It’s been a terrific run for Liverpool. You feel it’s a little bit late for the Champions League push but they have to keep going, keep performing to stay on the coattails of Newcastle and Manchester United and hope they slip up.

Brentford have had a very good season regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season. It will be a real bonus to come here to Anfield and take the points.

Ivan Toney jumps up with Ibrahima Konate for a long ball. Bryan Mbeumo tries to get on the end of it but Trent Alexander-Arnold mops up.

Toney lands a little awkwardly and limps away slightly.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought our performance throughout was very satisfying. I thought we controlled the game for large periods. They defended their box well. I think on another day we would have come away with something.

"This is Tottenham, it's a team that put together by hundreds of millions of pounds and the England captain single-handedly won the match today. We're not playing West Ham, Leeds or any of the other sides we beat. In normal circumstances I'd expect Tottenham to win this game comfortably, but that hasn't happened."

On Harry Kane and his achievement, becoming the outright second-highest Premier League scorer: "He always scored in my four years previously at Palace. A real talent of a goal from a transitional situation. The way he got the ball and volleyed it into that space. We know how good he is in the air and he showed it again. His moment of brilliance won the game.

"He's a fine player. What he has done for this club has been enormous. Since he made his debut for England when we rwere with the England team he has gone from strength to strength. He is still a young man and I'm pretty certain Alan [Shearer] needs to be concerned because Harry will be breathing down his neck."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham interim boss Ryan Mason to BBC Match of the Day: “I thought we carried the game to the opposition. Kane scoring, Sonny had a good moment too so overall we deserved it.

“It was tough and gritty at times. Palace are in a good moment and made it difficult but we are very happy with the three points and a clean sheet.

“We just wanted to try and keep them a bit further up the pitch. We know they have individual brilliance so we did not want them on the edge of our box.

“It is not easy to keep clean sheets in this league so after the week we had it is a positive. I’m happy with the squad as everyone has worked hard this week and without being together we don’t win. So a good day."

On Harry Kane moving up to second on the Premier League all-time scorers list: “Harry is just Harry. It is a clinical finish. His overall play was outstanding,. He’s a team player but all his individual accolades are well deserved.”

Here come the teams. Liverpool led by Virgil van Dijk, Brentford led by Ivan Toney. Could be a nice battle between those two tonight.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I was very happy in the first half, not with the result but with how we played. We had control of the ball and stopped their high press. We had chances but we didn’t score and we spoke about keeping the same idea in the second half.

"They [Wolves] had chances in the second half and we had one very good chance but the key was to score and to try to take the game but we are still keeping chances. We are three points behind Tottenham but we play them at home next week and, in front of our supporters, we will try again and keep the European chance still open.

"We were playing at a high level and winning a lot of points but the last three matches away we played a bit worse. Today, we deserved more. That is the team I want to see in the first half.

"The result is disappointing but, overall, we have to be excited and the position we are in, we could not have dreamed of three months ago. We have to play three matches but the next match against Tottenham is our final."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a really tough game off the back of the week we had so to get the three points and clean sheet is pleasing. We changed the system without the ball and it worked. We caused them a few problems with the ball as we. We can be proud of the result.

"It was Ryan's first full week to work and train. We changed to 4-4-2 without the ball to get the extra man and then with the ball it was similar to our normal formation."

On moving up to second on the Premier League all-time scoring list: "It's nice to get on the scoresheet and when you win it feels that bit sweeter. I want to keep scoring goals so to pass someone like Wayne Rooney, one of the best players in this country, is a special feeling."

Jurgen Klopp reiterated his praise for James Milner amid speculation the midfielder will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Brighton.

Milner has won seven trophies in eight years with Liverpool and has made 328 appearances for the Reds.

"He knows how highly I value him. He is an incredible part of this team and I would love to work together with him even longer," said Klopp.

"What exactly the outcome will be of his decisions, I'm not sure if it happened already. Nothing else to say from me. Nothing will change.

"I said a couple of times nothing positive that happened in the last seven and a half years would have happened without James Milner."

Chelsea

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm happy. We came in off the back of a tough run, it's been a tough year and there is a lot work to do.

"But the performance and the result in isolation are really good, we deserved to win the game. It's a nice step forward for the lads. To work hard and come to a place that has been very hard for a lot of teams this year... I'm very happy."

On changes to the team: "In the modern game, those changes are huge. It's important with the squad that we have that people feel like they can come in and affect the game. We've worked towards that and I think every one of them did.

"Joao Felix gets his goal. All involved in the goals and active in the game. That's the competition you need if you want to compete at the level we want to get to."

On N'Golo Kante's more advanced role: "It's worked for us a few times. He was fantastic in that area against Real Madrid.

"A lot of people consider him a defensive midfielder because he's so good at defensive actions. But a lot of his stuff is really front foot and we can be really good higher up the pitch with his actual end product.

"He drives into the box, he's great. He's played a few games on the bounce now so we had to take him off for legs but if he's fit and playing well, you'd have him for every minute of every game."

On Bournemouth's penalty shout: "On first viewing I thought it wasn't. But if you say it wasn't and VAR says it wasn't, that's good enough for me. Maybe in the period of time since I've been here, we've deserved that twist of luck - if it was a twist of luck."

On confidence: "I don't know why the players can't grasp it, there are a few younger players we've brought in and it doesn't matter if you've won a World Cup, you're moving to the Premier League. There are a few players finding their feet.

"Typically at Chelsea, one or two have fed into the group and now we have more. It's understandable that as a group finding rhythm and confidence can be difficult. This is a first step, it won't be plane sailing but there is talent there and the players need to come together to get us to where we want to be."

Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a massive challenge. It's one of the most difficult away grounds to come to in the world. We embrace the challenge, we're looking forward to it, we can't wait.

"We know we can make it difficult for Liverpool, we know we have a chance. But we're also very aware that these guys [Liverpool] will come flying out at Anfield, there will be a fantastic atmosphere behind them and it will be very, very difficult. But we look forward to it."

Leeds United

More from Leeds boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is the old story of taking one game at a time. We have to get better between now and next week. We have to improve our performance by 5%. It would be too much to ask more than that in such a short space of time. We can iron out a bit more in terms of the playing side and our possession. That is what let us down in the first half. It was too rush and not accurate enough. They weren't hitting the right spaces. When we did that a bit better in the second half we got more attacking options and it gave the defenders some respite."

Liverpool's only defeat in 10 home matches against Brentford in all competitions was a 4-3 loss in the top flight in November 1937.

The Bees beat the Reds 3-1 at home in January so are vying to complete their first league double over the Reds.

Brentford are aiming to become only the fourth team to win a Premier League away game against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in a single campaign after Blackburn Rovers in 1993-94, Arsenal in 2003-04 and Manchester United in 2012-13.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to Sky Sports: "If I can take off the result, I can be happy. We played differently today than we did at Brentford and Man Utd. We controlled the game better but in the first half I told them I want to watch my team playing like that.

"The second half was a little bit different because the match was slower. We had three chances to score in the first half and two in the second. Maybe the fair result was a draw.

"They [Wolves] have to play to get off the bottom and they have a game plan at home. They scored quickly but we played the match by trying to keep calm and trying to make our passes to the box.

"Overall, we are still making chances but we are disappointed. We appreciate the supporters and next week we will try to get to our target."

Leeds United

Leeds boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In difficult circumstances but accepting the job, you have to do the best you can. It is about being on the training ground for the last week and feeling the adrenaline rush of that and a squad of players we have to make better and as good as we can with four games left.

"It is a difficult challenge but one we have jumped at - me, Karl [Robinson] and Robbie [Keane]. We have to try to get to the position where we can try and win a football match. We take some hope out of today on the second-half performance. Not the first, but the second.

"We now need to build on that and try to get a result. I was slightly fearful, but we sorted it out for the second half and told them they were playing with too much fear. They needed to get on the front foot and try to challenge them. Apart from a silly penalty... and a great save by Joel [Robles] that gave us a chance to go up the other end and score. When you see Man City running down the clock for four minutes at the end, you know you have given yourself a chance. We did right until the end, but it didn't quite happen.

"Without a huge amount of knowledge, barring that from the staff that was already here, we knew we would have to make five subs today. It was disappointing that one of our subs [Pascal Struijk] gave the penalty away.

"The rest came on and kept us going. We were putting fresh legs on and adding energy which helped us create a good goal. Karl was saying, when we were making the last two, there was still 15 minutes to go. But I told him we'd take the risk. It was worth it. We came close, but not close enough."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "Brentford are a tough, tough cookie. They're really smart. Extra bonuses for the staff for set-pieces, they're so very creative and super dangerous."

On Liverpool's five-match winning run: "Coaching all of a sudden is a joy again. We had nothing to lose a few weeks ago and started something new. Since then it is going well. We are not there - not even close. We know that. We have to learn a lot and improve a lot, and we have to keep going."

Thomas Frank says Brentford need to produce a "top performance" if they are to beat Liverpool.

They are looking to extend a three-game unbeaten run.

"We have confidence and we have belief," said Frank.

"But we also know that Liverpool is a team that against Tottenham is 3-0 up after 13 minutes, against Man United, in such a big game, big rivalry, with everything at stake, they won 7-0.

"We need to be absolutely on it. We need a top performance from us to go there and win."

It was confirmed Liverpool will play the national anthem before the game, despite saying they know some fans "have strong views on it".

The national anthem is being played at matches to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

John Gibbons from Liverpool fan podcast The Anfield Wrap says the club's fans "don't appreciate these celebrations being forced on us".

He added: "Different people will have different views but, generally, Liverpool is out of step with the rest of the country in that we'd prefer to be a republic.

"It's galling when the country is going through what it is. There will be foodbanks outside the ground when millions are being spent on the coronation in London.

"There are people in this city who can't afford to eat when millions are being spent on putting a crown on someone's head, it's a preposterous situation.

"I don't think the club should have done it. They should have stood strong but are kicking it on to the supporters.

"The fans will refuse to back down and it will mean them being criticised. People should think why are they being made to do something they don't want to do."
