Players from England and Australia will wear shirts without their names on the back tonight to raise awareness for dementia.

One in three people in the UK will develop the memory loss disease.

The nameless shirts will be switched at half-time to highlight the confusion suffered by those with dementia.

Earlier tonight a mural was unveiled outside Brentford's stadium displaying recent moments in the Lionesses' success. Fans are being encouraged to add their own memories.

England will also wear purple wristbands again to display their support for gender equality, while captain Leah Williamson will continue to wear the OneLove armband.

Australia head coach Tony Gustavsson says that England are currently the "team to beat" in world football.

On facing England: "They are the number one team in form. A 30-game unbeaten streak. You look at the football that they play as well, modern football, high intensity, extremely high tempo in everything they do. Their pressing game is fantastic. Their ball movement is brilliant.

"This 30-game unbeaten streak has not only come against low-ranked opposition. They have played against top teams; the number one ranked team in the world, the US. They have played the second ranked team in the world, they have played the third ranked team in the world. And still they have these performances and results.

"It's going to be one of the toughest challenges that we have faced as a team."

Matildas midfielder Tameka Yallop says the side are "excited" for the challenge of facing Sarina Wiegman's rampant Lionesses side.

"In the past we have shown that, when we are the underdogs, we do step up and we can perform. And that's what we are looking to do against England," said Yallop.

"It's a challenge, but it is a challenge that we are all excited for."

Australia are missing key players, so I don't think they will come away too disheartened if they lose tonight.

For England, they had a difficult second half against Brazil a few days ago, so for them, they will want to get another win tonight and a good performance.

  5. 'Top club experience shows Australia's capabilities'published at 19:40 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

Midfielder Tameka Yallop says that Australian players' experience of playing in top leagues around the world shows the side's "capabilities" to put in a strong performance against the best teams in the world.

"It shows that we have players in the best leagues around the world, and we are matching up with players from the Lionesses week in, and week out.

"If you follow along with the football, you'll see Aussies on the scoresheet or Aussies keeping clean sheets or saving penalties. So I think that shows where we are as a team, what our capabilities are when we go out on the field, and what we can do when we come up against a good team like the Lionesses."

While the Matildas have not played England since 2018, the side's win over Team GB at the quarter-final stage of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, has potentially given them an insight into how to go about beating England on Tuesday.

Head coach Tony Gustavsson said, "Even if we haven't played against the Lionesses, we have played against some of these players. The majority of those who we expect in the [England] starting lineup played against us at the Olympics [quarter-final at Tokyo 2020].

We have looked back at some sequences from that game, to see what we did well in order for us to put in such an impressive performance and win that game."

    Scotland 0-1 Australia

Scotland beat Australia on Friday in one of their best results under manager Pedro Martinez Losa at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Australia's talismanic striker Sam Kerr did not feature but it was a difficult night for the World Cup hosts.

Will they bounce back this evening against another of the home nations?

Australian pair Hayley Raso and Mary Fowler have warned their English team-mates at Manchester City that they might get a shock with the weather when they head to the World Cup in July.

Fowler and Raso are getting ready to line up for the Matildas against Sarina Wiegman's European champions in a friendly at Brentford on Tuesday.

And they have both been fielding plenty of questions from City's England contingent, with Australia and New Zealand hosting the World Cup later this year.

"A lot of the girls have been asking what's it's like. They have been asking about the weather and what the flight will be like," Raso - who has spent three years in England, having previously played at Everton - told BBC Sport.

Fowler added: "It's funny because they all think Australia is going to be nice and sunny in the summer but it's winter over there and it is freezing in New Zealand. It will be a bit of a shock."

  11. England omission 'mentally tough'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

    England v Australia (19:45 BST)

Former England captain Steph Houghton said dealing with omission from the England squad has been "mentally tough".

The fit-again defender is targeting an England return for the World Cup.

"I'm back to where I want to be and I'm pushing for England," Houghton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"But it's been difficult. It is frustrating from a personal view, and that won't stop me wanting the girls to do well, but I still want to keep knocking on the door.

  12. Houghton's World Cup chances 'not that high'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

    England v Australia (19:45 BST)

There was a blow for Steph Houghton this week as England coach Sarina Wiegman said the defender's chances of making the World Cup are "not that high".

The Manchester City captain has not played for England since 2021 after suffering with injury problems which kept her out of the 2022 Euros winning squad.

The defender is yet to play under Wiegman and was replaced as captain by Arsenal's Leah Williamson last summer.

Wiegman did say she would "never close the door" on selection but added that at the moment she is making "other choices".

  13. 650,000 World Cup tickets sold 100 days outpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

Organisers of the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup, which starts in 100 days, say they are on course to sell a record 1.5 million tickets.

Around 650,000 have been sold for the event in Australia and New Zealand.

"Fifa's mission is to organise the biggest and best Women's World Cup in history this year," said Fifa secretary general Fatma Samoura.

The World Cup starts on 20 July with the final on 20 August.

  14. Wiegman hoping for another 'challenge'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

    England v Australia (19:45 BST)

Manager Sarina Wiegman hopes England will be "challenged again" in this evening's friendly match against World Cup hosts Australia in Brentford.

"This is another big game. Australia are a big team," said Wiegman.

"They are 10th in the world so I hope we will be challenged again. We don't have many games to go [until the World Cup in July]."

Australia, who suffered a shock 1-0 defeat by Scotland on Friday, are expected to name a strong side, with Chelsea striker Sam Kerr set to return to the starting XI.

"Australia have had some very good results. The game against Scotland doesn't really represent what they have done over the last few months," said Wiegman.

"They are very physical and very direct. It is a little different to what Brazil did but still very challenging."

  15. Kelly, James or Hemp?published at 19:24 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

All eyes are on those attacking positions and who will start for England at the World Cup.

The auditions are running out and it's Lauren Hemp, Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly who have been given the nod today with Lauren James and Rachel Daly on the bench.

I spoke to fans outside the stadium before kick-off for their views.

Jessica, who plays for a local team in Bournemouth and is a Chelsea fan, said James "has to start" at the World Cup.

"Her footwork is incredible. It's really tough between the others but I would say Lauren Hemp over Chloe Kelly," she added.

I also spoke to a mother and daughter who had split opinions.

Daughter Chloe hopes it will be James and Hemp. Mother Sheila wants to see Kelly start and also Daly as the number nine.

  16. Home nations in actionpublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

Elsewhere this evening Wales are taking on Portugal in a friendly. That was an early kick-off and they are currently level with a goal apiece after Telma Encarncao opened the scoring before Rachel Rowe cancelled out. There's around five minutes left in that match for one of them to find a winner and you can watch and follow all the action here.

Scotland will also face Costa Rica in their friendly and that one gets underway in here at 19:35 BST.

Australia head coach Tony Gustavsson says that England could produce up to three starting 11s that would compete with any top side in the world.

"Any national team wants to have depth. There are many players available and competition is extreme. I guess Sarina [Wiegman] at times, like myself, has to make a lot of tough decisions.

"If you put up three [England] lineups, A, B and C, I suspect even the second and third lineups could compete with the best teams in the world. That is the depth that they have right now.

"They also have a squad of 25 players all playing in top clubs, in top leagues. You have 22 of them playing in the same country, in England, and a lot of them play in the same club. They also start and play week in and week out, so they are match fit."

If we want to win the World Cup, we have to come through big tests. And I think it was a really good test the other night against Brazil.

Second half, England admittedly could have played better. Brazil went to a front two and put them under [a lot of] pressure.

But we got through the psychological test of penalties, which is very important.

  20. Wiegman pleased with England's 'resilience'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

    England v Australia (19:45 BST)

Conceding a late equaliser and having to deal with the pressures of a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium - this was the test England needed and they passed it.

At times under Sarina Wiegman the Lionesses have appeared invincible. Winning silverware has become a habit and the feeling of defeat is long gone from memory.

But with four months to go until the World Cup kicks off in Australia and New Zealand, they needed a serious challenge to avoid going into that tournament underprepared.

A young but talented Brazilian side gave England exactly that in the first Women's Finalissima on Thursday night - and once again Wiegman's players delivered on the big stage, winning a penalty shootout after conceding a 93rd-minute equaliser in normal time.
