So the 30-game unbeaten run is over.

It's a tough one to take but all good things must come to an end and England will hope to learn from this and make the necessary improvements in time for this summer's World Cup. Time will tell.

For now, the football juggernaut just keeps moving as the Women's Super League returns on Wednesday 19 April.

    We'll see you then!

Sarina Wiegman said her side will learn from this match but added that she will have to take some time to assess what went wrong in Brentford.

England were far from their best this evening and there are some things they will need to fix up pretty quickly ready for the World Cup in exactly 100 days time.

Australia were excellent and exploited England's weaknesses perfectly.

Have a read of Emma Sanders' report from the Brentford Community Stadium here.

It was a cold and windy one in Brentford where the rain poured all night so I'm pretty sure Emma will be off to thaw out now.

England manager Sarina Wiegman speaking to ITV4: "I think most of all they [Australia] were very efficient. We gave them chances. Most of all in possession we were too slow. They waited for us. You need dynamic movement to stretch them, we didn't do that well enough."

On why England played poorly tonight: "I don't have the reason, we spoke at half time that we need to be quicker, have energy, stretch them and run behind. At other times we lost the ball a little quick. The reasons for that, I have to think about a little longer."

On the two goals: "Of course the first one, the circumstances were hard, it was slippy and a hard ball. You don't want these mistakes a lot but they happen. The second one was a great counter, they were a bit lucky too."

On Lauren Hemp's injury: "I don't know yet. I don't think it's too bad, but we didn't want her to stay on the pitch."

On the World Cup: "This is the first time we lose, but we always learn. We see things done well and things we have to do better. We have to improve to be at our best at the World Cup. Every game is for learning, and this is a big one."

Teams have a blueprint as to how to play against us now, how to stop us.

But I think to be honest the only way we're going to be beaten is to beat ourselves.

We have to be better, tactically we have to be better and I'm sure Sarina Wiegman will be looking at that.

We have a lot of credit in the bank and I'm not overly concerned but we don't want that to happen in the World Cup.

We have to move the ball quicker, be less complacent. You don't get many chances in a World Cup so we have to be careful of that.

England boss Sarina Wiegman looks pretty disappointed in her interview on ITV. She is used to winning with this team.

She says her side "must improve" on this to perform well at the World Cup.

It is a big statement from Australia to beat the European champions on their own patch, and they have done it when they are missing five key starters from their team.

Mackenzie Arnold was fantastic. England played into her strengths, and she made sure to claim everything [in the box].

    Ian Wright
    Former England striker on ITV4

We are missing Millie Bright's dominance at the back, without a shadow of a doubt.

We came up against a team that we couldn't find solutions to. We didn't change anything on the pitch, we lacked aggression and confidence.

Australia have to take a lot of credit for coming and making it very difficult. We couldn't break them down. It was two good games we learnt a lot from. A big lesson tonight.

I don't think this derails England I think it strengthens them.

They know you can not go into a World Cup cruising. Argentina men's team went into the World Cup unbeaten, lost the first game and ended up picking up the World Cup so England women are not the first team to face this.

It should strengthen them it should make them feel a bit human and humble them a bit.

It's healthy because they will look at this tactically now.

Leah Williamson and Esme Morgan were tested by the best striker in the world in Sam Kerr tonight but they will learn and grow from it.

What England will have now, as European champions and going into the World Cup as one of the favourites, is that everyone is going to want to beat you.

Everyone will have a cup final when they play you. They will raise their game.

England have to now find out what is their plan B, or plan C when it's not working for them.

England's first loss in almost two years. Is this a bit of a wake up call for the Lionesses? It has been smooth sailing until now but with the World Cup on the horizon England will be looking at this as a big learning opportunity.

England captain Leah Williamson speaking to ITV4: "We looked like we lacked ideas on the ball, and we got punished. It was my mistake for first goal, and they were ruthless on counter.

"Sometimes in football you have those games. We weren't as efficient as we usually are, we need to figure out why.

"I'm not one for dwelling on personal things, that first goal has made it worse for me but the whole teams feels really rubbish about losing. It hurts.

On Sam Kerr: "I thought we nullified her threat pretty well, but then we gifted that goal. When you play top teams you expect to play the best players and on top form they punish you."

On whether this is a setback ahead of the World Cup: "Absolutely not a setback. You have to take blessings in disguise, it's maybe not the worst thing that could happen to us. For us to lose tonight gives us a bit of fire."

Gilly is right there, if you're going to lose now is the time to do it and not in the knockout phases of the World Cup. England could meet Australia again should the Lionesses qualify top of their group and the Matildas finish second in theirs, and visa versa.

It has been a couple of tough games for England with this one and the Brazil game.

Certainly not the England team we have become accustomed to seeing under Sarina Wiegman.

In the second half against Brazil, we saw worrying signs for England.

When a team does tactically match you up, how do you break that down? 100 days to that first important game. You now have to watch it [Australia game] back and see where you went wrong.

But if you are to lose a game, I do think this is the perfect time to lose it.

Team are going to show you that respect now. They are going to sit in blocks and are going to make it hard to play.

England now need to find that next level, to know how to break down teams when they use this approach.
