth official Anthony Taylor might be coming on at one point but he was just getting a bigger coat.

It doesn't seem to bother Erling Haaland though. He nearly scored a third.

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

So close to a third goal for Manchester City. Kyle Walker fires a volley across the face of goal from the right side of the penalty area, Riyad Mahrez strikes at goal and Bailey Peacock-Farrell, maybe not knowing too much about it, sees the ball bounce off his thigh and away.

Seconds later Erling Haaland is denied a hat-trick, this time the Burnley goalkeeper doing excellently to dive and save with his left arm.

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

A rare sight. Kevin de Bruyne making a mess of a free-kick, firing well over from just outside the penalty area.

  4. Postpublished at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

Since the Premier League was formed in 1992-93, Erling Haaland is the sixth top-flight player to score 40+ goals in all competitions in a single season.

    The full list...

    • 41 - Andrew Cole (Newcastle United) 1993-94

Erling Haaland is back out there with the rest of the City team for the second half. No changes for City, but a couple from Vincent Kompany with Ashley Barnes and Jack Cork on for Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Lyle Foster.

DaveH: Burnley goalie needs to change his shirt…. Hard to distinguish between him and the outfield players!!

  10. 'Ridiculously easy'published at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

In this form, Haaland is almost impossible to stop. He's got 41 goals already and Man City may have another 19 games.

He makes it look ridiculously easy.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

For most of the half, Burnley did well. But two goals in three minutes from Erling Haaland has put City in total control. Haaland now up to 41 goals for the season, with more than two months still to play.

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

A chance for Ian Maatsen in the final throws of the first half, but Stefan Ortega pushes it away.

  13. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

Kevin de Bruyne, as he always does, swings in a superb free-kick and somehow none of his team-mates get a touch to convert for what would've been 3-0. Ruben Dias was closest, sliding in, but can't get there in time.

There will be elements of this half Vincent Kompany will be delighted with, but both goals were avoidable.

They need to get to the break and regroup.

  15. Kompany's encouragementpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Vincent Kompany is clearly a very hard task master judging by the way he is driving home some messages to his defenders.

But he also quick to encourage his players and offer applause when he thinks they have done well.

Clearly, reaching the FA Cup semi-final is not the major aim for Burnley this season and there are some valuable lessons being learned here, even if the result is likely to go against them.

Shaun Rye: Haaland is an absolute goal machine!! Cares about nothing but getting goals. First one, he showed great athleticism and desire, and the second one was a real poacher's instinct, right place, right time

  17. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

Both sides have had two shots on target. The difference is Manchester City have Erling Haaland.

  18. 'Dreamland'published at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC One

If you are Erling Haaland you are in dreamland here.

Look where Burnley play, right on that half-way line. It is a straight race with the defenders and he is not slow.

  19. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

There were just 179 seconds between Erling Haaland's first two goals for Manchester City this evening.

  20. He's doing it againpublished at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

One Erling Haaland scored his first goal against Leipzig on Tuesday, he couldn't stop scoring.

There must be a sense of foreboding amongst Burnley ranks now given he ended up with five in midweek.

Of course, if City go through, that will be another game for him to play in.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility he gets to 60 this season. English football has not seen anything like this in a long, long time.
