Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm pleased for the performance. It was a tough game and today was more difficult because on Monday we lost an incredible game.

"I'm really proud that my players showed our style and we showed character. Without this part of football, you can play well and score goals but without patience and mentality you won't reach your targets.

"We are working to become a big team. We are not a big team yet but if you want to compete with a big team like Arsenal and qualify for Europe, we have to progress our mentality.

"The players are the most important thing. I'm lucky to have players at this level. I'm working to give them my ideas and mentality but without good players you can't achieve these results.

"We will lose some players, maybe Caicedo or maybe Mac Allister. We need to bring in some other good players. For Mitoma and Estupinan, they need to stay with us I don't know if they are ready to play with big teams. You have to be ready in the head and we can offer them the chance to improve."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi speaking to Match of the Day: "We spent four or five days feeling terrible [after the Everton defeat]. Now I'm very happy because we showed the quality of play, the character, the patience. We are working on our mentality to adapt to play a lot of games in a few days.

"I think we deserved to win because we played with courage to win the game, not just to spend a day in London. Arsenal are still a big, big team but I think we deserved to win because we played better.

"It's not enough to qualify for the Europa League. We have four games [left to play] and they're all tough games. We have 58 points and that's not enough. We have to win other games and the first game will be in Newcastle [on Thursday]. We know it will be difficult but to qualify for Europe we have to push for another 15 days.

"I enjoy working with the players. I am very lucky to be their coach and I am very happy they enjoy working with me. It's a great satisfaction for me, but I would like to speak about everything at the end of the season because we are fighting for a historic target for us, for our club, for our fans, and we have to make our fans and our club happy."

But I do feel as though those situations do suit this Brighton group, as has proved today with this massive 3-0 victory which leapfrogs them over Spurs and Villa in the table - with another two games in hand on them - into sixth.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "A week ago I was standing here feeling proud and today we have to apologise for the performance in the second halt. It was not acceptable.

"Mathematically, it's still possible, but today it's impossible to think about it. We need to digest the result and the performance in the second half, understand why and have a different reaction.

"Brighton were really good when we became really poor. Before that it was the game we expected. The first half we knew that, the way they play, they make the game compeitive. It was difficult to get a long sequence of play. We conceded when they were direct in behind and the second one we gave away was a silly one. Then the team had no answers.

"We had to be more aggressive and take chances They used the space well and we got punished. I will always defend my players so the person responsible is me. After a defeat like this at home you have to make analysis of yourself first before looking at anybody else."

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira speaking on Sky Sports: "It's still a step forward from last season. If we spoke about Arsenal challenging City at the end of last season, not many would believe you but of course they will be disappointed because they were so close.

"Losing today is more than just a game. It's about how your rebuild to improve and be closer next season. They will have to take a step back to reflect on the season. They are missing a few pieces to be closer.

"The last few games they have been playing to win and when you play to win the pressure is different."

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville speaking on Sky Sports: "I think that's it [the title race] finished today.

"It was a difficult game for Manchester City on paper but they strolled and that has had an impact on those Arsenal players. It has been too much for them over the past few weeks.

"This moment was always going to come where Arsenal find it difficult and they haven't been able to get through it."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta talking to BBC Match of the Day: "We discussed that Brighton were difficult to chase against. The first half was very competitive. We should have capitalised better than we did. The second half was about keeping doing that and making a couple of adjustments but we conceded very early and after that it was the game they wanted. We tried to react but we gave a silly goal away and the team had no answers from 2-0.

"We knew the challenge we had today. It was very different to the one we had at Newcastle. I was stood here and very proud of what we did last week but today we have to apologise to our people. We have to move on very quickly and not keep that feeling for a long time.

"I have no idea [if Man City will lose it] but I have to think about what we can do better and what we can do to beat Nottingham Forest.

"It is difficult to see that picture [season to be proud of] today. When the team shows the face in the second half it shows we have things to adjust. Any time in this league can punish you and that would happen in the Champions League too."

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira speaking on Sky Sports: "You want leadership and he [Martin Odegaard] has been the technical leader on the field but they are missing a physical leader, a leader who can get at the back of players when they are not performing at the right level.

"They need a team that is more competitive. You look at the physical attributes of Manchester City and they are bigger and stronger than Arsenal. It's up to Mikel [Arteta] to address that in the summer."

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard talking to BBC Match of the Day: "Yeah it looks difficult now to be honest, we have to be realistic. I don't think City are going to do too many mistakes now.

"We just need to get back on the pitch and end the season in a good way. I think everyone deserves that, especially the fans.

"We did OK in the first half with the high press and could have been dangerous and scored some goals. The game changed a little bit in the second half, when they went direct it was a bit too easy for them to get through. I don't know why at the moment. I don't have any answers.

"We've done a lot of good things but at the moment it is just disappointing how we've ended. It is a good sign that we are disappointed. We just have to make sure we keep improving and getting better."

Brighton striker Danny Welbeck speaking to Match of the Day: "It was very important we responded after the last game. We stuck to our morals, played our football and got a great victory at the end of the day.

"It's not something that happens by luck. We work hard during the week and today it's paid off. We got the goals on top of the performance and it's a great day for the club. It puts us in a great position and we want to push on.

"It is a tough one [for Arsenal to take]. I have a great affiliation with the club, I loved my time here and everyone's always given me a good reception when I've come back. But it's football and you have to remain professional and we've done that today.

"The season's not over yet. We want to finish strongly, as best as we can. The manager never lets us think we've done enough. We've improved again this year and want to keep improving, keep pushing on."

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane speaking on Sky Sports: "Arsenal don't have the strength and depth of Manchester City. They have come up short. It's as simple as that.

"They need to get the right players with the right character so if they get in this position again, pole position, they will have a chance to see it through."

"It is not a good feeling at the moment. The way we played, particularly in the second half, I don't know what happened to be honest. It feels like there is no hope now.

"In the first half we did a lot of good things and had moments to create big chances but we gave them more and more momentum in the second half.

"We wanted to come here and continue like we have in the last two games, get a good result and keep pushing. It is a big disappointment.

"I don't think mentality was an issue. We were good going into the game but in the game was a different story and we have to accept it and learn from it."

Brighton striker Deniz Undav speaking to Sky Sports: "We showed a good reaction after defeat by Everton. It was a big three points and we're happy we got the win.

"The manager showed us a Michael Jordan video, to show us how he motivated himself for each game. He showed us after the defeat by Everton and I think it was the right choice to show us the video and we showed today how mentally strong we are."

Goalkeeper Jason Steele added: "Last week was a freak result. We're still learning and it showed us that we have to maintain our mental attitude week in, week out.

"After last week it was a case of resetting and making sure we were fully prepared for today. It was massive for us, We've now beaten Manchester United and Arsenal in the last three games, and if we can't grow from that and take confidence from that then we're doing something wrong."
