It is surely now time to give the credit to City they deserve. Reeled in and overtook supposes title certainties arsenal, likely to win the FA Cup and now blowing away the do called best European club side in history. Time to realise just what Pep and City have managed to achieve against all odds.

Anon @ 2033 I think is saying that tongue firmly in cheek. City are scintillating to watch and I'm not a fan.

No wonder Anon at 20:33 didn't put their name down, I wouldn't want to admit to thinking this was a boring City performance either!

  2. 'Composed finish from Silva'published at 20:40 British Summer Time 17 May 2023

Man City 2-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 3-1)

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Madrid are famous for the comebacks but Manchester City have been absolutely superb in this first half.

Ilkay Gundogan shoots, it takes a deflection and pops up for a composed finish from Bernardo Silva who just loops the ball over David Alaba.

Bernardo Silva just looks the ball into the corner and it's a cool finish. They thoroughly deserve the two-goal lead.

This really has been something special from City. And that goal was perfectly timed. Real were just starting to show signs of getting back into the tie and... bang!

    MASSIVE GOAL!

It's Bernardo Silva again, bang in the right spot to loop a header over David Alaba and into the net after Ilkay Gundogan had seen his shot saved.

City's grip on this game now reflects their dominance and it is thanks to their Portuguese midfielder.

What a moment for Kyle Walker, getting back against Vinicius.

There are not many players who can get back once Vinicius gets the other side of you. That's why he's in the team.

Ederson got a touch on that. It's an unbelievable strike from Toni Kroos. The referee didn't see the slight touch but he is congratulated by Ruben Dias.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 34 mins

Man City 1-0 Real Madrid (Agg: 2-1)

Oh, so, so close to 1-1!

After seeing their first corner half cleared, Real keep the attack alive and set up Toni Kroos to smash a shot from way out that dips and cracks the crossbar.

Clear signs of life from the side more than a few of you said wouldn't panic.

Real with another little sniff of a chance. Karim Benzema looks to latch on to an angled ball into the middle from Vinicius Junior, but Ederson gets there first.

Real finally get inti the City half in a meaningful way. They also get Vinicius Junior on the ball on the left to charge into space. But across comes Kyle Walker, matching him stride for stride before holding the forward off and stepping away with the ball. Cue huge cheers from the home fans.

Anyone writing Madrid off now has clearly not seen how this story usually ends...

Remember, Ancelotti has already said, " Let them score early." This is far too early to even think about winning.

Paul, not a fan of any team. Just enjoy a good game.

    Man City 1-0 Real Madrid

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

This has been some performance so far from Manchester City. The biggest surprise was it took them so long to score.

Lots of chat and quizzical glances from Real Madrid's players before the restart with Vinicius Junior deep in conversation with coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid look like they are going to be swept away but a word of caution - we have thought that before.

Remember when Arsenal came here not long ago for that game billed as the title decider? The match in which City utterly blew away a side that had been superb all season?

This has the same feel. Real are being made to look ordinary.

    It remains all City.

Ilkay Gundogan finds Erling Haaland, who takes one touch and then fires a rising shot just past the far top corner of the Real goal.

Well you can't say they haven't deserved it. They have blown Real Madrid away in the first half. Thibaut Courtois has been excellent.

De Bruyne slides a a lovely ball into Bernardo Silva who takes two brilliant touches and then composes himself, gives Courtois the eyes and whips it across him at the near post.

That is deserved, brilliant from Manchester City.

City finally make a chance count! Kevin de Bruyne's brilliant pass sends Bernardo Silva in on goal on the right side of the box. He gives Thibaut Courtois the eyes and fires his shot past him at his near side.

That's the breakthrough City needed. The Etihad is wild and Pep Guardiola is only adding to it with some mighty punches of the air.
