Here's a strange substitution, Antonio Rudiger replacing Luka Modric.

You felt maybe Madrid had to make changes but their go to playmaker should have been left on for that moment of brilliance or creativity.

He hasn't got on the ball much this evening but I don't think that's largely down to him.

This is interesting. Luka Modric is taken off by Carlo Ancelotti. On comes centre-back Antonio Rudiger.

Manchester City haven't really got going in this second half, they should be home and hosed.

The yellow cards continue to come. This is deserved. Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva sandwich Vinicus Junior on halfway. The former gets the card.

There's one way to prove that Pep is the greatest manager of all time, take the vacant Tottenham job and turn them into title contenders.

Pep Guardiola is blowing kisses at Jack Grealish for slowing the play down, keeping possession. Real Madrid were building up some momentum there.

To underline the threat, Real almost fashion something for Vinicius Junior but the ball is whipped off his toe on the edge of the box.

This after the ball had almost broken for Ilkay Gundogan in the box at the other end.

City are not quite as fully on the front foot as they were in the first half. It's understandable. They don't want to allow Real back into this and know the visitors have the players to hurt them. It's about game management.

Liverpool in 2019, Barca in 2017, Man United in 1999. All teams performed fantastic turnarounds when they were considered down and out. You cannot write off this Madrid team, they are too good. The Champions League is built for them.

Real manage a bit of possession in the City half but they can't make anything of it. Vinicius Junior's ball inside is easily cut out and Eder Militao lets City off with a foul.

@Toby 21:00. Not even close for me. Guardiola undoubtedly deserves credit for how he has taken good players and made them even better (eg Sterling) and they are easy in the eye, but think about the embarrassment of riches he's had at every single club, especially City. A lot of managers would've had a shot at the dominance he's had given the resources and players at their disposal, and he's not won the Champions League with them yet. Ferguson stands head and shoulders above anyone else by pretty much every metric, certainly in English football. Let's have the chat again in another 9 titles and 2 Champions Leagues' time.

That's about an hour and a half too late from the previous leg. Jack Grealish has got his number. That's a definite yellow card.

Kevin de Bruyne has a chance to fashion something from the free-kick, but he gets it wrong and Real are able to clear. Jack Grealish tries to keep the attack alive but the ball deflects off him for a goal kick.

I'd love to see what Guardiola could do with a club that didn't have unlimited funds. Like when you take Oldham Athletic to the Champions League Final on Football Manager. Then he'd be the undisputed greatest manager of all time. Go on Pep. You know you want to. It's only a bus ride away.

Another yellow, this time for Dani Carvajal, who drags down Jack Grealish. The City player is laughing. He knows he has Carvajal's number.

RE Toby at 21:00 - I agree. Some will say he hasn't done it over long enough with a single club, others will say he's inherited good teams and had lots of money.... It's one thing to have money, it's another thing to know where to spend it, how to implement those purchased players, get them playing to a high level for years on end, which Pep has done. He's fantastic.

You can tell that nobody in this ground is taking anything for granted.

There remains that nervous murmur whenever Real do manage to make ground or threaten. There is an acknowledgement this can turn in a heartbeat.

When you can buy any player you want and have deeper pockets than anyone else you can’t be considered the greatest manager of all time. Undoubtedly great … but not the greatest.

    Hally, via WhatsApp

Toby- 21:00 Pep is no doubt a great manager but cannot be compared to fergie imo. Pep works only where theres an ooen chequebook or an accomplished squad. Fergie did miracles St Mirren and Aberdeen with limited resources. Reckon Pep would be willing to do that? I think not.

    Save!

Ederson is drawn into action for the second time in the game and he does his job really well. It's a finely hit free-kick by David Alana that is dipping in before the City keeper intervenes with a fingertip save.
