Both teams wanted to play with and without the ball. Both showed aggression, outstanding goals, especially Enciso.

"It was a good game, congratulations to Brighton for officially being in the Europa League. They deserved it 100% for the way they play.

"Today they [Manchester City players] showed why they are the champions. Only 48 hours before they drank all the alcohol in Manchester. We come here and we were relaxed. We were humble and run a lot. That is why we are the champions for many years, these players showed something special."

On the disallowed goal for shirt pulling: "If it is a fault, there is 25 faults to every defender when they make a long ball. If it is a fault, every time it is fault. Come on. It is ridiculous. The goal disallowed is ridiculous but it doesn't matter."

On John Stones and Phil Foden going off: "John Stones was tired, he's not injured but a little risk. Foden had a knock in the first half. For caution we made the change."

On if he thought sixth would be possible when he arrived: "I didn't think about the target [when I first came here]. I wanted to work and to analyse the team and the players, to understand the new country and the new league. In February I started to think about the table, the final result and the goal.

"I am lucky because I found a group of players who are fantastic. I am normal, a good coach."

On Pep's compliment: "I became a coach for him because I loved his Barcelona. I studied him a lot. I don't want to copy no-one but I took [ideas] when I started to be a coach. Pep is number one."

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports: "Exceptional game. Congratulations to Brighton for their deserved qualification to the Europa League.

"The game we played, 48 hours after we drank all the alcohol in Manchester, 48 hours later we behaved and we showed why we were the champions against that team.

"We showed what we have done with and without the ball. I didn't see one drop in our intensity and idea. They had chances, we had chances, we scored a goal, they scored a goal.

"Both teams want the ball, both teams want to press. The keepers are fundamental in this game. The quality they have, they are an exceptional team."

On Haaland's disallowed goal: "Watch it. Watch it, if it's a fault, every action for Erling is a fault."

On his yellow card: "I was complaining about the goal being disallowed.

On whether the game was a good test: "It was absolutely, this time Brighton, they destroy the other opponents they have been playing. They did it in certain moments, especially the last 10 or 15 minutes, we struggled but we did really well.

"We cannot drop momentum. I didn't see it, against Chelsea I didn't see it today. During the week we have to rest, recover mentally. It's been demanding for the past six months playing Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and chasing Arsenal. The training now is just relaxed.

"Phil [Foden] and John [Stones] feel comfortable. We have to be careful."

"It was a big, big test for us.We have to maintain the level. We are thankful to win the Premier League with three games to go but it is not easy to keep the level. You need to rest but at the same time you have to keep the energy."
