This game seems over as a contest, but how many goals are Everton going to concede here? It could be crucial to the end of season outcome and Premier League survival.

Going into this game they were four goals ahead of Leeds, the next team behind them, [on goal difference] and three of those have already gone. They need to make sure they keep chipping away towards the end of this game.

Phil Foden flies down the left, no problems from that earlier injury, and crosses for Erling Haaland, who gets his angles wrong with his acrobatic volley and it doesn't even go out of play.

I'm surprised Haaland is still on the pitch with the Real Madrid game in mind.

No Rice, no West Ham. Thursday had better go well because we are still flirting with relegation. I'd love to win a trophy but not at the cost of being in the Championship.

    Brentford 2-0 West Ham

Here comes Bryan Mbeumo again as he drifts in from the right, cuts inside Angelo Ogbonna but then his shot strikes his team-mate Yoane Wissa.

Looks like David Moyes is going to turn to his bench soon.

    Everton 0-3 Man City

This is the second time Ilkay Gundogan has been involved in three goals in a Premier League match, also scoring twice and assisting once against West Brom in October 2016.

That was only his second free-kick goal in the Premier League, and first since May 2019 at Brighton.

People say De Bruyne is underrated but what about Gundogan? The man is top quality and City would be crazy to let him go on a free.

City have a free-kick on the opposite side of the box. Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez stand over it. This time it's Mahrez, and a cross, which James Garner puts behind for a corner.

    Brentford 2-0 West Ham

Kevin Schade plays a great ball from the left and Bryan Mbeumo looks certain to power home a header but Angelo Ogbonna throws himself in front of it.

    Crucial intervention.

Erling Haaland tries to find Ilkay Gundogan in the box but his pass is cut out. Surely some of these characters are going to be subbed off soon.

It's outstanding from Ilkay Gundogan again. He is a real player for this Manchester City team. He's grown in stature season on season and scored some crucial goals.

There's no Kevin de Bruyne in this team so he's got free-kick responsibilities and he doesn't disappoint. It's over the top of the wall and Jordan Pickford can't get anywhere near it.

It's not right in the top corner but it's certainly enough to be out of the reach of Jordan Pickford. Everton went without the modern-day draft excluder so the wall didn't jump, which gave Gundogan a bit more room to get the ball up and down over the top of the wall.

  16. CLOSE!published at 15:12 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

A let off for Tomas Soucek. He is sloppy with a pass on the edge of his own area but Yoane Wissa fires wide. Should have done better.

    Another peach of a goal.

Ilkay Gundogan stands over a free-kick. Everyone seems to be expecting him to curl it towards the far post but instead he chips it into the near top corner. Jordan Pickford can't get over in time.

The message from Pep Guardiola at half-time would have been 'well done, but keep your standards high. Let's go after that third goal in the first 15 minutes of the second half because then we can start to focus on Real Madrid'.

A lot of us were worried about a Brentford without Toney, but so far the lads are showing us that we'd be just fine!
